Prologue

Title: Damn, is This Really That Scary?

Who the hell recommended this? I asked for a masterpiece recommendation, and now there’s this gigantic alien with huge eyes popping out, almost gave me a heart attack.

“This is supposed to be a masterpiece? Whoever said that, come out right now. I’ll gouge your eyes out the same way, seriously.”

“Isn’t he a famous guy? Why is someone who always does thrillers surprised by something like this?”

“To this guy, even ‘Digcraft’ is a thriller, lol. He’s the one who asked for recommendations and then whines about them, seriously.”

“Still, I heard he cleared ‘Inlast’ in one go without any walkthroughs.”

“If you turn on the mosaic setting, it’s not scary.”

– It’s just as difficult.

– But this guy’s physical skills are good.

– Yeah, you idiot.

It’s been about 12 years since I’ve been playing and mastering various games.

“It’s always tough, but…”

“Yeah, that guy’s physical abilities were good.”

“Idiot.”

Having survived by conquering numerous games for about 12 years.

Having already beaten all my games, I was anxious and didn’t know what to do. I decided to try out a game recommended in an online community.

The problem was that I was suddenly blinded by a grotesque creature that popped out unexpectedly.

If there were any censorship settings available, I actually enjoyed playing most horror games.

But what was I supposed to do when the characters looked so horrendous, and there were no censorship settings to adjust!?

It was ridiculous that this cursed game was one of the most highly recommended masterpieces on YouTube.

And what was with the DigCraft being a thriller?

Could it be that they thought I had been traumatized from seeing the scene where the Andyman by the river disappeared with its mouth wide open, and that’s why I bought the game but hadn’t played it?

Feeling awkward as unpleasant memories resurfaced, I posted on the community forum again.

“Title: Seriously, stop messing around and recommend some decent games

Urgent as hell”Comment Thread ㅡ

ㄴ”Trying to match your wretched tastes has worn me out, you damn bitch.”

ㄴ”If you’re that scared, try installing this. It’s not that bad.” (link)

While I was browsing through the comments, I noticed a strange link and clicked on it without thinking.

It turned out to be a mod that could be installed for the game I was playing. The moment I saw the name of the mod, I was dumbfounded.

“My goodness, a ‘super coward mode’? Are they making fun of people?”

Feeling annoyed by those who looked down on me, I muttered to myself as I scrolled down.

“No matter what, this is really an insult to my pride… hmm?”

The description was incredibly simple.

『Our ‘Super Coward Mode’ is designed for those of you who are so frightened that even the main game ‘Snow Castle’ seems too scary. We have adjusted the following for you!』

Not only that, but we eliminated everything in the game that could be considered disgusting or scary!

Even the weapons became silly!

‘Join the Super Coward Club, you lackey. If you like it, just shut up and press the recommend button!’

Having read through the description of the mode, I felt annoyed by the unnecessarily tough-sounding text, yet I couldn’t stop my hand from moving towards the download button.

“Damn it, this is like the mouth of the devil. It’s definitely unpleasant, but it inexplicably makes me want to try it.”

Apparently, all the weird creatures in this game would have their textures transformed into something trivial and cute.

Even some of the creatures were not just cute but had come out as rather pretty characters.

The creator of this mod clearly knew what otakus liked.

Just in case this mod might affect the story, I looked further into it and found that installing other similar mods did not significantly influence the storyline. So, there was no need to worry.

It’s considered a masterpiece, so shouldn’t I give it a try?

The only thing that bothered me was that the download count was zero, but I decided to ignore it.

Maybe the person who left the comment had just made it.

At worst, it would just infect my computer with a virus, right?

So, I clicked the download button.

The mod was virus-free and had no problems.

The only issue was that the computer monitor glowed and, after staring at the light, I lost consciousness.”
