How to Have a Baby Secretly - C4

“Well… you see…”

Sunwoo felt nervous for no reason, as Director Kang Jinwook was glaring at him with piercing eyes.

Due to his upset stomach, cold sweat began to form on his already damp forehead and neck.

“You see what?”

Director Kang Jinwook asked irritably, seemingly frustrated by Sunwoo’s stuttering. His voice was so cold that Sunwoo, already tense and wary of Director Kang Jinwook’s mood, gasped in surprise.

Unfortunately, the sudden intake of breath irritated his throat.

“Keck! Keck, keck! Cough, cough!”

Sunwoo burst into a fit of coughing. He couldn’t speak properly and kept coughing. It felt like something was stuck in his throat, and he couldn’t stop easily.

Director Kang Jinwook frowned, clearly displeased. He scanned Sunwoo’s face with sharp eyes.

Reddened eyes, glistening with moisture, wet lips parting with each cough. As Director Kang Jinwook’s gaze swept over Sunwoo’s face, his brow suddenly furrowed deeply.

Sunwoo, still coughing uncontrollably and unsure what to do, immediately noticed this change.

“Cough, I’m, cough cough, sorry.”

Sunwoo managed to get the words out while still holding his throat, which hadn’t calmed down yet. He continued to cough throughout.

Director Kang Jinwook wasn’t interested in Sunwoo’s apology. Rather, he seemed displeased by what he perceived as forced behavior.

“Don’t tell me what you said yesterday was true?”

Director Kang Jinwook asked gruffly.

“Pardon?”

Yesterday? What was said? What was true?

Sunwoo asked back, not understanding the question. Director Kang Jinwook frowned again at Sunwoo’s blank stare.

“What you told me before you collapsed.”

What could that be?

Unfortunately, Sunwoo had no idea what he had said to Director Kang Jinwook. That would have been something the original Secretary Choi said before the possession.

If I say I’m not that Secretary Choi, he’d think I’m out of my mind or up to something again.

Sunwoo opened his mouth hesitantly, looking perplexed.

“Uh, that’s not it, I was eating, and it didn’t sit well…”

But he couldn’t finish his sentence.

“You said you were sick because of me?”

Sunwoo closed his mouth mid-sentence. Director Kang Jinwook suddenly fell silent as well.

‘Huh? Sick because of Director Kang Jinwook?’

Sunwoo mulled over what Director Kang Jinwook had just said. Given the context, this must be what Secretary Choi had told him before fainting yesterday.

‘So Secretary Choi must have had some symptoms?’

Well, they did say it was about 6 weeks along. If so, there might have been early pregnancy symptoms. Dizziness, low fever, nausea. Or maybe weakness, constantly wanting to lie down.

‘Could he have known he was pregnant?’

No. If that were the case, he wouldn’t have said he was sick; he would have told Director Kang Jinwook about the pregnancy and demanded he take responsibility. Saying he was sick seems like he was trying to set something up.

The problem was that the current Sunwoo had no way of knowing what the pre-possession Secretary Choi was thinking when he said that.

Being possessed by an extra character who rarely appeared in the story meant he lacked information.

But there might be some clues. Sunwoo quickly tried to recall the contents of the novel.

However, even that didn’t last long.

“Secretary Choi, are you going to speak plainly or not?”

Director Kang Jinwook urged for an answer in a cold voice.

“Ah… I’m sorry.”

Sunwoo snapped back to reality and looked up.

“Well, my stomach was upset…”

Wait. No…?

Sunwoo stopped mid-sentence again. A thought had suddenly occurred to him.

‘Reason for resignation!’

Sunwoo had planned to say it was due to personal reasons if anyone asked why he was quitting. He couldn’t exactly say he was resigning because he was pregnant.

But thankfully, Director Kang Jinwook had provided an opening for a suitable resignation reason.

‘I can say it’s because my health has deteriorated!’

It fit well with having told Director Kang Jinwook he was sick. It seemed like a very good excuse.

“My condition hasn’t been great…”

Sunwoo mumbled, looking down at the floor with his head bowed. He had shown nausea and coughing, so Director Kang Jinwook shouldn’t be suspicious.

“What exactly isn’t well?”

“Pardon?”

“I’m asking what’s wrong and how bad it is.”

Why is he prying into this? It’s making it difficult to come up with a story.

Sunwoo glanced up at Director Kang Jinwook, who had a deeply furrowed brow as if angry.

Was he always this persistent?

Well, Director Kang Jinwook did have an obsessive tendency. He was known for digging into things relentlessly until he was satisfied once something caught his interest.

That’s probably why he drove people crazy by trying to know everything about the main love interest – what they ate, where they were, who they met – even before realizing his own feelings.

‘Ah! Could he be trying to catch me out? He’s suspicious if I’m really sick.’

This seemed more plausible.

“It’s nothing, Director Kang Jinwook. I’ll make sure to conduct myself properly so you don’t have to worry.”

Sunwoo shook his head as he answered. It wasn’t really an answer to Director Kang Jinwook’s question. But he was going to quit anyway, so what did it matter if Director Kang Jinwook was suspicious or not?

He just wanted to send Director Kang Jinwook away quickly. But contrary to Sunwoo’s wishes, Director Kang Jinwook looked even angrier.

“Secretary Choi, you…”

Ring ring ring. Ring ring ring.

A ringing sound interrupted just as Director Kang Jinwook was about to get angry again. Sunwoo looked down in the direction of the sound. It was coming from inside Director Kang Jinwook’s chest.

‘Why does the tyrant have such a ringtone?’

Sunwoo briefly wore an incredulous expression. Shouldn’t a tyrant have a more impressive ringtone?

Like classical music, or a soft melody, or even just vibration.

Ring ring ring. Ring ring ring.

What an old-fashioned sound for a tyrant.

“What is it.”

Director Kang Jinwook took out his phone from his chest and answered. Fortunately, unlike the old-fashioned ringtone, the phone itself looked like an expensive latest model.

For some reason, Sunwoo felt relieved about that.

“Now? Alright.”

Director Kang Jinwook glared at Sunwoo once more before turning around abruptly. His retreating figure, striding away, was strikingly handsome.

‘That’s a relief.’

Though he wasn’t sure what exactly was a relief.

Sunwoo, who had momentarily questioned the character’s identity due to the un-tyrant-like ringtone, let out a deep sigh and slumped down.

He stared blankly into space, leaning his back against the wall.

“That’s a relief. Seems he doesn’t know about the pregnancy.”

Although the doctor had agreed to cooperate, Sunwoo had still been worried deep down. He sighed in relief. Still, he felt he should call the doctor to confirm, just in case.

Sunwoo looked around. Just then, a passing employee glanced sideways at Sunwoo sitting against the wall next to the bathroom entrance.

It didn’t seem like he could make a call freely here. He needed to find a place without people. As he was thinking this and about to get up, a loud grumbling sound came from his stomach.

“Ah…”

Sunwoo looked down at his flat belly.

Earlier it had made him run to the bathroom feeling nauseous, and now it was demanding food.

‘You’ve got quite the nasty personality too, huh?’

Like father, like child.

Sunwoo rubbed his stomach, mentally criticizing the other biological guardian of the fetus. It seemed he needed to eat something after all.
