“Good afternoon! Welcome to Ortus!”
Some time has passed since then. I don’t remember exactly, but I think it’s been about 3 months?
I’ve finally returned to my usual daily life. I can now go about my daily life without any issues. The rehabilitation was tough! And not just the rehabilitation itself, but it took a lot of effort to overrule my overprotective guardians who kept trying to make me rest. I can do it on my own! I can’t count the number of times I had to say that…!
“Mornin’ Meg-chan. Are there any requests to the Elven Village that involve an overnight stay?”
“Good morning, Luck-san! I think there were! Maybe about two?”
“What kind of requests?”
“I think it was escorting tourists and exterminating monsters? Considering the type of requests you take, Luck-san, the monster one would be on the way!”
“You remember? That’s amazing, Meg-chan. Thanks! I’ll go check it out!”
And there you have it! Work is also back to normal. I think it’s going a lot smoother since I’ve been slurring less. But I don’t understand why some people are patting my head with disappointed or sad expressions. Living things are meant to grow. I wish they would accept that.
The plan for today is work in the morning, and training in the afternoon. Seeing and hearing everyone working hard makes me feel like I can’t lose to them. It really makes me realize how important it is to have people who can influence each other. For me, that would be Licht and Ronny.
Since Kei-san became Ronny’s mentor, on days when Kei-san doesn’t have work, Ronny apparently continues secret special training from morning to night. I don’t know the details, but it seems like he also goes with them on requests. During lunch and dinner, even Ronny comes back exhausted, so I’m almost scared to ask what kind of training he’s been doing. Let me say it again, even Ronny!
As for Licht and Father-sama, they send letters regularly. Why Father-sama, you may ask? Well, if Licht’s going to write, Father-sama also wants to! So he sends them together. Well, it’s fine, but you know? It means I have to write two replies, but it’s fun to write them so I don’t mind.
So what’s the issue? Father-sama’s letters are always voluminous, and they’re mostly just words praising me to death and saying how much he wants to see me! Of course, that’s not all. He tells me a lot about how Licht’s doing and what’s going on at Demon Castle. It’s always a struggle to find the parts with actual substance.
By the way, my replies always only address the parts I’ve picked out that have actual content. I’m worried Father-sama might turn into a stalker. Too late? I want to believe that’s not the case.
Anyway. It’s almost lunchtime! Everyone’s busy with work today, so I’ll have a solo lunch. They finally let me stay home alone! And it’s all thanks to my new bracelet.
Mikolasch-san and Maille-san collaborated and upgraded my bracelet! They added functions to the original one.
Of course, it’s a teleportation countermeasure function. There’s no magic that can prevent all magic, so if there’s a problem, it immediately notifies my guardians. They said they’d know where I am and come help me, no matter where in the world I am. Even on the human continent. Amazing.
“Even without that, for some reason, I can now immediately tell where Meg is and what state she’s in.”
That’s what Gil-san said. Apparently, this ability awakened due to the extreme situation. I’m the one who put him through that shock, but I don’t know if I should be happy about it or feel sorry.
“Good afternoon! Tio-nee!”
“Oh, good work, Meg-chan! Today’s lunch is chirashi-zushi!”
“Yay! It smells so good!”
When I arrive at the cafeteria and greet Tio-nee first thing, she tells me today’s menu while praising me. Since that incident, chirashi-zushi has become a regular menu item at Ortus.
“How’s the soup coming along? Think you can recreate it?”
While waiting for my lunch plate, I ask Tio-nee about this. The day after Ronny and I got back to Ortus, I gave Tio-nee the soup I got on the human continent. I gave it to her because I thought it tasted similar to Leo-jii’s soup, but… I was secretly worried that it might not taste similar to Tio-nee.
But as soon as Tio-nee took a sip, her eyes widened and she started bombarding me with questions. That surprised me!
“Hmm, I feel like I’m close to figuring it out. I wonder what’s different…”
Since then, Tio-nee’s been constantly researching it.
“I like Tio-nee’s soup too, you know?”
“Fufu, thank you. I do too! But if I can recreate Leo’s flavor, it’ll expand my cooking repertoire, don’t you think?”
Tio-nee said that with a grin, looking happy. Yeah, that’s right! That’s Tio-nee, never forgetting her desire to explore and improve.
“Then I’ll cheer you on!”
“Oh, that’s reassuring! I’ll let you know first when I figure it out.”
It’s a promise, and we hooked our pinkies and laughed together. I’m sure Tio-nee will be able to recreate it! I’ll look forward to that day. …To be honest, I can’t tell the difference in taste, but I’m not going to let that bother me!
“Alright, it’s ready. Make sure to eat well!”
“Okay! Thanks for the food!”
Tio-nee’s chirashi-zushi lunch plate was, needless to say, delicious!
With a full stomach, I immediately head to the training ground. I change into my battle attire for easy movement! I’ve given my spirits plenty of magic power, so I can train in magic too. But first, to restore my weakened stamina, I’ll exercise using the various equipment in the training ground!
When I say equipment, I don’t mean muscle training equipment like in a sports gym, but an obstacle course-like area where I can exercise. For muscle training, I’m still at the level where empty bottles are sufficient…
Or rather, I don’t think I can lift those heavy-looking things, and I’m still too short to use the abdominal or back extension machines. I probably won’t be able to train on that floor for another 100 years…
“Alright, let’s do this!”
“Oh, Meg! Do your best today too!”
When I arrive at the training ground and pump myself up, the guild members who were already training call out to me like that. Ehehe, let’s work hard together! Of course, as an unspoken rule, we don’t call out to each other any more than that. It’s so each of us can concentrate on our training.
Today, my special training coach is Dad. But he’s probably still working, so I’ll start with some warm-up exercises first. If I stretch and do a few laps on the obstacle course, he should come. Alright.
So I started with a thorough stretching session. When my body was nicely warmed up, it’s time for the obstacle course! This is actually quite fun.
As expected, after a while, Dad came, and from there, I got to learn efficient ways to move my body and use magic power, with practical training. As expected, Dad is good at teaching.
“It’s so different from the Megu times… It’s a good thing Meg has good motor skills, huh?”
If only he wouldn’t tease me like that! Sorry for being bad at sports in my previous life!
And so, by evening, I finish my special training, take a bath, have dinner, and go to bed. That’s been my daily routine lately. I have days where I work all day, and days off, but I’ve made it a point to never skip training, even if it’s just for a short time. Ehen~.
These fulfilling days. My current goal is to be able to take on simple requests someday. The quickest way to convince my overprotective family is to work hard like this. Today, too, I fell asleep with a pleasant sense of fatigue.
