Chapter 69: Arriving One After Another

The killing aura quickly enveloped the blade. As the chilling sword energy swept in, the blood-red Miao saber in Cheng Hai’s hands cleaved forward.

Boom!

A blade wind surged through the alley. The nearby sword energy dissipated silently like an illusion. The killing intent coalesced into a three-meter-high blood curtain extending towards the lead assassin.

The lead assassin lightly touched the ground with his toes and floated up to stand on the wall with a sword in his hand. His pale eyes showed no reaction to this impressive attack.

The two assassins at the front had no time to dodge and were instantly swallowed by the blood curtain. The remaining assassins dodged while throwing poison darts at Cheng Hai from their sleeves.

Cheng Hai swung his Miao saber in a circle, the lingering killing aura forming rings that blocked all the poison darts.

“Clank clank!”

The sound of heavy objects falling to the ground rang out as Cheng Hai quickly removed the weights from his wrists and ankles. He couldn’t maintain that domineering attack style for long and had to switch his fighting method.

Cheng Hai stepped forward, relying on a sudden burst of speed to cut down two assassins in succession.

“Attack!”

The remaining assassins exchanged glances and slithered towards Cheng Hai from all directions like ghosts.

Cheng Hai frowned. Was this some kind of formation?

In a daze, he seemed to see countless blades sweeping towards him.

Here it comes!

Relying entirely on his instinct for danger, he swung his blade upwards, cleaving an assassin’s head in two. Cheng Hai seized the moment to burst forth with true qi, the recently faded blood-red killing aura exploding out again. His Miao saber swept horizontally, raising a violent blade energy that tore terrifying gashes in the surrounding ground and walls.

Several assassins fell in pieces. The lone surviving assassin retreated several meters, raising his left fist to aim a delicate crossbow at Cheng Hai and fire.

“Swoosh!”

The Miao saber turned into a white light, piercing through the remaining assassin’s chest.

Cheng Hai tossed away the arrow in his hand and drew the saber at his waist, looking with battle intent at the lead assassin who remained alone on the wall.

The lead assassin seemed to sense something, glanced sideways, then turned and fled swiftly.

Before Cheng Hai could react, two assassin corpses with crushed skulls were thrown down from somewhere.

“Cheng Hai, no need to chase. The Martial Guard Division has arrived.”

“Your Highness?!” Cheng Hai turned his head to see Shen Yian had somehow already left the carriage and was standing beside him.

In the blink of an eye, the previously empty alley sides were suddenly filled with rows of figures.

“Your Highness the King of Chu was assassinated again?”

Bai Hu floated down from the wall with her hands behind her back.

“This is Tianwu City. What are you people in the Martial Guard Division doing? Assassins are running all over the streets! Is this how you protect Tianwu City?”

Seeing the newcomers, Shen Yian snorted coldly and changed his tone.

“We have failed in our duty by allowing the King of Chu to be disturbed today.”

“Please forgive us, King of Chu. Go back and rest early. We will surely come to apologize another day.” Bai Hu’s red lips parted slightly as she  replied lightly.

“Hmph, I will surely report this to my royal father another day!”

While saying this aloud, Shen Yian communicated mentally: One escaped, my people have gone to deal with it.

Bai Hu: Keep them alive. I’ll personally interrogate them for you.

Shen Yian: No need. I know who sent them. Besides, leave it to you to interrogate? What did you get out of those assassins last time?

Bai Hu: It’s complicated. The live one died in the prison that very night.

Shen Yian: Hehe, seems your internal affairs are quite messy. Can you, one of the Four Symbols, handle things?

Bai Hu: Hmph, hurry and leave, to avoid suspicion.

Shen Yian: Take care.

Bai Hu: Oh? Is the sun out late at night? The handsome boy actually cares about this old woman?

Shen Yian didn’t reply, silently responding with an international gesture.

Meanwhile, the lead assassin fled far and then turned towards the city wall.

Thud!

The assassin landed on the roof and paused, then quietly drew the sword in his hand.

In front of him, the Yin-Yang Fish appeared between Fu Sheng’s eyebrows, and his hands stretched out from his sleeves. Pale Qi condensed in his right hand, and black thunder crackled in his left hand.

The assassin took two steps back. His instinct told him that he couldn’t win and he had to run away!

In the back, Yin Hai was looking at the waning moon in the sky with his sword in one hand.

The assassin didn’t hesitate, turning to run, but found his movements suddenly very slow.

A glance to the side made his pupils contract sharply – that pale hand wreathed in black thunder was already before his face.

Crack!

King of Chu’s mansion.

In the study, Shen Yian helped Cheng Hai expel the remaining cold energy from his body.

“The Si family’s Cold Abyss Sword Technique. That woman is going all out.”

Shen Yian muttered, looking at the cold energy lingering in his palm.

“Your Highness, is the Si family a great clan?”

Cheng Hai worried tonight’s events might bring unnecessary trouble to Shen Yian.

“They’re not really a great clan, just a martial arts world force specializing in training assassins.”

Shen Yian wasn’t worried. Such assassin organizations would reassess the mission difficulty after failure, then increase the price. If both parties agree, the mission continues; if not, it ends.

Without the Zhao family of Suzhou as a big money source, he wondered how much wealth that woman had left to squander.

“Cheng Hai, you performed very well just now. I indeed didn’t misjudge you.”

“It’s late. Take some qi-replenishing pills and rest early.”

“Yes, Your Highness.” Cheng Hai silently vowed to become stronger and become a supreme saber master.

After Cheng Hai left, Yin Hai and the others returned to give a brief report.

After giving some more instructions, Shen Yian returned to his room to rest.

Lying in bed, he couldn’t sleep at all.

Tomorrow, or perhaps the day after, Ghost Face and the others would arrive in Tianwu City, and the matter of the evil nurturing jar could be prioritized and resolved.

As for why he wanted the business information of those few families, sometimes business wars weren’t as noble as they seemed. Everyone was just trying to steal from each other, sabotage each other, and stab each other in the back.

First, let’s slowly undermine your economy, and then we can talk about whose fist is bigger.

The next day, Shen Yian didn’t get up until the sun was high in the sky. The assassination attempt the previous night, although not targeted at him, had given him a valid reason to delay his trip to the academy and his court duties once again.

“Your Highness, Chou Niu has arrived!”
