135.1. Not Wanting To Become Someone Important Is Nice, Isn’t It?
“Guild Master!?”
I shouted, and Grimm Dondor dramatically wagged his finger with a “tsk tsk tsk.”
“Starting today, I’m the Guild Grandmaster!”
He gave a big thumbs-up, pointing at himself. Leafan jumped in surprise.
“What!? Leafan, what’s a Guild Grandmaster?”
“Uhm, it’s the leader who oversees all production guilds in the Kingdom of Maugaria.”
“Wow, that’s incredible!”
“Hey, don’t ignore me and keep talking to each other.”
Grimm, who was supposed to be the main character here, pouted.
“Congratulations! I never imagined you’d skip over being the capital’s Guild Master and become the Grandmaster!”
“Yeah, I didn’t see that coming either.”
As I recall, Grimm was the Guild Master of Gandarl, which means he was the top person in the production guilds of the Veil Road Margrave, Kyle’s father’s territory.
Since I’m not interested in promotions, I don’t really know much about higher positions.
“Hey, Leafan. What’s the hierarchy of the production guilds like?”
“Well, the production guilds are divided by region, each with a Guild Master. I’m one of them. Remember when we moved to the frontier village? The village was isolated, so we needed a Guild Master even though there was nothing there.”
As I nodded in understanding, Grandmaster Grimm frowned.
“Hey, what are you talking about? Leafan, you’re already a Guild Master with district authority.”
“”Huh!?””
Leafan and I shouted in perfect unison.
District authority means she has the same power as Grimm when he was the Guild Master of Gandarl.
“Uh, I never heard about that?”
“Oh, right! I forgot to tell you! Wahaha, my bad, my bad!”
A huge hammer slammed down right in front of the laughing Grimm. That beautifully adorned hammer was Leafan’s warhammer, the Battle Hammer.
“Guild. Grand. Master?”
Leafan looked at Grimm with a terrifyingly deep smile, and he immediately dropped to his knees.
“I’m sorry!”
“I always tell you to report important things! I look away for a second, and this happens again! I’ve been saying this forever, the Guild Master’s work is always sloppy…”
Without noticing her title had switched back from Grandmaster to Guild Master, Leafan began lecturing Grimm.
I guess their relationship has always been like this.
Since they’re about the same height while Grimm is kneeling, it looks like a child scolding their parent.
…Is that how I look from the side too? Yeah. I should be careful.
After a while, the lecture ended, and Grandmaster Grimm was finally allowed to stand.
Who’s the real grandmaster here, anyway?
“Anyway, from today, this place will be the headquarters of the production guilds in the Kingdom of Maugaria.”
“You’re making the headquarters somewhere other than the capital?”
“Yeah. It’s also the reason I jumped over the capital’s Guild Master to become Grandmaster. The Guild Master of the capital, Midlight, screwed up…”
“But isn’t Guild Master Midlight supposed to be really capable? He was the next in line to be Guild Grandmaster.”
Leafan tilted her head.
“Of course. But he didn’t believe in all the stuff you guys were doing. Since I knew you, I quickly got things like potion distribution and hardstone mass production organized, but the production guilds in the capital were slow to react. In the end, the Guild Grandmaster got blamed and resigned, and Guild Master Midlight, who was his lackey, lost his appointment too. That’s how the role landed on me.”
I don’t care much about politics.
I yawned.
“So, from now on, I’ll be working here. There’s no problem with the space, right?”
This production guild, where Leafan and I are, is blatantly favored by Kyle. We’ve been given a huge, impressive, and sturdy building in a prime location.
Even if we added hundreds more guild members, there wouldn’t be any problem.
“For now, let’s set up the headquarters on the upper floors. Leafan, pick out a room.”
“Got it. We have plenty of rooms, though. Actually, I’d love to fill them up with more staff.”
She murmured, sounding a bit down.
“Hey now, I already said I’d help you out from the start, right? Naturally, I’ve brought in talented people from guilds all over. They’re moving in now. You can start using them tomorrow.”
“Guild Grandmaster!”
Leafan was so overwhelmed with emotion that she suddenly hugged Grimm around the waist.
They looked like a parent and child.
“Wahaha! As always, Leafan’s chest hasn’t grown at all!”
Boom!
An empty barrel nearby exploded.
Where the barrel had been, a hammer had come crashing down.
Leafan looked up at Grandmaster Grimm, smiling silently.
Even my back, though uninvolved, broke out in a cold sweat.
“Did you. Say something?”
“N-nothing at all!”
Grandmaster Grimm grabbed some nearby documents and leaped over to the corner desk, hurriedly clearing the paperwork that only the Guild Master could sign.
After letting out a deep sigh, Leafan muttered to herself with an icy tone.
“There won’t be a next time, you know?”
Ah, I see. That’s how you escape her wrath.
I quickly ran off to my alchemy room, hoping to avoid an angry Leafan.
