Chapter 158 Table of contents

After filming Star Fisherman, Seoyeon stayed in contact with the two actors she had filmed the show with: Lee Sang-su and Song Kwang-min, two actors who represented Korea. Of course, it wasn’t to manage her connections; rather, it was because she had genuinely developed a passion for fishing.

So, occasionally, she tagged along with her manager to join them during their fishing trips. From their perspective, it seemed like the young actress was being diligent in managing her network early on. However, the general feeling was more about them enjoying the increase in fishing buddies.

Such outings weren’t unusual for them, and they seemed to welcome having a new fishing friend.

However, as Seoyeon’s schedule got busier recently, their contact had become less frequent.

“Are you asking if I’d consider being in a movie?”
“Yes, but I think it’d be best to discuss it in person.”

Since it wasn’t something she could explain over the phone, Seoyeon brought it up during a fishing trip. This time, Jiyeon had come along as well.

“Ju Seoyeon, this is my first time fishing.”
“I’ll teach you!”
“...”

At Seoyeon’s enthusiastic response, Lee Jiyeon simply nodded. It was easier to just go along with things quietly here. After all, trying to refuse would only lead to her being dragged into it anyway.

“By the way, Seoyeon, shouldn’t you tell Jo Seohui? You’ll also need to inform the director.”
“I already asked her.”
“Really?”
“Of course.”

Seoyeon wasn’t planning to go ahead with things recklessly. She wasn’t sure if actor Lee Sang-su would accept, and as an actress, she couldn’t just proceed with things on her own.
When Seoyeon mentioned it to Jo Seohui, her eyes widened in surprise.

“You’re in contact with actor Lee Sang-su?! Tell me! Is this about the vacant role in The Gyeongseong Lady? Ah, did Jiyeon tell you? Right, there’s an issue with that role. If actor Lee Sang-su could take it on, that would be amazing…”

Seoyeon had to stop Jo Seohui from trying to slyly get his contact information. It seemed that Lee Sang-su was one of the actors Jo Seohui greatly admired.

So, she said she’d talk to Director Baek Min about it and rushed off.

“She got back to me that evening, saying it was fine.”
“...Her decisiveness is impressive.”

Jiyeon clicked her tongue in amazement. Both Jo Seohui and Seoyeon had remarkable drive. Once they thought of something, they acted on it right away. They also seemed to take full advantage of their youth. Being young meant they could get away with a little bit of stubbornness, which came off as cute.

Of course, in this case, it wasn’t really stubbornness, but under normal circumstances, this kind of process would have taken much longer.

“So, when are we going fishing?”
“Maybe the week after next?”
“What if I have something scheduled?”
“I know you don’t.”

How do you know? Jiyeon was about to ask when she suddenly realized that Seoyeon knew the streaming schedule of ‘Ramiel.’ There was no way she’d be waiting for the stream to start unless she knew Jiyeon’s availability in advance.

Looking at Ramiel’s streaming schedule, one could roughly guess Jiyeon’s schedule. Ramiel usually streamed when Jiyeon didn’t have work.

‘...I knew it.’

Isn’t she a bit too into VTubers? It’s fine, but could she please stop sending superchats? Jiyeon found it exhausting to keep returning the money to Su-ah, Seoyeon’s mother, especially since there was a time when she had misunderstood Su-ah.

“Let’s practice fishing before we go. I’ll teach you.”
“I’ll practice on my own.”
“...Hmph.”

Seoyeon pouted, but Jiyeon ignored her. Learning fishing from Seoyeon would leave her exhausted.

The highly anticipated second episode of Ju Seoyeon’s segment on Golden Duckling!
Since the first episode caused such a stir, there was a big difference in the number of people waiting for the second episode.

The most tormented by this was none other than Young-bin.

‘Why did I suggest going to the pool?’

To make matters worse, he had to work late tonight.
He wouldn’t even get to go home; instead, he’d be watching Golden Duckling with his colleagues at work.
The worst part? The second episode featured the pool!

He was about to inadvertently expose his wife and daughter in their swimsuits to the entire nation.
Sure, they were just swimsuits, nothing too revealing… but still. Sigh.

“Oh, Team Leader Ju, lighten up! You should smile like you do on the show.”
“It’s just that everyone’s watching...”
“Lately, everyone’s been in such high spirits. Whether it’s the development team or the planning team, everyone smiles when they see you, Team Leader.”

Even the department head mentioned this to Young-bin as he walked by.
In the end, Young-bin couldn’t leave after work and was dragged to watch the show with his colleagues.

“Oh, come on, Team Leader. You’ve got to watch with us!”
“Right! Why didn’t you tell us you were going to be on TV?”
“I didn’t know myself.”
“Ah, come on, now you’re just playing dumb.”

Seriously, he hadn’t known. How was he supposed to know Su-ah had kept it a secret?

Since there was no ill intent, he couldn’t exactly get mad about it.
And even if he did want to get angry, it all melted away when he stood in front of his wife.

‘Well.’

Young-bin sat down in his seat. Looking around at the gathered employees in front of the TV, he realized this wasn’t so bad.
After all, his daughter was an actress, and this wasn’t much different from watching a movie together.

Plus, there was one benefit to having been on the show.
His superiors, who used to criticize him, now treated him with more respect.
Since he had been on TV and his daughter, Seoyeon, was a famous actress, they were worried he might mention it in the industry.
There were even rumors that he might be promoted to director for the company’s upcoming project.
His performance was solid, and his name recognition had skyrocketed recently.

More than anything...

‘I’m so envious.’
‘I’m jealous of his wife and daughters.’
‘If I had a wife like that, I’d be excited to come home from work.’
‘How does he have two such obedient daughters? I bet they give him allowance money too.’

“Ahem!”

Whenever employees gathered, such envious looks would naturally be directed at Young-bin.
Especially from his peers, whose eyes practically dripped with envy.
For Young-bin, who had recently gained a lot of attention, this was a refreshing change of pace.
Yes, if his face was going to be recognized, he should at least enjoy some perks.

“Oh, but Team Leader, isn’t today’s episode at the pool? Are you okay with that?”
“What?”
“Well, your wife and daughter will be in swimsuits, right?”
“It’s fine. Really.”

It was true.
They had just gone to the pool for fun and came back without anything out of the ordinary happening.
Plus, Su-ah had worn a parka over her swimsuit the whole time, so it was no big deal.

That’s what he thought, anyway, as he started watching the show.

The moment the episode began...

“Mom, why are you covering up?”

There was a shot of Seoyeon pulling down Su-ah’s parka in surprise.
Immediately after, Seoyeon zipped the parka back up as soon as she saw what was underneath.

While they didn’t show what was inside...

“We’d better cover this up. It’ll get cut from the broadcast.”

Su-ah froze in place, clutching her parka tightly after her daughter’s sudden assault.

“...”

Young-bin, too, was frozen.
Did this really happen?

His coworkers, who had been chuckling, slowly turned to gauge his reaction.
Nobody could figure out exactly what had just been cut from the episode.

The mention of the pool scene had viewers excited with anticipation.
After all, Su-ah had already made a strong impression with her figure.
And while Seoyeon was an actress, she had never worn anything too revealing on screen.

Naturally, this piqued people’s interest.

As the viewers eagerly waited, Seoyeon was feeling conflicted about this shoot.

She wasn’t exactly thrilled about wearing a revealing swimsuit on TV.
Sure, she had recently bought a cute swimsuit for summer.
But with her busy schedule, she hadn’t had a chance to wear it.

Since Seoyeon was someone who believed, “I’m beautiful, so I should wear beautiful things,”
she usually avoided clothes that didn’t highlight her appearance.
Why hide her looks when she was born pretty? That was Seoyeon’s mindset.

However, showing off that swimsuit on a broadcast was a bit...
So, she compromised.

“Mom, you brought a swimsuit, right?”
“Of course. I brought the one I always wear.”
“Oh, okay.”

Seoyeon didn’t think much of it. She trusted that her mom had made the right choice.

“Hey, hey, Seoyeon’s swimsuit is pink and frilly!”
“I’ll play with you in the pool, sis.”
“Really?”

Seeing how happy her younger sister was made Seoyeon smile.
They hadn’t gone swimming together much when she was going through puberty.
Back then, she had freaked out at the thought of exposing even a little skin.
Of course, a lot of that had to do with her mental state during that time.

“What about Dad?”
“Dad knows how to enjoy himself.”
“Haha, that’s right!”

It seemed like Young-bin was excited about the pool outing, as he laughed heartily.

Then...

“Who’s that guy standing next to us? He’s been filming something.”
“Oh, he’s from the ad team. They’re filming some vlog-style footage for the commercial. A few more people will show up at the pool later.”
“Oh, I know what a vlog is! I’m up to date! I even have Instagram!”
“You have Instagram?”
“...I get nothing but hate in the comments whenever I post, though.”

As a game developer, showing his face in public usually led to a barrage of harsh comments.
Still, the fact that Young-bin continued to post photos of himself made him a remarkable man in some ways.

Just then, he felt his phone vibrate.
It was a text from Su-ah.

[Your dad still doesn’t get it? It’s amazing that he believes this.]
[It’s funnier when he doesn’t know. But seriously, how does he not realize it?]
[But isn’t that what makes him so cute?]

As Seoyeon read Su-ah’s text, she sighed and shut her phone.

Once they arrived at the pool, the family changed into their swimsuits and gathered together.

“Why are you both wearing parkas??”

Sure, he could understand why Su-ah was wearing one, but hadn’t Seoyeon passed through her awkward teen phase already?

‘Well, I guess it doesn’t matter.’

“Let’s go, little dinosaur!”
“Yay!!”

With her arms raised, Suyeon chased after her dad with a big smile.
But didn’t she say she’d play with me?
Feeling a little left out, Seoyeon glanced at Su-ah.

She could understand why she had to be mindful of her image as an actress, but Su-ah didn’t have such concerns.

“Mom, why are you covering up?”

Thinking nothing of it, Seoyeon casually pulled down her mother’s parka.
And then...

“We should definitely cover this up. The broadcast might get canceled.”

It seemed like it might not pass the broadcast regulations.
Seoyeon thought seriously about that.

It turned out the swimsuit was a bit small.
As she had suspected, Su-ah’s chest had grown recently.

Combining that with the swimsuit led to quite the...

“...Mom, do I look fat?”
“No, that’s not it at all.”

Fat? Is that what she calls it?
Seoyeon found it hard to believe. Sure, big breasts didn’t always make for the best silhouette, but still.
However, Su-ah... well.

“It’s dangerous.”
“Huh?”
“I mean, really dangerous.”

Fortunately, most of Seoyeon’s comments were edited out.
It was funny, but due to the content’s nature, it got cut for being a bit too... risqué.

Naturally, viewers who couldn’t see the cut scenes reacted as follows:

Those were the typical reactions.
Even with the parka on, there was no hiding it.
It wasn’t a regular outfit, after all, but a thin swimming parka.

Despite not fully revealing her body, just seeing her silhouette was enough to stir up conversations.
Of course, this kind of talk was mostly found on unmoderated forums.
On more regulated fan cafés for Ju Seoyeon, the discussion was more like:

And so the pool scene began.
Just as Young-bin had said, nothing much happened.

At least, not in the parts Young-bin could see.

“Mom, your swimsuit top is coming off.”
“What?! No!!”
“Sis, bounce me on the water!”
“Okay, hold on.”

While Young-bin enjoyed his time alone, the other side of the pool was a chaotic mess.
There were a few moments that could have been broadcast accidents, but thankfully, no actual exposure occurred, so it all passed without incident.

“Okay, on the count of three, we’ll all jump into the pool together with Dad!”
“Yes!!”
“...Do I have to?”

Young-bin blinked, as if the answer was obvious.
With the cameras rolling, Seoyeon couldn’t say no, so she nodded reluctantly.

The truth was, Seoyeon had never really learned to swim.
But, as is often the case, people don’t go to swimming pools just to swim.
It’s more about enjoying the atmosphere.

“One, two, three!”

At Young-bin’s shout, they all splashed into the water!
At the same time, a large splash of water surged up from where Seoyeon had jumped in.

Most of the online communities didn’t take it too seriously.

“This pool is deeper than I thought.”

Suyeon, who had jumped in with a tube, popped her head out of the water, clinging to the float.
After helping her up, Young-bin looked around, but strangely, Seoyeon was nowhere to be seen.

“Wow, Seoyeon must have sunk because she’s too heavy.”
“Really?!”

Suyeon covered her mouth with both hands, her eyes wide with shock.

“Dad, Dad, I think Seoyeon is too heavy to float.”
“Yeah, even though she doesn’t look like it, your sister is actually pretty...”

Before he could finish, Young-bin disappeared.
Someone had grabbed his ankle and pulled him under.

“Huh?”

Suyeon, startled by her dad’s sudden disappearance, looked around in confusion. Where had he gone?

“...Suyeon.”
“Eek!”

Seoyeon, who had surfaced from the water, lifted Suyeon up with her tube.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t swim; she had just sunk a little deeper than expected.
She had even bumped her head on the bottom of the pool.
She had taken her time getting back up, worried she might have broken the pool floor.

...Sure, she was heavy, but she still floated.

‘Lesson learned: don’t jump into pools carelessly.’

Anyway, Seoyeon spent the rest of the pool time towing Suyeon around like a jet ski.
Meanwhile, she had casually tossed Young-bin off somewhere.

Other than that, it was a completely uneventful shoot.
Really.

But still...

- What's Ju Seoyeon's weight?
- Did Young-bin die?
- Good riddance, teenage.

A lot of posts appeared on the forums.
Most of them were slanderous rumours aimed at Seoyeon.
