In the world of the internet, countless memes are born and disappear just as quickly.
But amidst the many memes that fade away, there’s one game that steadfastly maintains its presence—a favorite pastime for the community fish.
[Who’s Better?]
It was a game called “Ranking.” The subject changed every time. Sometimes it was famous singers, other times it was skilled pro gamers, and occasionally even intangible things like movies or games became the focus.
And Cilia Online was no exception. Popularity meant more people playing the game, and that naturally led to a higher number of people joining in the fun.
[So, who’s the best fighter?]
Guess Yuki is the top pick, right?

It was common for people to debate who was the strongest player. And among those discussions, there were always some people who chimed in.
[I don’t know about the best fighter]
But isn’t Journey the strongest? If things look bad, she can just ask Kana to help her out, lol.

Journey wasn’t exactly someone who could be counted among the top ranks based on her specs or skill. Even Journey’s viewers, who were naturally more favorable towards her, knew and accepted that.
As such, it seemed like nothing worth discussing, but… People’s curiosity latched onto an odd topic.
[So just how strong is Kana?]
(A screenshot of a Dimensional Beast from Journey's stream.jpg)
This is the Dimensional Beast from Journey’s recent stream. It’s as big as a decent-sized house; You’re saying it’s just big but weak?
(A health bar showing the level and HP of the Dimensional Beast.jpg)
That beast was a whopping level 78; As you all know, most people struggle to go one-on-one with a monster of the same level. Naturally, fighting a monster higher than your level is even tougher. Even that mad dog Yuki has a hard time when he fights monsters above his level, And that’s only a small level difference.
Thinking about that gives you an idea of just how strong that beast must have been.
(Kana vs. Dimensional Beast fight.gif)
But Kana beat it without a scratch. She didn’t even look particularly tired afterward; Of course, level isn’t an absolute measure of strength since there are players who lose to NPCs and vice versa, but it’s still a good gauge.
In other words, the fact that Kana literally “wiped the floor” with a level 78 monster suggests that she is well above its level. Even if she’s not, she’s still strong enough to take down a level 78 monster. Back when people were raiding Kana, there wasn’t enough info to display her name or level, but things might be different now?
It’s guessed that she might be in the rank above Expert, maybe even a Master. Watching other Masters fight would give more clarity, but unfortunately, there’s not enough data for a definite answer.
The problem, even if Kana is a Master, is that the average age of achieving Master rank in the world of Cilia is in the sixties. You might think it’s a lack of talent, but if someone lacks talent, they can’t reach Master at all. Even the most talented NPCs, those hailed as geniuses, usually reach Master in their forties.
So if our small, precious Kana really is a Master, it could mean one of two things:
She’s an ultra-genius frail little girl who reached Master at a young age, or She’s an old master who achieved enlightenment after long years of training and regained her youth.

[Just switched to swordsman after watching Journey’s stream]

Honestly, how can anyone resist after seeing this? I used to think watching swordsmen fight was frustrating, but after seeing Kana wield a sword, I switched right away.

[Does it matter if she’s a Master or not?]
What matters is how cute Kana is. In that sense, go watch Journey’s stream where the adorable Kana is currently learning Arkish. She’s trying to speak it with a blank expression, and the gap is just too cute, haha.

Go watch it now!

“What’s this?”
“Apple.”
“Good job. So what’s this?”
“Carriage.”
“Aww, our Kana is so smart! What’s this, then?”
“Idiot.”
“…”
“Loser?”
“No, no! It’s either person or human! Or at least Journey!”
Journey, who had been pointing to herself, frowned at Kana’s answer.
After the fight with the Dimensional Beast, Journey hadn’t encountered a single monster.
It was as if they’d gone through everything in the past two days that could’ve happened throughout the entire escort quest.
But it wasn’t just the monsters that had changed.
“Um, it’s time to eat.”
Even the caravan folks started bringing food directly to her and Kana.
“Huh? This seems different from what the others are eating, doesn’t it?”
“Oh, no, no. We’ve served the same to everyone else.”
Their meal was more luxurious than what the merchants and mercenaries ate, and people sent respectful glances their way, occasionally coming over for a chat.
It made sense why they treated Kana that way. She was the one who killed the ogre and the Dimensional Beast without a scratch; of course, they’d want to get on her good side.
‘But why are they treating me like this too?’
As Journey pondered, she realized it wasn’t that strange.
It was Kana who handled the situation, and it was Journey who brought Kana to the caravan. Plus, she’d introduced Kana as her little sister. Even if people didn’t believe it, they must have thought there was some connection between them and decided they couldn’t afford to be rude.
‘But that’s not what really matters.’
Sure, the changed treatment and the gratitude from the villagers were nice. But Journey’s greatest gain was something else entirely.
‘Teach me Arkish.’
She couldn’t believe it when Kana made the request. Initially, Journey was stunned, unsure if it was a dream. But when she realized it was real, she was overjoyed.
While it might seem like a simple request to teach her a language, it wasn’t just that. It was a small step Kana had taken toward Journey.
Since then, whenever she had time, Journey would teach Arkish to Kana.
On their first day, Journey asked Kana,
‘Do you know any Arkish words?’
It was important to gauge the student’s level before teaching. Kana replied:
“Help. Monster. Bastard. Die. Hurt. Retreat. Brat. Aaargh…”
“W-wait!”
Journey quickly covered Kana’s mouth as she started listing off a series of grim words.
‘The last one isn’t even a word; it’s just a scream.’
Journey remembered that Kana used to be a knight who fought in wars. People naturally learn bad words quicker, and in battlefields, there aren’t many good words being thrown around. So it was no surprise Kana only knew words like that.
Journey decided to start from the basics, teaching Kana letters and simple words. Journey herself wasn’t that fluent in Arkish, relying on the game’s system for translation.
So to teach Kana, Journey had to study Arkish herself. Adding Arkish on top of Granik meant double the workload, but knowing Kana depended on her made it all worthwhile for Journey.
“Kana, you’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?”
“?”
“Don’t pretend you don’t know!”
“I don’t know Arkish.”
“...You think being cute is gonna let you get away with everything?”
If she thought that…
...She’d be right.
Journey clutched her chest, watching Kana blink with an innocent face and a stilted accent. It was obvious she knew what she was saying, but Journey felt her annoyance melt away at the sight of Kana’s cute expression.
“That’s a bad word, so don’t say it anymore, okay?”
“Idiot?”
“Yeah, that one.”
“Loser?”
“...That one too.”
“Ahem!”
As Journey continued their Arkish lesson, the driver up front cleared his throat, announcing his presence.
“What’s the matter?”
“We’ll be arriving at Riverie soon.”
“Wow, already?”
It marked the end of their long escort mission. Journey was excited at the thought of finally being able to rest after an exhausting journey.
She could put away her defensive mode and sleep comfortably in a real bed without the constant shaking of the wagon.
“That’s it for today’s lesson!”
Journey announced the end of the lesson enthusiastically. Kana shifted her gaze from Journey to the window, where the view of Riverie drew closer.
