Why Am I a Priestess When I Reach the Maximum Lev…
Vol. 2 Ch. 46 Table of contents

Grand, magnificent.

This was the first impression Violet got upon entering the Adventurers’ Guild.

It was really enormous here. Just in the main hall alone, Violet saw around a hundred counters operating simultaneously.

Despite that, there were still long queues in front of all the counters, and the young and beautiful receptionists were all busy and couldn’t catch a break.

Here, including adventurers, staff, and commissioning parties, there were probably at least a few thousand, maybe even close to ten thousand people in the same room.

Truly the headquarters of all adventurers in the world. Although it might sound a bit harsh to say so, compared to this place, the Adventurers’ Guild in Flame Dragon City seemed like a run-down thatched cottage.

Just as Violet and Xiao Guang entered the hall and had barely spent a few seconds looking around, trying to find a less crowded area, a waitress in a work uniform who had just come out of the staff area noticed them and quickly walked over.

“Good afternoon, you two. It looks like you’re here at the Adventurers’ Guild in Courage City for the first time. I’m the guild’s receptionist, Rebecca. Is there anything I can help you with?”

“Uh…?”

Violet was momentarily stunned by the other’s friendly attitude and smile, then barely managed to react, taking out her and Xiao Guang’s adventurer badges and handing them to the receptionist.

“Well, it’s not anything particularly big… just heard about the reputation here and thought since we rarely come to the capital, we might as well take a look. And, while we’re at it, see if there are any interesting commissions to take. By the way, how did you know it’s our first time here?”

Miss Rebecca’s surprised expression flashed across her face. It was unclear whether it was because she saw Violet’s ability to retrieve objects from a distance or because Violet seemed to have the appearance of a noble young lady but chose to become an adventurer.

Nevertheless, the receptionist adjusted the dark blue strands of hair falling by her temples and took the identification documents with both hands, scanning them briefly.

“Both of you are Mithril-ranked adventurers… In that case, let me first take you to verify the records, and then we can discuss things in detail. Oh, about how I knew it was your first time here, it’s quite simple, actually. It’s because I haven’t seen you before.”

“…?”

Several big question marks popped up on Violet’s forehead.

What did she mean by not having seen them before? Courage City has a population in the millions. Could this Rebecca really remember the appearance and corresponding names of every resident in the city? No matter how good her memory was, that seemed too far-fetched!

Seeming to sense Violet’s puzzled expression, the blue-haired and black-eyed waitress immediately explained.

“Haha, please don’t misunderstand. While I have a decent memory, I can’t possibly know every resident in the city. However, the ones who come in and out frequently, especially those I encounter in my daily reception work here, I tend to recognize. When I suddenly see unfamiliar faces, it’s only natural to make such a guess.”

Meow meow meow? Why could this person casually say such outrageous things!?

What did she mean by the ones who come in and out frequently… just from what Violet could see now, there were nearly ten thousand people. The constantly flowing personnel must number at least a hundred thousand! Is her head a computer?

However, it seemed that the other party had no intention of dwelling on this issue. Immediately, she turned sideways, gesturing for the two women to follow.

“Well then, please follow me.”

Although still a bit curious, Violet was not the type to press aggressively. Since Rebecca avoided the topic, and it was their first meeting, she wouldn’t tactlessly ask repeatedly. So, along with Xiao Guang, she followed Rebecca.

For some reason, Rebecca didn’t take the two women to a counter to wait in line. Instead, she went directly to a table labeled “Reserved,” empty and devoid of anyone. She pulled out two chairs, gesturing for them to sit, before coming around to the back of the counter.

“Please wait a moment, I’ll quickly retrieve the corresponding information from your identity badges.”

Rebecca took out a silver-white square device from under the table, placed Violet’s Mithril-ranked badge into a groove, and immediately a sizzling sound of data being read resonated from within. After about ten seconds, a sheet of paper slowly emerged from the device.

This is… storage and printing functionality?

Damn, this is so high-tech! Wasn’t it agreed that this world was in a medieval fantasy setting?

At this moment, Violet suddenly recalled the fragmented memories of a blood vampire duke named Aphra, obtained from the blasphemous cocoon, and the laboratory labeled as a “legacy of the gods.”

Perhaps, the technology that didn’t belong to this era didn’t completely disappear with the destruction of the Glory City but left behind some remnants.

For example, the batch of protective suits once ordered by Flame Dragon City, and devices like this information storage and printing tool at the Adventurers’ Guild in Courage City.

It’s understandable, but why would the so-called legacy of the gods be such advanced technology? Do gods also enjoy scientific development?

And why have all these things disappeared without a trace, leaving behind only a couple of stray cats?

Violet then thought of the dragon turtle Nasserian in the Black River of the Beastman Kingdom, specifically the mention of the Demon God Olivia.

Judging from the description of the “Demon God Gem (Fragment)” that still lay dormant in her backpack and the account of the old turtle, the Demon God seemed to be a pure mage-type powerhouse and hadn’t played around with any strange high-tech stuff.

I don’t get it. Could it be that this technology wasn’t left by the gods but was instead relics of something else, just misunderstood?

Well, with the information being so fragmented now, any guess would be purely speculative.

After all, she had traveled too little. Once things settled in the capital, it might be time to visit other countries.

On the other side, following the same process, Rebecca obtained the paper containing Xiao Guang’s information. Comparing it with Violet’s, she scrutinized it repeatedly, and her beautifully arched eyebrows furrowed tightly.

“Registered just over a month ago, registered at the Adventurers’ Guild in Flame Dragon City, initial assessment level is Mithril, and so far, you’ve only completed one task in Flame Dragon City. Current level is… Obsidian Steel?”

The waitress lifted her head, looking strangely at the two girls on the other side of the counter.

“Miss Violet, this…?”

“Huh? Obsidian Steel? What’s going on?”

The priestess also entered a state of confusion.

Since completing the task assigned by Countess Anastasia in Flame Dragon City, she and Xiao Guang hadn’t found anything interesting in the cities during their travels and had not stayed long. Naturally, they hadn’t visited the local Adventurers’ Guild again.

She had always thought that she and Xiao Guang were still at the Mithril level. How did they suddenly jump two levels?

“Well… according to the records, the only task you’ve completed, commissioned by Countess Anastasia, has been highly praised. Based on the completion and difficulty level of the task, you were promoted two levels in recognition.”

Speaking of which, Rebecca suddenly leaned over discreetly, cautiously probing.

“You two, you wouldn’t happen to be associated with that lady…”

The receptionist made a strange gesture that Violet couldn’t understand. Soon after, she suddenly realized and awkwardly withdrew it, leaving Violet with a face full of question marks.

“So what’s the deal?”

“N-nothing, really! Um, you’re here to take on new commissions, right? With Obsidian Steel level, you already have good privileges. Here’s the commission catalog, feel free to browse!”

Staring at Rebecca’s flustered and embarrassed face for a while, the priestess was a bit skeptical, but in the end, she didn’t make much of it. She reached out and took the booklet handed to her.

Maybe it’s some unique pop culture in the capital? Well, it probably doesn’t have any special meaning.
