Unfortunately, the stakes in the temples were even higher. The ghosts here demanded everything including life itself, turning the other parties into commodities.
Nevertheless, both sides had to be willing. The form of the transaction could be a bet or a prayer; the outcome depended on the process.
The temples were elusive under ordinary circumstances and required sincere wishes to appear. A top ten list existed - Darkmoon, Money, Armory, Ghostway, Ghost Monarch...
The big shots such as emperors and desolate gods knew them too well. The ordinary market no longer satisfied them, only the richer temples.
Li Qiye analyzed the area and said: “This creepy place won’t be as nice as the main market.”
“Yes, Young Noble, it is rather unpredictable compared to the market’s transactions.” Six-style nodded and could hear strange whispers.
“Strange, I couldn’t hear the forest’s noises before.” She became surprised.
“It’s because your heart is clear without impurities now.” Li Qiye smiled.
Six-style pondered the matter - her cultivation was fully destroyed so she started again from the beginning. She had no shortcuts and took it step by step - this put her heart and mind at peace, plagued with lofty goals and fantastical targets no longer.
“So it is due to your teachings, Young Noble.” Six-style bowed, appreciating her new mental state.
Li Qiye chuckled and suddenly became serious due to an incoming shadow from above.
Strands of sunlight filtered through the treetops and fallen leaves. The forest was already dim so the shadow appeared ghastly. Six-style was startled and took a step back.
When she regained her composure, she saw a pitiful-looking old woman standing before them.
Her hair was draped to her ankles and hadn’t been washed in a long time. They were gray and tangled in some places, making her look like a feetless ghost.
Her clothes were tattered and torn with numerous patches. They fluttered where she stood, painting an eerie image.
“Who are you?” Six-style asked, aware of the old woman being a ghost.
“I’m just a lost soul.” Strangely enough, the old woman’s voice was angelic.
Six-style felt herself being enveloped by a holy light after listening to perhaps the sloppiest ghost in the market.
“Is this an echo?” She became confused because she didn’t have any desire at the start.
“I came on my own accord. Sir, could you bestow some of your divinity?” The old ghost asked like a beggar but in this case, for divinity instead of food.
“Starving?” Li Qiye asked.
“Indeed, it’s been a long time since I felt the warmth of divinity.” The old woman shuddered as if unable to handle the chilling breezes. The lack of divinity made her feel cold and starved.
Li Qiye looked her up and down before exclaiming: “You’re quite something, still remember yourself, and haven’t undergone any transformation.”
“Sir, I found a way to live a bit longer without transforming.” She said.
“So you traded your divinity for lifespan.” Li Qiye understood.
“Yes, since my lifespan was running out, but I didn’t expect it to go like this.” She said with a dejected expression.
“Transaction or transformation, both a heavy price.” Li Qiye said: “Your divinity was ample indeed, exchanging it back in Soulcast Land long ago and still lasting until now. Look at you now, an abomination living a borrowed life.”
“All of her divinity...” Six-style took a deep breath.
“Sir, please give me some divinity.” The old ghost seemingly regretted her choice before asking for help.
“Why should I spare any?” Li Qiye smiled.
She hurriedly said: “I will exchange lifespan for a sliver of divinity, Sir. Your divinity is boundless.”
