“Imitation?” She became confused.
“This pertains to an old tale when Jiao Heng sold Baihui to a devil.” Li Qiye said.
“A mighty progenitor being sold is interesting.” She became curious.
“It’s not a matter of whether progenitors can be sold because if Jiao Heng wants to, he has countless methods. The issue was, he wouldn’t sell a friend.” Li Qiye said.
“They were friends? Then why did he sell Baihui?” She asked.
“Could be a prank or a cooperative plan. Either way, there were contingencies prepared.” Li Qiye said.
“So they conspired for gains?” She thought the two might have tried to trick the so-called devil.
“They certainly gained something out of it, Jiao Heng got paid and Baihui still escaped.” Li Qiye said.
“If that’s the case, then ghosts can escape from the market too.” She responded.
“Soulcast Land was a part of Evil Transformation, far stronger than the current separated ghost market. Escaping was far from easy.” Li Qiye shook his head.
“Yet Baihui still escaped and pursued Jiao Heng.” She mused.
“Hence the contingencies prepared by them.” Li Qiye said before infusing primordial light into the pendant.
The light traveled throughout the pendant but garnered zero reaction. Li Qiye gave up and sighed: “Nothing.”
“Someone wiped it too?” Six-style asked.
“Possibly.” Li Qiye nodded: “Or its owner abandoned everything including karma, the past self.”
“To be reborn or reincarnation?” She murmured.
“No, abandoning all karma is the same as becoming someone else. The past is no longer related to the present.” Li Qiye said.
“What would drive a person to do such a thing?” She wondered.
“Might not be a person.” Li Qiye said.
“A ghost, you mean?” She asked.
“Perhaps, perhaps not.” Li Qiye said: “It is an imitator, but who is imitating who?”
“Young Noble, are you implying that someone had escaped just like Baihui did?” She asked.
“It’s not so simple, everything was identical and, they might not be copying Baihui. This didn’t originate from him, perhaps Jiao Heng copied someone else, Baihui was just part of the implementation.” Li Qiye elaborated.
“Ah, so he might not be the first to do this.” She understood.
“Yes, and the method has been duplicated afterward.” Li Qiye said, his eyes becoming profound.
“Hmm...” Six-style was curious because the only known person who had escaped after a transaction was Baihui.
However, Baihui didn’t agree with the transaction back then. Perhaps the current rules weren’t in place.
“There’s always an answer behind each secret, we’ll find out soon enough.” Li Qiye said.
“What do we do now then?” Six-style thought the answer would be here but this wasn’t the case.
“We’re leaving, off to find that Fog Emissary.” Li Qiye smiled.
The two of them left Heavenfall and returned to Forest of Thoughts. They saw Endlaw Emperor and the old woman along the way.
“Why did you summon me?” The old woman asked.
“I heard you have ample lifespan for trade, that is why I am here in the forest.” Endlaw lowered his head.
“You are on the verge of death with a curse instead of divinity, you have nothing to offer.” She uttered coldly.
Endlaw turned slightly red as he sincerely answered: “That may be true, but I have many treasures with divinity. Is that enough to exchange for some lifespan?”
Six-style sighed after hearing this. The mighty and arrogant Endlaw had no choice but to swallow his pride for survival’s sake.
“I need original divinity which you have none of.” The old woman responded and bowed in Li Qiye’s direction before leaving.
“Any lifespan is a transaction you can’t afford.” Her voice echoed as she left.
Endlaw stood there in a daze. Once he regained his wits, he came over to greet Six-style.
She returned the gesture and then he bowed at Li Qiye.
“I apologize for that humiliating show.” Endlaw smiled wryly: “I wouldn’t stoop so low if there were another option.”
“No one wants to die.” Li Qiye said: “It just depends on how much they are willing to pay to stay alive.”
“That’s why I brought some divine objects for trade, it seems I’ve made a fool out of myself in front of everyone.” Endlaw chuckled bitterly.
“Your Highness, why didn’t you enter Darkmoon, one of the berries can prolong life.” Six-style asked.
“Don’t be fooled by its holy appearance, it is treacherous and there is no returning, the risk was too high.” Endlaw said.
“There is no other way?” Six-style worried because he was their strongest emperor.
“I wouldn’t be here if other medicines were still effective. I’ve tried everything.” He shook his head.
She sighed softly because given Endlaw’s cultivation, he must have obtained and consumed every precious medicine imaginable. Not to mention her, the entire dynasty couldn’t prolong his life.
