Chapter 1064: Counterattack

The Sorcerer Soul Warhammer was a well-known Primordial Soul secret technique of the Sorcerer Clan. Many cultivators from the Sorcerer Clan could cultivate this technique. Still, while its use was widespread within the clan, there were only a few who could wholly and successfully cultivate the technique. The cultivation was difficult because only those with deep cultivation of their Primordial Soul could succeed.

It was why the crowd at Yingyun City had been gripped in shock and apprehension when they saw that the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer summoned. They were all very aware of the power of the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer. Had it been a Supreme Profundity Realm cultivator, perhaps he might have been able to resist it, but this was merely a Tide Changing Realm cultivator. And a Tide Changing Realm cultivator would find it extremely challenging to face the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer!

And now anyone could see that the glowing golden light streaking in swift flight, though extraordinary, was not one from a Supreme Profundity Realm cultivator. Its aura was far from it, and he was, at best, a Tide Changing Realm later stage cultivator. This level of cultivation meant that his Primordial Soul might not have achieved a level that was powerful enough to resist the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer.

This particular Primordial Soul secret technique was a difficult one to evade. Although that golden flowing light was miraculously quick, it would not be able to avoid the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer even if twice as fast.

The Muhong City Mayor’s lips twisted into a cruel smirk. For a mere Tide Changing Realm cultivator to attempt to charge right through him was folly, he was only overestimating himself.

Huai Hongxiu’s eyes glinted with fierce determination from where she stood on the Yingyun City watchtower. She took a step out and, in an instant, soared beyond the perimeter of the city walls, heading towards the direction of the golden light. The golden light streaking towards Muhong City would plunge to a horrific crash the moment the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer hit it, so she would have to catch it in time before it hit the ground. The golden streak of light was now less than 100 miles out of Yingyun City, so she was likely to reach Mo Wen before the Muhong City Mayor could smite with his Warhammer.

“First young mistress...”

“First young mistress, you can’t...”

The crowd in Yingyun City did not expect their first young mistress to leave instantly, even before they could respond. They wanted to hold her back, but it had already been too late.

Beyond the walls of Yingyun City, a fell presence emerged from the nine heavens and descended ominously from the sky. The Sorcerer Soul Warhammer had arrived, and it emanated a foul and profoundly evil aura. It was a massive weapon, entirely black and engraved with mysterious carvings of the Sorcerer Clan’s divine creatures.

WHOOSH!

The Warhammer seemed to exceed the restraints of space and time, and in an instant, it appeared before the golden light and smashed right into it.

Lo and behold! Upon colliding into the brilliant streak of golden light, the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer was no more!

It plunged into the vast sea like a falling rock, vanishing upon contact with not a ripple. magic

The golden streak of light carried on with its flight, unhindered nor thrown off its course. It flew true to its trajectory and appeared right in front of Yingyun City in a flash. It sped toward the first young mistress who had soared out of Yingyun City, and the two beams of flowing lights almost collided.

The first young mistress blanched. She had initially expected the young man and her little sister to both fall way beyond the city, but how did they appear right in front of her in just the blink of an eye? Did the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer not strike their Primordial Souls?

It was not just the first young mistress who was astonished. Still, every single person in the city was in a stupor as well, including, and even the Muhong City cultivators, who had witnessed the scene from below, were astounded.

“How could this be!” the Muhong City Mayor asked again, staggered.

To think his Sorcerer Soul Warhammer had utterly no effect on Mo Wen! Ever since he started cultivating the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer, it had always served as his trump card. It had always provided him with about the desired effect, even in his battles against Supreme Profundity Realm cultivators.

Mo Wen glanced at the first young mistress who greeted them, then spoke calmly, “Return to the city. Not even ten Muhong City Mayors will be able to stop me, let alone the one outside.”

It was quite the audacious claim. Ten Supreme Profundity Realm cultivators could not stop him, a mere Tide Changing Realm cultivator? The crowd would have just treated that as a joke had it been any other time, but in the present circumstances, everyone turned to look at one another. No one said anything, because that scene they had all just witnessed had been too unbelievable. That was the Muhong City Mayor, and yet his hands were, undeniably, tied by a mere youth.

The Huai Clan first young mistress had by now recovered from her initial shock, and seeing her sister was right there in the hands of a strange young man, she hurriedly pulled her close over.

“Older sister!” Tears filled the Huai Clan second young mistress’ eyes. She had thought that she would never see her older sister again.

“Let’s go into the city. This is no place to be chatting.”

The Huai Clan first young mistress appeared unusually stern as she looked at her younger sister—her sister was just too willful, but she said nothing at that moment. She pulled her younger sister close to her, then flew into Yingyun City. They were right outside the city, and no one was stopping them now.

Mo Wen, on the other hand, did not fly into Yingyun City immediately. He turned to look at the Muhong City Mayor, who was still reeling from what he had just seen, unable to fathom why his Sorcerer Soul Warhammer did not have any effect whatsoever on Mo Wen.

“It’d be rude not to return the favor. I think you should take a blow from me as a courtesy, Muhong City Mayor,” Mo Wen remarked mockingly.

Without another word, the space around him swirled strangely, and as he summoned his Sword Qi, it emitted beams of brilliant, white light, forming into what appeared to be a ring of silver light. The brilliance eddied magically around the white Sword Qi—this was the light of the Sea of Spiritual Flowers.

The Divine Sword of the Primordial Soul was one of the three great techniques of the Divine Soul Trillion Layers. Although he had only managed to cultivate the first level, its power was still something to marvel. It was the strongest of Primordial Soul-type secret techniques.

“Primordial Soul type secret technique!”

The Muhong City Mayor’s face twitched as he focused his gaze on the white Sword Qi. From the white Sword Qi, he could feel an aura that made his soul tremble. A Primordial Soul-type secret technique! The sword Qi was a secret technique and was rare even amongst immortal cultivators. And only those select few could successfully cultivate Primordial Soul-type secret techniques.

Everyone in Yingyun City was shocked as well, and they could not believe that an unknown Tide Changing Realm cultivator had grasped such a terrifying Primordial Soul-type secret technique. The Sword Qi was giving off an aura that made their very souls shiver, and it seemed to even more terrifying than the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer.

Mo Wen pointed his weapon in front of himself and a surge of energy from the Sword Qi instantly blasted from its tip. Tens of thousands of white-hot blades of light shot forth, and the force of it all was overpowering.

Like the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer, it exceeded the restraints of time and space, and in a fiery wake, appeared right in front of the Muhong City Mayor, all in the blink of an eye. The Muhong City Mayor did not deal with the attack with the ease Mo Wen had when he comfortably knocked down the Sorcerer Soul Warhammer. At this point, the Muhong City Mayor’s face was extremely grim as he felt the terrifying force, one capable of altering his soul, coming from that Sword Qi.

A beam of dark black light emerged from between his brows and, in that dark light, there appeared a figure sitting in a lotus position. A dark light formed around the Muhong City Mayor, encapsulating his entire body in a shroud of dark, mystic glow, as he kept forming all sorts of mysterious magical seals in his hand. This was none other than the Muhong City Mayor’s primordial soul. The best way to deal with Primordial Soul-type secret techniques was to use a Primordial Soul. Other methods were not known to be as effective.

However, Mo Wen’s Divine Sword of the Primordial Soul was exceptional and had a terrifying effect. Even though the Muhong City Mayor was protected by a layer of the Primordial Soul he had manifested, it could only protect him against the hundreds and thousands of Primordial Soul Sword Qi for the briefest moment before he was torn to shreds. The swarm of Primordial Soul Sword Qi blades dove in like bees into the Muhong City Mayor’s declarative memory.

” Urghh!”

Blood trickled down the corner of the Muhong City Mayor’s mouth. His eyes were glazed, and he became dispirited. Even though his guard had been up and was ready to meet the challenge, the Primordial Soul Sword Qi had overpowered him, damaging his Primordial Soul.

“The sea of spiritual light! You actually absorbed a treasure as rare as the Sea of Spiritual Flowers.” The Muhong City Mayor looked at Mo Wen, his face twisted in agony. He finally realized what the silver light flowing beneath the surface of the Primordial Soul Sword Qi was.

The sea of spiritual light was something any cultivator could only dream of possessing and only those who had absorbed the Sea of Spiritual Flowers could achieve this. With the sea of spiritual light, one’s Primordial Soul would becoming stronger and more resilient. It was similar to putting on a suit of armor on their Primordial Soul. That young man’s cultivation was at par with a Supreme Profundity Realm cultivator’s, and it was even higher than his. That, and the fact that he had the sea of spiritual light, was why his Sorcerer Soul Warhammer had almost no effect on the young man. With a Primordial Soul this powerful and under the protection of the sea of spiritual light, it was difficult to even make a scratch on him.

“You despicable boy!”

The Muhong City Mayor clenched his fists, never expecting to be the one injured. Even if that young man’s Primordial Soul cultivation had only reached the Supreme Profundity Realm, it should not have been enough to injure him, as his Primordial Soul cultivation had reached the Supreme Profundity Realm. And he was a bona fide Supreme Profundity Realm cultivator, it was not easy to wound him just by using a Primordial Soul secret technique. However, the difference here was that he also had the sea of spiritual light —and that was as good as arming the Primordial Soul with a sharp weapon. The mayor did not know how the young man had gotten this lucky, flabbergasted that he had actually managed to obtain the Sea of Spiritual Flowers of legends.

“Yingyun City is under my protection, Mayor. If you insist on fighting till the end, then I shall retaliate.”

Mo Wen flew back into Yingyun City after he left his message. The mission to protect Yingyun City should not be a difficult one if the Muhong City Mayor was the only one he had to deal with.

Hordes of Yingyun City cultivators were watching as the scene unfold before their wide, bewildered eyes. The tides had changed too quickly, and no one had expected for this to be the outcome. Not only had the Muhong City Mayor, a Supreme Profundity Realm cultivator, failed to intercept him, but he had also even gotten injured trying.

Too tough! Too unbelievable! Was that young man really just a Tide Changing Realm cultivator?

When they heard Mo Wen declare that Yingyun City was under his protection and that the Muhong City Mayor had him to answer to, they were all elated. Was someone as strong as him really here to protect them?

The people of Yingyun City felt elated, lifted from their sense of doom, and they couldn’t believe such a scene could unfold, not even in a dream.

“You ignorant punk, you think you can call the shots just because you’ve got a little strength?”

The Muhong City Mayor was so angry he started laughing mockingly. The Tide Changing Realm cultivator standing in front of him even had the audacity to treat him with such arrogance, never in the past thousands of years had this happened to him. The Muhong City Mayor fumed, and thought to himself, “Did this suckling think I would not dare act out just because Yingyun City was under his protection? What a joke!”

“The day we take down the city is the day you perish!”

The Muhong City Mayor left after he gave the warning, and returned to the temporary command hall. The sudden appearance of this cultivator of obscure origins was a tricky thing to deal with, but it was not enough to wane his ambition of taking over Yingyun City. He might have taken this a little more seriously if the other had been of a higher realm, but, a Tide Changing Realm cultivator? Hmmph! No matter how powerful he was, the Muhong City Mayor was confident of beating him.

Cross-realm battles below the level of the Supreme Profundity Realm were much more straightforward, but it was virtually impossible for a Tide Changing Realm cultivator to cross the boundary and challenge a Supreme Profundity Realm cultivator,. And such special talents had been few and far between throughout the course of history. Unless they were the chosen ones, the average cultivator was no more than an ant when facing up to one of the Supreme Profundity Realm. So what if his Primordial Soul cultivation was powerful? The Muhong City Mayor believed that the young man could not wound him if he were to use a treasure that could protect his Primordial Soul.

After the face-offended, the host of Muhong City cultivators returned to their base. Though the result was not an easy one to accept as things stood now, the sullen cultivators had no choice but to regroup. The Purple and Black Sorcerers, on the other hand, sighed with relief. The prowess of the young man had deflected some of the blame from their dismal performance in the battle. With the ability had been clearly demonstrated, there was less of a chance that the Muhong City Mayor would ask them to pay with their lives.

“Your Excellency, and you are...?”

The Huai Clan first young mistress walked over from the city wall, she looked upon the young man with suspicion as she questioned him.

She had some idea of what the Huai Clan second young mistress had been through and how she had come to be acquainted with the young man, but she was rather puzzled when it came to the young man who had appeared out of nowhere. She could say for sure that she did not know him, and when her father, Wise Man Huai Guang, had been around, she did not recall hearing about him either. Why did he want to help Yingyun City, and why did he make such a public declaration?

“My name is Mo Wen, and I’ve come to Yingyun City on somebody’s request to protect you,” Mo Wen said mildly. He did not know how to go about explaining either. The preliminary at the Ancestral Sorcerer Battlefield was probably not something the regular Sorcerer Clan would know about. After all, this was an issue for the higher-ups of the Sorcerer Clan, and few of those below would know about it.

“I see. If I may ask, whose request are you fulfilling, Your Excellency? Is it an old friend of this city?” the Huai Clan first young mistress continued asking, still suspicious.

This young man had come without rhyme or reason, and his arrival was in such incredible fashion. Although it seemed like he was here to help them for now, the situation in Yingyun City was dire, and one could even say it was a tottering regime. There was no shortage of people had their eyes on them—especially since Wise Man Huai Guang was no longer here in the city. Yingyun City, which had had a long and impressive history, had become a piece of meat in the eyes of strong powers. Every one of them wanted the city for themselves.

“I’m not at liberty to say.” Mo Wen shook his head. He was only here to complete his task, so he did not know much else either.

The Huai Clan first young mistress frowned and looked rather distraught. This young man had said that he was here for Yingyun City, but whether or not he was here solely to help them, or whether or not he had other motives were still to be determined. Now, in such an unpredictable period, she had no choice but to keep her guard up, not able to decide whether she could trust this person. However, it was irrefutable that Yingyun City needed such a strong person on their side now.

The people of Yingyun City looked equally distraught. This young man of unknown origins was here in Yingyun City solely to save them. Was it really that simple? They had initially been overjoyed when they realized that a great hero had come to help them, but that feeling has since cooled quite a bit. They too were also afraid that this young man might have ulterior motives and might be coveting Yingyun City like the Muhong City Mayor.

“I don’t think he’s evil, older sister,” the Huai Clan second young mistress remarked quietly from beside her sister.

Mo Wen had saved her twice and she was deeply indebted to him. Besides, she felt that this young man was rather simple and straightforward, and he did not seem to harbor any ill intentions towards them.

“Then...” The Huai Clan first young mistress sighed. The situation could not get any worse than it already was. Now that a heavyweight cultivator who could tip the scales had turned up, this might not necessarily be a bad thing for Yingyun City, no matter his intentions.

“Oh, right. I’ll have to take something from you after I’ve successfully helped you tide over the crisis.” Mo Wen suddenly remembered a detail from his assignment. That item would be proof that he had completed the mission.
