Why Am I a Priestess When I Reach the Maximum Lev…
Vol. 2 Ch. 119 Table of contents

Leila and Rene, this pair of winged sisters, came to Violet as instructed on the night of the second day after the coup had ended.

Before this, it seemed they had flown to an abandoned house to the west of the city, where they did nothing but quietly waited until nightfall.

In the Human United Kingdom, the identity of winged individuals was very sensitive. With their large white wings, they didn’t even dare to go out for food. When they came to find Violet at night, they were starving, and it was the priestess who provided them with food.

The sisters had no secrets from Violet, their lifesaver, and they endured discomfort to recount their past experiences in detail.

The social structure of winged people was somewhat similar to that of beastmen, though more advanced. It was also based on the division of communities by race, specifically by the color of their wings.

This was the most crucial distinction among winged people.

There were over a dozen different wing types among them, with the red-winged, blue-winged, and black-winged being the largest and most basic categories. The others were relatively fewer in number.

Among them, the white-winged type to which Rene and Leila belonged was the rarest and most powerful.

According to the winged people’s ancestry, they were said to be a hybrid of angels and humans, and the white wings inherited the most original bloodline, closest to the mythical beings known as angels.

The current Feathered Emperor of the Azure Sky Kingdom, the ruling winged individual, belonged to the white-winged type.

However, unlike the half-dragon people among beastmen, the Azure Sky Kingdom did not have the concept of primogeniture. In this country, any wing type could inherit the position of Feathered Emperor, as long as they were powerful enough.

Furthermore, the reason why the Azure Sky Kingdom was named so was because it was different from most other countries in the world. Winged people lived in the air, or more precisely, in a place called the Floating Island.

In the four cardinal directions of this world, there are astonishing wonders at the edges.

Among them, the western world where the Human United Kingdom and the Beastman Kingdom are located is an endless wilderness that seems to go on forever, no matter how one travels.

To the east, along the coast, countless powerful magical beasts inhabit the ocean. Moreover, the sea itself is an expansive area that no ship can fully explore.

In the extreme north, it is a land of snow similar to the western wilderness. Continuing north will lead to an endless ice field that cannot be traversed, and it also has to endure constant attacks from extreme cold and the relentless assaults of ice elemental spirits, making it a land of despair.

As for the southernmost country, the Azure Sky Kingdom, it is blocked by the Abyss.

A bottomless abyss, like an infinitely deep chasm.

No one knows what lies beneath the abyss, and no one can return after descending deep into it, even if tied with a rope to descend along the abyss walls. The ultimate outcome is only the rope running out.

The abyss extends to an infinite distance, but the land here did not originally lack existence. At least a significant portion of the area ascended to the sky.

This is the Azure Sky Kingdom, the origin of the continuous floating islands.

The Azure Sky Kingdom has a hundred thousand islands, most of which are inhabited by various winged individuals or other creatures.

No one understands why the floating islands defy gravity. Even when a piece is chipped away, it turns out to be nothing more than ordinary stone, unable to float on its own.

Leila and Rene belong to the White Feather Clan, living on one of the floating islands.

The Azure Sky Kingdom is not exclusive to winged individuals. Perhaps to outsiders, it might seem like a single-race country similar to the Human United Kingdom, but in reality, it is a place of mixed residence.

Occupying another part of the floating islands in the Azure Sky Kingdom are various magical beasts and creatures with flying abilities.

In fact, winged individuals themselves can be considered a type of magical creature, so they don’t immediately engage in intense battles upon encountering magical beasts, unlike the mindset in the Human United Kingdom. Although there are occasional conflicts, overall, they coexist peacefully.

If we analyze it rigorously and consider all hundred thousand floating islands as part of the territory of the Azure Sky Kingdom, then this country essentially has two factions.

One led by the Feathered Emperor, consisting of winged individuals, and the other ruled by the Sky King, comprising winged magical beasts and creatures.

Although Leila and Rene have been alive for over seventy years, their age, among winged individuals, categorizes them as children who have not yet reached adulthood. In the White Feather tradition, there is a test called the “Coming-of-Age Trial.”

The trial involves hunting and killing aggressive creatures that inhabit the floating islands but neither belong to the Feathered Emperor nor obey the commands of the Sky King, proving one’s strength.

The White Feathers are the most rare and prestigious race among winged individuals, not just because of their bloodline or numbers but also because each of them is an exceptional and powerful warrior. Hence, they have inherited this traditional trial.

However, an unexpected event occurred during Leila and Rene’s trial.

In short, the small floating island where they and a group of fellow tribesmen participated in the trial was hit by some external force, causing it to collapse into fragments.

This was an unprecedented sight, and even within the winged community, there had never been a recorded instance of an entire floating island collapsing.

According to Leila’s account, an immensely large beam of crimson light rose from the bottom of the abyss, directly piercing through the entire floating island. The island shattered into pieces, with most creatures perishing instantly. Leila and her sister were hit by the turbulent aftermath, sustaining severe injuries and losing consciousness.

They had no idea what happened next, but when they woke up, the sisters found themselves in a prison cell belonging to some unknown organization.

These individuals seemed to be humans who wanted to train and then sell this precious pair of White Feather sisters at a high price. In the cell, they also encountered many girls of different races.

However, unlike most girls, Leila and Rene were White Feather winged individuals with formidable powers. Especially since they worshipped the God of Sky and Freedom, placing utmost value on the word “freedom,” they couldn’t be easily manipulated.

The sisters attempted to escape three or four times, but the captors seemed to possess some peculiar means. Each time, just as they were about to escape, they were caught and subjected to severe torture.

The brutality of the torture left a deep shadow in the hearts of the young winged sisters who were still inexperienced in the ways of the world. Perhaps those people intended to use this method to break their will to escape, but the deep-rooted desire for freedom triumphed over fear, prompting Leila and Rene to try escaping time and time again.

With earth-level strength, capturing them alive was quite difficult. Eventually, during one attempted escape, Rene was killed on the spot by a pursuer’s mistake.

Witnessing her sister’s death, Leila went insane and stopped running away. In the midst of the fight, she desperately sought revenge for Rene, only to be killed by the enraged adversary.

After that, in death, they were transformed into blood servants, living a miserable existence providing blood for a vampire grand duke.

After their resurrection, those memories became blurry, but in essence, they were treated like objects, placed in a room all day. When needed, they were commanded to cut their wrists and provide blood, as well as manage the bare minimum of daily life on their own.

If it weren’t for Violet accidentally discovering and rescuing them, the sisters would probably have continued their hazy existence until death or until they were discarded and dealt with.

Therefore, it’s not an exaggeration to say that Violet’s act was a kindness of rebirth.
