Lillis looked at the girl with a bewildered expression. She no longer felt the pain from her injuries. Despite the girl’s incredibly cute appearance, she was different from any other demon Lillis had encountered.

“The Demon King…? You’re Bathesia, right?”

“That’s right!”

The girl replied confidently. Lillis let out a sigh of relief.

“The Four Sovereigns…!”

There were a total of seventy-two Demon Kings, but not all of them held equal power. Most Demon Kings had relatively modest territories, and their individual abilities were not vastly different. Karos was an exception, and his power was indeed exceptional.

However, the term “Demon King” referred not only to an individual’s abilities but also to their overall influence within the demon world. Most Demon Kings were relatively insignificant, controlling at best a few goblin tribes. Even the most powerful Demon Kings, like Karos, were usually only in control of orcish territories.

But a select few Demon Kings were different. They had ventured to the surface world, gradually expanding their domains by conquering neighboring territories. Although humans had sent punitive forces to curb their growth, they had relentlessly crushed all opposition, greedily expanding their territories.

Finally, they had grown powerful enough to command respect even among dragons.

These four Demon Kings were known as the Four Sovereigns, and they were feared and revered by demons everywhere. They were:

– Caferea Bordeaux, the Demon King of Despair and Anguish.

– Lubernea Malmas, the Demon King of Sighs and Sorrow.

– Sothracross, the Demon King of Joy and Madness.

– And now, the girl in front of them, Bathesia Concretia, the Demon King of Screams and Rampage.

“Insane… Karos knows her? And she’s an enemy?”

Lillis bit her lip. The difference in power was too great. While Demon Kings were respected within their own ranks, they were often hostile towards one another. Their competition for the surface world and the coveted position of the Great Demon King led to fierce rivalries.

This was troublesome. Lillis pressed her hand against the injured area. If Bathesia wished, she could eliminate them both effortlessly. There was a significant gap in power between Karos and Bathesia.

Karos shouted in frustration, “Are you crazy? I’m a Demon King now too, just a few years later than you! What’s the difference?”

“Oh, really? Is that so? You’re just an idiot who’s protected by your secretary! Fine, come at me! I’ll kill you!”

“Ha! You think you can kill me? Have you forgotten all those times you lost at the academy?”

“That was just practice! Let’s see how you fare in real life, you bastard!”

Karos grumbled, and Bathesia clenched her fist. Gradually, a powerful magical aura gathered in her hands, and thunder crackled within the narrow room. The others in the waiting room screamed and fled in panic.

Karos, sweating profusely, took a step back. “Damn it, she’s even worse than I remembered.”

Bathesia Concretia, the Demon King who had excelled in the subject of mana control at the Demon King Academy.

Bathesia had gained even greater control over lightning as she became a Demon King. Her turbulent relationship with Karos dates back to their early days at the Demon King Academy. Bathesia always growled at him, and Karos would mock her relentlessly. At the academy, they were bound by rules that prevented physical violence, but now there were no such restrictions.

Karos’s face turned pale as he realized the danger. There were no safety measures here. If Bathesia decided to attack, there was no one to stop her from killing them both.

“Wait, hold on a second. Bathesia, let’s have a conversation. We’re both demons and even though we may be hostile, don’t we have some semblance of reason? Let’s think about where things went wrong.”

“No need for that! Just die already!”

Bathesia snarled and raised her hand. The powerful shockwaves caused the waiting room to slowly collapse.

Karos’s face became even whiter. This was incredibly dangerous. There was no safety net anymore. If Bathesia killed him here, Lillis wouldn’t survive either. It was a secretary’s duty to honorably accompany their Demon King, even in death. Even if she survived, she would likely disappear without a trace within a few days.

“Wait, Bathesia, please calm down.”

**** ****

“Huh? Why are you stepping forward? I’m just going to kill that guy and be done with it.”

Lillis stepped forward, and Bathesia looked puzzled. Lillis bit her lip; this couldn’t happen.

She was the Demon King’s secretary. If Karos died here, she wouldn’t remain unscathed. It was her role to accompany her Demon King honorably in death, and even if she survived, she wouldn’t last long.

“…Please calm down, Lady Bathesia. I may not know what happened between you two in the past, but this won’t end well for you if you harm Karos at this point.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Our Demon King has only been in power for a week. If, at this stage, Lady Bathesia harms Karos, it will significantly damage Lady Bathesia’s reputation.”

“Ugh…”

Lillis’s words made Bathesia hesitate. It wasn’t entirely untrue. Attacking another Demon King was allowed, but there were certain restrictions. A Demon King who had just ascended to power couldn’t be attacked. Attacking an underdeveloped Demon King like Karos, who had only recently taken on the role, wasn’t honorable. Bathesia was well-respected among Demon Kings, and such an action would tarnish her image.

Bathesia hesitated, and Lillis took another step forward.

“Moreover, this is the waiting room to meet the Great Demon King. Causing a disturbance here won’t reflect well on Lady Bathesia either.”

“Oh…”

With that, Bathesia lowered her raised hand. The waiting room was already a mess, and the other demons who had been waiting had fled in panic.

Lillis let out a sigh of relief. “Let’s calm down, Lady Bathesia.”

Even demons have nightmares, especially when it comes to facing some Demon King. No one wants to experience that.
