Karos’ Demon Castle was cramped. In fact, it couldn’t even be considered a proper Demon Castle. Karos was far from shameless enough to call this small cave a castle.

There were barely three separate rooms, just enough for basic living.

Even when it was just Karos and Lillis living together, it was already quite uncomfortable. And with the addition of slimes, it became not just uncomfortable but also incredibly cramped.

And now, their family had grown by one more member.

A girl who always growled at Karos.

Bathesia, who had been sitting there absentmindedly, now had a bewildered look on her face, as if she had just eaten spoiled fish.

“…Am I this guy’s subordinate?”

Under her, there were tens of thousands of undead soldiers and dozens of high-level monsters. Death Knights, Ogres, and Balrogs. Each of them was a monster capable of easily crushing an entire territory. Even the Empire couldn’t dare to provoke her.

But now, all of that had disappeared. And on top of that, she had become the subordinate of the man she wanted to kill most.

“She must be out of her mind.”

“Shut up, kid. I might go crazy too.”

Karos muttered irritably. How did things end up like this? Looking at it objectively, it wasn’t that bad. Even though she had lost her demonic abilities, her magical power didn’t disappear. Each of the spells she cast was on a massive scale. With just a thought, she could still stand up to a whole kingdom on her own.

The problem was that it was Bathesia. There was no way she would listen to him.

Karos sighed in frustration.

“Is this because of accumulated karma?”

He had accumulated karma by cursing the Demon King. It wasn’t the time to listen to her again. Karos closed his eyes. While he did that, Bathesia looked around and spoke.

“What’s this? Is this really a Demon Castle? It looks more like a storage room than anything else.”

Karos replied with a resentful look on his face.

“Do you have a problem with it?”

“Of course I do. Is this really a Demon Castle? It’s even smaller than the storage room in my castle.”

“This is really…”

Karos growled at her words. But it was still his Demon Castle. It didn’t feel good to have someone else, especially Bathesia, badmouth it. Karos suddenly realized.

“Now, you have to live in this storage-like place too.”

“…Damn it.”

Bathesia scrunched up her face. Karos looked at her with a wry smile. Now he had to live with Bathesia.

A strange silence hung between them.

“Both of us are going crazy.”

They both muttered at the same time. But they didn’t resist. From Karos’s perspective, survival would be precarious without her, and from Bathesia’s perspective, living as Karos’s subordinate was the only way she could return to being a Demon King. After their respective problems were solved, they didn’t know what would happen, but for now, they had to acknowledge each other’s existence.

Breaking through that strange distance, Lillis took a step closer.

“…So, what’s your plan? You should probably take care of the rooms first.”

Karos thought it was a nuisance, but for Lillis, this was an opportunity she couldn’t miss. It was like a powerful joker appearing in her weak hand. Karos nodded at her words.

“Hmm. Come to think of it, that’s right. What’s the situation with the rooms now?”

“For now, the largest room is the Demon King’s office and bedroom, the middle room is mine, and the smallest room is for the slimes and succubus… Oh, by the way, the succubus has awakened.”

“Huh, really?”

Karos asked in surprise. When she was first summoned, she was sleeping, so they couldn’t even exchange greetings. It had been a few days since she woke up, making him wonder if they had drawn a defective one. But now she was awake.

“Where is she right now? Let’s go and…”

“Maawwwnnn!”

“Yowch!”

Something flew from the end of the cave and hit Karos in the back. Unable to overcome the force, Karos rolled on the ground. Lillis let out a light sigh, and Bathesia flinched.

“What, what’s going on?”

“Demon King! Demon King! Maawwwnnn!”

“Oh, an assassin? Die!”

Karos was startled and pushed away the clinging figure. But the assailant stubbornly clung to him.

“Demon King!”

“Wait a minute.”

Karos stopped for a moment. He didn’t sense hostility. Regaining his composure, he looked at the figure in front of him.

“Are you a succubus?”

“Yes! Your greatness, Demon King!”

The girl smiled brightly and nodded her head.

**** ****

Black hair, black eyes, small horns, and demon wings on her back.

Her body appeared to be around eighteen years old. Her face was more cute than seductive. She wriggled on top of Karos’s head like a puppy.

“Oh, Demon King. It feels like I’m healing.”

“…Lillis, what is this?”

“A succubus.”

“I know that. Why is she like this?”

Karos asked, his face still scrunched up. Lillis calmly explained.

“I don’t know.”

“What do you mean, ‘I don’t know’? ‘I don’t know’ isn’t an answer.”

“I really don’t know. She woke up a few hours before you returned. She started singing songs like ‘Demon King, Demon King,’ and this is how it turned out.”

“Hmm… Demon King…”

“Hey, you! Don’t eat my hair!”

Karos forcibly removed the succubus, who was chewing on his hair like a snack. When she tried to stick to him again like a puppy, Karos shouted in exasperation.

“Don’t! Sit!”

“Yes!”

The succubus immediately planted her bottom on the ground. Bathesia whistled.

“That succubus listens well.”

“Let’s have a conversation first. Are you really my subordinate?”

“Yes! I am your loyal servant! Who else would I serve?”

“Is this how it works with summoned creatures?”

It was a mixed blessing. If a creature like a dragon had come out and said, ‘I don’t listen to weaker beings,’ Karos would have felt wronged.
