I never thought I’d be blindsided by the author of a novel I was enjoying so much.
The novel was called Academy’s Godly Sword Legend. The story was about a protagonist in a world where hunters exist in Korea, who rises from nothing by awakening a power known as the Divine Sword. He grows stronger through the academy and ultimately becomes a renowned S-rank hunter in Korea.
Then came the sequel, Academy’s Divine Sword Legend. The new protagonist is granted a Divine Sword by a constellation and grows through the academy, much like in the first book. Sure, it’s a bit of a mass-produced storyline, but it was fun nonetheless—except for one thing.
"What the hell was the point of this heroine?"
One of the heroines in Divine Sword Legend was Yoo Eun-ha, the younger sister of the previous protagonist, Yoo Jin-seok. She was a recluse who’d been stuck in her brother’s shadow for most of her life. After being forced into the spotlight by receiving a recommendation to attend the main setting of the story, Hanseong Academy, she reluctantly joins.
The problem was Yoo Eun-ha’s character was completely messed up. Growing up constantly compared to her brother, she ended up rebellious, smoking, and piercing various parts of her body, pouring her frustration out on the world. At first glance, it seemed like she was just another delinquent girl for the protagonist to redeem and turn into a heroine, but the reality was quite different.
It might have looked like she was going to die heroically while fighting off monsters, but nope. She just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, getting pierced through the chest by a villain’s attack during a fight at the academy. And just like that, she died. So why did they even keep her around as a heroine?
What’s worse, her abilities were pretty decent too, giving readers false hope that she might become the main heroine. But instead, she just got killed off for no real reason.
For me, a wage slave working at a soul-sucking company, reading web novels after work was one of the few joys in life. But this turn of events pissed me off so much that I could feel the back of my neck burning with rage, so I left a comment.
[BlackCompanyKorea: What the hell, why did you kill off Yoo Eun-ha?]
[Author: There were too many heroines, so I had to cut some of them, haha;;]
Haha;;? Haha;;?!
Are you laughing, you son of a bitch?
Already stressed from dealing with my boss, I exploded at the ridiculous response. Forget lawsuits or whatever, I just bombarded him with every curse word I knew.
[Author: Hey, do you know how hard it is to write with over ten heroines? I had to reduce their roles to make the story work.]
Yeah, sure. Then why make her a heroine in the first place?
I was about to let loose another string of profanity, but the author added another comment.
[Author: I admit the abilities I gave her were a waste, but if you think you can do better, why don’t you try?]
"What is he saying? I don’t want to."
[Author: Isn’t it better than your current trash life?]
"Oh, that’s a tempting offer. Wait, who are you calling trash?! And why is he replying to what I’m saying out loud?"
[Author: Then as you wish.]
"Wait, hold on, wha—"
Before I could finish my sentence, my computer made a strange popping sound.
I felt my vision grow darker as I slowly lost consciousness.
Damn bro got kidnapped for a reasonable crash out
