Chapter 635. We Just Wanted to Try Some

Black Tower, 99th Floor.

"What?! A new world has connected to the Black Tower?"

"Yes. And this petrified spider comes from that world. The name was something like Bi... something..." Elka trailed off, trying to remember the name.

[The Tower Administrator says it’s called “Bix.”]

Aileen answered in Elka’s stead.

"Really? When did this connection happen?"

[The Tower Administrator reports it connected three hours ago and is an 8th-level world.]

"8th level? That's pretty high."

Which made sense; only a high-level world like that could provide petrified spiders so easily.

For reference, the higher the world's level, the greater the weight of items it can bring into the tower.

"But why did you bring this here?" Sejun asked Elka. He did need the materials, but there didn’t seem to be a reason for Elka to go out of his way to bring them.

"We wanted to try some ourselves."

Elka responded with a slightly disgruntled tone.

They had heard about the delicious meals Sejun prepared but were a bit hurt that he hadn’t invited them, especially during times when they helped care for the younger ones.

"Oh…"

Sejun felt a pang of guilt.

A little later, the other wolves showed up, carrying calamities from the First to the Fifth Calamity on their backs.

"Give me just a moment," Sejun said, quickly setting to work preparing dishes from the calamities the wolves had brought.

With the locusts, he made fried chicken, boiled chicken, and a spicy stew. From the giant bloodsucking leeches, he cooked seaweed soup; the fire moths became spicy squid salad, tempura, and sashimi.

The petrified spider’s body and legs had distinct flavors, so he made steamed crab from the legs and lobster butter roast from the body.

Finally, with slime meat, he made stir-fried pork, sweet and sour pork, and pork kimchi stew.

Thanks to these, their dinner turned out to be an enormous feast.

"Thank you for the meal!"

"This is amazing, Sejun!"

Sejun felt a bit relieved from his guilt as he watched the wolves devouring the food with pleasure.

After the feast ended, the wolves prepared to leave, packing up the leftover food.

"Why not stay for breakfast tomorrow?"

Sejun tried to get them to stay.

"No, we should head back. Our families are waiting."

The wolves left the tower in a hurry, looking forward to the joy their families would feel as they shared the delicious food they had brought back.

With the wolves gone, an unusual stillness filled the farm, a stark contrast to when it was bustling with them.

"Heh heh. Chairman Park, if you’re bored, why not give me a belly rub, nya?"

Kuengi!

[Kuengi wants to dance with Dad!]

Heehee! Squeak?!

[Butler, do you want to hear what the Great Kamangi did today?!]

Of course, with his lively companions, that empty feeling was quickly forgotten.

Amidst the chatter and antics of his companions, time passed quickly.

Grrr.

Snore.

Zzz.

Before long, they were all asleep.

Sejun wanted to sleep, too, but he had some things to do.

"Pink Fur, here."

He sent Kuengi off to be with Pink Fur for the night.

"Aileen, you awake?"

He called for Aileen.

[The Tower Administrator replies with a drowsy voice, saying they’re not asleep.]

"Oh, you’re sleepy?"

[The Tower Administrator vigorously shakes their head in denial.]

A strong denial is as good as an affirmation.

But…

"Oh, alright. Want to have a little chat then?"

Sejun decided to take Aileen’s words at face value. After all, they rarely had chances to chat alone like this.

"Heh heh. Aileen, once I’m a landlord, I’ll treat you to the best food every day."

[The Tower Administrator says they’re fine with that.]

[The Tower Administrator adds that they find your cooking to be the tastiest of all.]

"Really? Then, what would you like for breakfast tomorrow?"

Feeling pleased by Aileen’s response, Sejun asked.

[The Tower Administrator eagerly shouts that they want meat, no matter what!]

"Heh heh. Got it. I’ll cook something meaty for you tomorrow."

[The Tower Administrator says they’re very happy.]

"Me too. Though I suppose I’ll also have to make the dinosaur nuggets that Ace loves, huh?"

With this lighthearted conversation, the night passed peacefully.

Inside Theo’s Mind

"Heh heh. Form a line, nya!"

At Theo’s command, the non-combat gods formed a line, stamping Theo’s contract with their paw prints.

"I finally joined the “No Questions Asked” company!"

"Ahem. We’re official employees of Sejun Company now!"

As the non-combat gods celebrated signing the contract, the God of Alcohol, Dio, suddenly appeared and charged at Theo.

"So, you’re this Vice-President Cat everyone talks about?!"

Dio had asked Bev and Battler how to obtain welfare points.

"Oh, welfare points? You just have to fight that Vice-President Cat and win."

"Really? So I get points every time I beat him?"

"Hah! Just once is enough. Beat him once, and the Vice-President Cat will give you welfare points whenever you need them."

Bev and Battler, knowing Dio would never agree to become an official employee, tricked him into challenging Theo.

Thus began the fight.

Boom!

Dio was smashed to the ground by the giant Chairman Park No. 2’s mighty punch.

"Hmph! Not bad."

Gulp. Gulp.

Dio chugged a bottle of liquor to suppress the pain.

[You drank 100-year-old whiskey.]

[<Power: Heavy Drinker> activated, boosting all stats by 30%.]

[Due to <Trait: Alcoholic>, all abilities increase by 10%, and pain resistance greatly improves.]

[<Skill: Drunken Fist (Master)> activates, making your body flexible and enhancing evasion.]

Dio’s combat power surged as his drinking-related abilities kicked in.

"Alright! Here I go!"

Dio charged at Theo again.

Boom!

Of course, the result was the same.

"Heh heh. Welcome, nya!"

Theo stamped Dio’s thumbprint on the contract while he was unconscious.

Then…

"By the way, what’s his name, nya?"

"He’s Dio, the God of Alcohol."

"Heh heh. D. I. O. Done, nya!"

Theo asked a nearby god for Dio’s name, completing the contract.

Now, three of the five high-ranking executives in the Battle Shop Headquarters were employees of Sejun Company.

For the record, none of the four executives from the Seed Shop Headquarters had joined yet—they had all failed the selection lottery.

"Heh heh. Stamp here, nya!"

And so, with more gods joining as full employees, Sejun Company continued to expand.

As did the power of [System SJC].

The Next Morning

First, we should check out Bix.

Sejun prepared to head to the first floor of the tower.

He was reluctant to leave Theo’s pull to the Tears of Destruction unattended, but he couldn’t ignore what was happening on Bix either.

According to Elka, ogres and planet-destroying turtles had also been spotted in Bix.

While the residents of Bix, being from an 8th-level world, were strong, they still weren’t a match for the Sixth Calamity (ogres) or the Seventh Calamity (planet-destroying turtles).

The hero Pochi had fought an ogre before, but that was because Pochi was exceptionally strong.

“Hamk’s” hero, Pochi.

The title of “Hero” was not easily earned, and many worlds didn’t have heroes at all.

As Sejun packed his bags…

"Heh heh. I’ll take some of Chairman Park’s crops to sell, nya!"

Kuhehehe. Kuengi!

[Hehehe. Kuengi will fill his snack pouch!]

Theo and Kuengi gathered their supplies as well.

Heehee. Squeak! Squeak?

[Hehe. Good! Now, no one will ever know!]

The Kamangi family moved their food stash to a new hiding place before leaving.

A little while later…

“Vice-President, be ready to come out right away, alright?”

"Heh heh. I got it, nya!"

With a final reminder to Theo, Sejun teleported to the first floor of the tower.

[You have arrived on the first floor of the Black Tower.]

As soon as Sejun arrived…

Click.

He opened his spatial warehouse.

"Heh heh. Great Hybrid Chairman Park, I missed you, nya!"

Theo dashed out and clung to Sejun’s knee.

Then, he fully activated his <Ability: Energy Siphon>.

With Sejun’s strength, residents on the first floor of the tower could die if he let his power run unchecked.

While he might be weak on the 99th floor of the Black Tower, Sejun was powerful enough to be considered a walking calamity on the first floor.

Thanks to Theo’s help, Sejun no longer had to worry about harming the surrounding residents.

He quickly approached the special portal, placing his hand on the dark hole in the floor.

Then…

[There are currently three accessible destinations.]

[Please select your destination.]

<Earth (Lv. 1)>

<Hamk (Lv. 7)>

<Bix (Lv. 8)>

A message popped up before Sejun.

"Earth."

He chose Earth.

Not that he intended to go there; he just wanted to check how much the residence fee would cost.

With a 50% discount on the fee, surely it would be much more affordable, right?

Full of anticipation, Sejun waited for the result.

But then…

300 Quintillion per hour?!

His heart sank.

The fee was now 30 times higher than before! Even after the 50% discount, it was still 60 times more.

The reason was simple: the stats of the Kamangi family had significantly increased after consuming the Growth Elixirs, making it impossible for them to stow away in Kamangi’s fur like before.

And Sejun and his companions had all grown incredibly powerful—particularly his companions.

Sejun was stronger too, of course, but his contribution to the 300 quintillion fee was less than 1%.

I’m supposed to be strong too…

The sudden realization hit him hard.

A little later…

“Bix.”

Regaining his composure, Sejun placed his hand on the portal again, selecting his destination.

[The number of entities using the portal is fifteen.]

[Would you like to pay the residence fee for fifteen and move to Bix?]

"Yes."

Since Bix was an 8th-level world, the residence fee was just 3 billion tower coins.

[With your current funds, you can remain here for over 100 days.]

[Teleporting to Bix.]

With that, Sejun and his companions were transported to Bix.

Phew. I can relax for now.

[System 371] sent a message as Sejun left the tower, feeling a sense of relief.

But…

I’ve only bought time…

What do I do now?

The anxiety returned.

Once Sejun came back, he’d probably obtain the system access key eventually.

And then, I’ll be impeached…

It had tried to convince itself that Sejun might not be able to access it, but…

Considering Theo’s ridiculous luck and the growth of [System SJC], that hope felt flimsy.

Maybe I should start sucking up?

But then again, I do have some pride. Why should I bow to an error that slipped in by mistake?

Lost in thought, [System 371] struggled with the decision.

A moment later…

Alright! I’ve made up my mind!

Pride doesn’t put food on the table!

[System 371] decided it was time to swallow its pride.

[You have arrived at Bix.]

“‘Have arrived at Bix’?”

What’s going on?

Sejun was taken aback by the overly formal message from the system.

Then…

Boom!

Sejun saw a massive fortress barely holding up against the attacks of two ogres.

"Vice-President, go handle that, will you?"

"Heh heh. Understood, nya!"

Pow! Pow!

In an instant, Theo appeared behind the ogres, smashing the backs of their heads.

"Heh heh. Task complete, nya!"

“Good job.”

Theo returned to his place on Sejun’s lap in a flash.

"Alright, everyone, let’s go."

Sejun and his companions moved toward the fortress wall.

"I’ll take you to your king. Follow me."

He placed his hand on the unconscious ogres to absorb their fighting spirit.

Then…

Thunk!

Theo instantly dealt the finishing blow to the ogres.

At that moment…

[Such mastery, gaining half the experience from the Sixth Calamity Ogres slain by Park Theo, a mere bystander in the Black Tower’s luckiest draw. Truly remarkable.]

[You have received 250 billion experience.]

A message appeared in front of Sejun.

What the heck?! Is it mocking me for getting experience without doing anything?!

The praise from [System 371] left Sejun feeling annoyed.
