Chapter 9: The Creation Furnace

Mo Yang silently examined the items within his spatial ring, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. He turned to Su Fei’er and said, "I keep my word. From now on, we’ll go our separate ways, as long as you don’t come looking for trouble with me!"

Su Fei’er snorted coldly and retorted, "Hmph, who’d want to bother with you? I was only curious before!"

Mo Yang quickly waved his hand dismissively, saying, "Miss, please don’t get curious about me. Otherwise, you’ll end up falling for me sooner or later!"

Su Fei’er let out another cold snort, turned on her heels, and left the courtyard.

Once she was gone, Mo Yang couldn’t wait to step inside his house, closing the door tightly behind him. Without hesitation, he entered the stone tower.

He went straight to the second floor, where a dark pill furnace as tall as his shoulders stood. Only now did he notice three ancient characters etched onto its surface: Creation Furnace.

The area surrounding the pill furnace had already been cleaned thoroughly during his previous visit. Besides the divine pill manual, there were also two ancient scrolls, each filled with insights and experiences on pill refining.

To Mo Yang, these scrolls were akin to having an extraordinary alchemy master by his side. Over the past few days, he had committed their contents to memory.

Inside the furnace, a crimson flame burned steadily, its origins unknown but seemingly eternal.

"Could this be a type of celestial flame? Otherwise, it wouldn’t have lasted so long… Since this furnace is called the Creation Furnace, I’ll name this flame the Creation Flame!" Mo Yang murmured to himself as he studied the furnace. He then began preparing his materials.

The divine pill manual provided a general classification of pills, ranging from simple to complex, each requiring different ingredients.

The more common pills required fewer, easily obtainable ingredients, while spiritual pills demanded a multitude of rare and extraordinary herbs.

For his first attempt, Mo Yang chose a basic pill recipe recorded in the manual: the Marrow Cleansing Pill.

As its name suggests, the Marrow Cleansing Pill purifies the body by removing impurities, enhancing one’s physical constitution, and refining their spiritual roots. It could even achieve a state of unparalleled purity and had a significant impact on refining true energy.

Mo Yang selected this pill because it was ideal for cultivators with low cultivation levels. By improving their foundation from the start, it offered immense benefits for future cultivation. Additionally, it required only two ingredients, making it relatively simple to refine.

"Hundred-Spirit Vine and Long Ginseng Beard—only two ingredients. I’ve memorized the alchemical incantations and techniques; it should be easy to refine!"

Taking a deep breath, Mo Yang carefully measured the ingredients and began his first attempt.

However, as soon as he placed the Hundred-Spirit Vine into the furnace, it was instantly consumed by the crimson flame, reduced to ashes before he could react.

"I even used my true energy to envelop the ingredients. Why…"

Frowning in contemplation, Mo Yang tried again. Unfortunately, the second attempt ended just like the first.

Undeterred, he tried a third, fourth, and fifth time…

Time passed unnoticed. More than half of his Hundred-Spirit Vine supply had been consumed, yet success continued to elude him. Although he had gotten closer with each attempt, the final steps always led to failure.

"Dammit! I refuse to believe that such a small pill can defeat me!"

"I survived ten years of darkness! No matter how many times you test me, I’ll treat you like royalty!"

With renewed determination, Mo Yang dove into another attempt. Twice more, he came close to success, only to fail at the critical moment.

Moreover, he discovered that while pill refining didn’t seem to consume much true energy at first, the repeated attempts had drained him completely. Exhausted, he could only sit down to meditate and restore his energy before resuming.

Hours turned to days as he painstakingly refined the ingredients. By the time his supply of Hundred-Spirit Vine and Long Ginseng Beard was nearly depleted, he finally succeeded in forming a single pill.

However, the pill looked nothing like the descriptions in the manual. Its color was dull, its surface uneven, and its shape irregular.

Holding it in his palm, Mo Yang couldn’t help but grin despite his exhaustion. He inspected it briefly before swallowing it whole.

The moment the pill entered his mouth, it dissolved into a warm current that spread throughout his body. Soon, he felt a fiery sensation as if his insides were ablaze.

Sweat poured out of his body, soaking his clothes within moments. His entire being felt as though it were being purified in an intense inferno.

Though the pain was excruciating, Mo Yang gritted his teeth and endured. Half an hour later, the burning sensation subsided, leaving behind an indescribable sense of lightness and comfort.

Ignoring the grime that had seeped from his pores, Mo Yang immediately circulated his true energy. He noticed it had become more refined and easier to control. Even his cultivation level seemed to have risen slightly.

"Impressive…"

The manual had noted that the first dose of the Marrow Cleansing Pill was the most effective. Subsequent doses would yield diminishing returns.

"If I can refine one pill each day, in half a month, I’ll have undergone a complete transformation. The only issue is the lack of ingredients…" Mo Yang muttered, frowning. The thought of conning Su Fei’er again briefly crossed his mind, but he doubted she’d fall for it twice.

After meditating to restore his energy, Mo Yang left the stone tower.

For the next few days, he focused on refining pills in the tower, producing two more Marrow Cleansing Pills before running out of materials entirely.

Despite his lack of formal cultivation practice, the repeated depletion and recovery of his true energy during alchemy had unexpectedly accelerated his progress. By the time he emerged from the tower, his cultivation had reached Earth Profound Realm, Stage Three.

Life on Wood Peak remained quiet. Mo Yang even found himself hoping for Su Fei’er to visit—not for her company, but in the hope of securing more ingredients.

Buying materials from a nearby city wasn’t an option; the cost alone was prohibitive.

"Looks like I’ll need to refine some kind of beauty-enhancing pill to ‘exchange’ for resources… Not a scam, just a fair trade…" Mo Yang mused, a plan already forming in his mind.
