Sabrina’s explanation was concise, covering all the crucial points.

She detailed how Nemesis had kidnapped Rayne to conduct large-scale human experiments and how David’s actions, including the blackout and dispersal of sleep gas, were intended to minimize civilian casualties while rescuing her. The final step was for David, now on his way to the VIP banquet hall, to free Rayne.

Raven stroked his chin thoughtfully and nodded.

“Hmm… so that’s what’s going on. Hexahemia Syndrome, huh?”
“Do you know about the illness affecting Rayne?” Sabrina asked.
“Anyone in the know has heard of it. It’s an extremely rare condition where blood reacts to mana. No wonder Nemesis is up to something shady.”

Raven acknowledged that Sabrina’s claims were logically consistent.

Planning large-scale human experiments to create Hexahemia serum sounded insane, but in this city, such madness wasn’t unheard of.

If Hexahemia serum could be stabilized and mass-produced, allowing prosthetics for non-humans to dominate the market, the resulting economic windfall would certainly be enough to drive someone to extremes.

Still, as the claims came solely from the supposed “terrorists,” trusting them was another matter entirely.

“Intern. Do you believe what she’s saying and decided to help her because of that?” Raven asked, turning to me.
“It’s not a lie! It’s all true!” Sabrina protested, visibly upset at being doubted.

But Raven wasn’t one to be swayed by emotion. Even if his fight with Lexi had been out of necessity, to secure his help here, they needed hard evidence to convince him.

Could that even be done?

‘Hmm… we don’t have any visible proof, and I can’t exactly say “I know from the original story.” Besides, I can’t even talk.’

In the original, Raven had figured everything out on his own, but now that I was in the thick of it, I had no idea what evidence to present.
The further things diverged from the source material, the harder it was to rely on those events for guidance.

As I wracked my brain for a way to expose Nemesis’s plans, an unfamiliar woman’s voice rang out from the hallway.

“Hey! What are you doing there? This area is off-limits to unauthorized personnel!”

The sharp, hysterical voice made all three of us turn toward its source.

There stood a stern-faced woman with red glasses, her expression radiating authority.
I recognized her immediately. I couldn’t recall her name, but she was the lead researcher for the Hexahemia experiments and the one who had ordered Rayne’s abduction.

Why was she here? Shouldn’t she be at the VIP banquet hall?

I tilted my head, puzzled, until it dawned on me.
‘Ah, she must’ve been managing staff on the lower floors before the blackout hit. This… is incredibly lucky.’

I grabbed Raven’s sleeve and tugged urgently, making him turn to look at me.
Then, pointing at the woman, I gestured emphatically that we needed to catch her.

If we searched her belongings, we were sure to find something significant. It was a golden opportunity.

“Guards! What are you doing? Get rid of these intruders immediately—ugh!”

Whack!
A spinning pistol hurled by Raven struck the woman squarely on the forehead, sending her crumpling to the ground.
Judging by her lack of reaction until the very last second, her reflexes were almost sloth-like.

Sliding to the floor with her eyes rolled back, the researcher lay unconscious. Raven scratched his head, looking mildly exasperated.

“Well, I guess that worked.”
“…!”
“Relax, it’s fine.”
“I can see that!”

While Raven sighed heavily, I nodded firmly, reassuring him that he’d done the right thing.
I then darted over to the fallen researcher, rifling through her belongings until I found a suspicious data chip.

This was it. I could feel it. A hundred percent.

“This looks promising… let’s see what’s on it,” Raven said, taking the chip and inserting it into his device.

The sheer volume of data caused his terminal to lag momentarily.
How much information could possibly fit on such a tiny chip?

As Raven read through the files, his brows furrowed deeply.

“This is….”
“What’s on it?” Sabrina asked anxiously.
“It’s a presentation for VIPs. It goes into detail about the large-scale experiments you mentioned. This… this is damning.”

See? I wasn’t lying. Why didn’t you trust us earlier?

I shrugged smugly, which only made Raven glare and press down on my head with his palm.

“Ow! That’s going to make me shorter!”

“Hm, I’ve got an idea.”
“What kind of idea?” Sabrina asked.
“This data… let’s send it to a journalist I know. A scandal this juicy? The headline practically writes itself: ‘The Dark Secrets of Nemesis: Illegal Human Experiments Exposed.’ It’ll go viral immediately, and Nemesis will be torn apart from every angle.”

Without hesitation, Raven began transmitting the data to his contact.

The journalist he referred to was infamous, a ruthless paparazzo notorious in the entertainment industry.
But even someone like that could be an asset if used wisely.

What followed was predictable. The mayor—a dragon with a flair for drama—would demand an immediate investigation, starting with the Nemesis employees on-site.
The police, initially dispatched to capture the “terrorists,” would shift their focus to Nemesis, uncovering evidence of the experiments.

The large-scale experiments would be exposed to the public, Nemesis would face a barrage of lawsuits, and David would vanish into the shadows with Rayne.

Wait, wouldn’t the police eventually catch David?
Not likely. The pragmatic dragon mayor would quietly order them to let him go, knowing that David’s actions had been relatively mild—just a blackout and sleep gas—with no casualties.

“Phew… it’s finally over. Somehow, we managed to tie everything up.”

Relief washed over me, the tension of the day giving way to exhaustion.
Now that everything was set in motion, I didn’t need to meddle any further.

Come to think of it, I hadn’t eaten anything today.
As soon as I clocked out, I was treating myself to a steak sandwich—double the meat.

As I rubbed my empty stomach, I glanced around and noticed something odd.
Wait… where was Alice?

“…?”
“Looking for Alice?” Raven asked, noticing my confusion.
“…!”
“She’s probably napping somewhere. Pretty sure she inhaled some of that sleep gas. She should be waking up soon.”

So that’s why she disappeared.
I chuckled at the thought of Alice peacefully sleeping through all this chaos, but then a question popped into my head, and I shot Raven a look.

Wait, could he read minds?
How else was he answering my thoughts so accurately?

“I’m not reading your mind, kid. I’m just observant. Your thoughts are so obvious they’re practically written on your face.”
“…!!”
“Got it right again, huh?”

Terrifying! That’s even scarier than actual mind-reading!
Shivering at Raven’s uncanny ability, I slumped in defeat.

Just then, a faint tremor shook the building.
It wasn’t strong, but it was enough to set my nerves on edge.

“What was that…?”
“Could it be… Brother?” Sabrina gasped.

Exchanging a glance, we rushed down the hallway. Reaching a large window, we looked outside—and there they were.

David, covered in blood, flying through the air with Rayne in his arms.

“That’s my idiot brother and Rayne!” Sabrina exclaimed.
“Well, that’s a picture-perfect scene,” Raven commented dryly.

David’s tattered form and Rayne’s elegant dress made them look like a painting come to life.
The shattered glass sparkling around them in the sunlight added an ethereal touch, as if the world itself was blessing their escape.

Resting my hand on the window, I watched them disappear into the distance, recalling the dialogue from the original story.

“Idiot, you didn’t have to go this far and bleed so much. I’m not worth it….”
“You are my precious person, Rayne. You gave me my identity as David when I would have otherwise disappeared nameless.”
“Pfft, how is that my doing? You worked hard and earned that yourself. I didn’t do anything.”
“And I’m sorry… for not keeping my promise to make you happy.”
“Idiot. What are you talking about? You already have. Right now, I’m happier than ever….”

Yeah, childhood friends deserve a happy ending.

Feeling a deep sense of satisfaction, I watched as David and Rayne landed safely and vanished into the horizon.

The Nemesis incident had reached its dazzling climax, and everything was finally over.
Nothing beats a happy ending. I couldn’t help but smile.
