“Whaaaaaa!”

The loud, screeching sound of a siren struck my ears intensely.

It wasn’t the first time I had heard this sound.
I’d hear it occasionally when fire trucks or ambulances would pass by.
At first, it might be annoying, but after waiting for a little while, it fades away quickly, so it didn’t really bother me much...

“…It’s loud.”

This time, unusually, I covered my ears.
The siren had been blaring for almost ten minutes now without stopping.
Normally, if there had been a fire nearby, I would have peeked out the window, but I didn’t bother doing that.
Of course, it wasn’t because I was indifferent to safety.

“When will it stop?”

I knew that the siren wasn’t coming from outside.
And it wasn’t as if there was a siren inside the house either.
