When we talk about the Age of Exploration, we usually only think of India.
Well, the Age of Exploration itself was about going to India to trade spices, or rather, to do kinpai, so it’s not wrong to think that way.
In fact, the real money was made by developing the West Indies and South America, developing silver and gold mines, and trading in specialty products.
Not to mention South American grains and vegetables like potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, and pumpkins.
‘Potatoes, sweet potatoes, and corn are gods.’
“I thought it was just an empty land that I could make my own if I planted a flag on it in the worst case scenario... but who would have thought it would produce valuable specialty products?”
I’m also glad that there are indigenous people.
