"...Whew."
The world was left with only blood, corpses, and silence.
Amidst the constant noise of beans frying, screams, and the wind and rain blending together, the surrounding area felt emptier than ever.
Sadly, it was actually true. There wasn’t a single Icarus Operator around me, except for myself. At times like this, being a Mutant Operator was truly sorrowful. Even if I had the strength to maintain the frontlines alone, that couldn’t fill the mental void I felt.
At my feet lay bodies and blood. The traces of the destruction I had caused.
There was no one alive. The only silver lining was that none of the fallen soldiers were American. They had all managed to retreat in time and reformed their defenses.
From the muzzle of my gun, steam rose. I had spent an immense amount of ammunition, which was the most valuable resource at the HQ right now. Unlike the American soldiers or the higher-ranked team members who had run out of ammo long ago, I had been able to carry on until the very last round.
- "You're holding up well, kid? Excellent... Damn it!"
- "Falcon Team has identified the Icarus Operator 'Viper.' Engaging combat now."
- [Notification: Napalm detected. Shield capacity decreasing.]
- "Don’t be fooled! Attack!"
- "Photon 1, we will now assist in retreat. The lock-on warning is going off. If you don’t hurry, either you’ll be left behind or the craft will be destroyed!"
- "Welcome aboard, Dagger Team. We’ll guide you to Northern Florida as quickly as possible. I know you’re busy, but please buckle up and sit down, or grab something to hold onto."
- "From Tyndall Air Force Base, a B-1 Lancer is carrying four B61 50kt bombs and heading your way. Operator Olivia?"
- [Helmaker 1, two-code recognized. Warhead activated. ETA 5 minutes 33 seconds… Who would’ve thought we’d be dropping nukes on Disney World. There shouldn’t be any friendly forces left within the blast radius, right?]
- [Understood. Can we start calling the call sign Disney Slayer now?]
