Struggle in Ancient Times
Chapter 143.1 Table of contents

“Big brother, please push it to the side, it’s crooked,” Liao Tingyu directed.

Liao Shi carefully looked, raised the harpoon, and thrust it into the water, successfully impaling a fast fish.

Liao Tingyu got wet from the water splashed by the fish’s last counterattack.

“Good guy, this fish is still strong. Let’s see how it behaves when it gets into the pot later.”

“Little brother, why don’t you stay a little farther away; otherwise, your clothes might get wet today,” Liao Shi suggested, concerned as Liao Tingyu squatted on a stone, afraid he might fall into the water if he got too excited.

“It’s okay, big brother, don’t worry. I still have netted fish here! The fish you caught may have a ruptured gall, so it’s not suitable for eating,” Liao Tingyu reassured.

Liao Shi examined the belly of the fish he had speared, confirming that the gall was not pierced.

“Then, please be careful, the stone isn’t big,” Liao Shi cautioned as he unloaded the fish from the harpoon and threw it on the lawn.

“Don’t worry,” Liao Tingyu confidently replied, waving his homemade fishing net.

Casually looking down, he spotted a plump fish approaching. Liao Tingyu quickly prepared the net, silently placed it in front of him, declared “Hyaa,” and swiftly swung it up. The fish immediately crashed into the fishing net.

Liao Tingyu admired the changing shape of the fishing net, a smile almost overflowing.

He called out to the two children, “Come on, son, your father caught a fish.”

Then he tossed the fish onto the lawn. The two children watched the struggling fish and poked it with their hands.

When Mother Deng noticed the children playing with the fish, she intervened and scolded, “You’re not allowed to play with fish. Come here. Your uncle and aunty will handle the fish.”

She turned to Liao Tingyu and cautioned, “You shouldn’t give fish to children. If the scales come off and stick to their hands, it might turn into a fish mole, which looks very ugly. When the child grows up and realizes what’s beautiful and what’s ugly, they might end up hating you.”

Liao Shi nodded seriously in agreement.

Liao Tingyu wore a somber expression. He just wanted to show off, but it didn’t turn out as expected.

“I understand, Mom. Stop talking. Isn’t this okay? I will show them how to handle it if it sticks to their hands.” Liao Tingyu placed the fishing net on the shore, walked over, and carefully inspected the two children’s hands in the light.

Mi Li, aware of his dad’s earlier scolding, stood obediently and listened to his dad’s instructions.

Afterwards, Liao Tingyu went into the river to wash his hands.

.

After the meal was done, and the family was full and satisfied.

The sun had begun to exert its power. Even hiding in the shade of a tree required a breeze to feel cool.

“Children, follow me down to the river,” Liao Shi said, acting like the king of children, waving his hand and running down the river with two children in tow.

Like a good father and uncle, Liao Tingyu took two wooden lifebuoys and placed them under the two children.

Liao Shi stood downstream, and Liao Tingyu was upstream. The two children were surrounded by each other, rowing slowly, feeling the flow of the water.

Occasionally, some small fish would swim over and gather together, swimming very fast here and there.

The two children were very surprised. They tried grabbing, holding, and stopping the fish with their hands.

Unfortunately, the group of fish dispersed as soon as their hands came close. Occasionally, they were lucky enough to catch a fish, but their hands were weak, and the fish broke free immediately.

They played indifferently all afternoon, and when they went back, the moon was already above the branches.

They were tired from playing but very happy. As the former king of children, Liao Shi, took them to climb trees, chase pheasants, and trap rabbits. They were full of new experiences.

Mi Gao even climbed up a tree and dug out a bird’s nest. Mi Li was envious when he saw the colorful bird eggs and the nest. But being young and not having mature arm strength, Liao Tingyu did not allow him to climb too high.

.

“This child is tired from playing today.” Huang Zilan hugged the child and placed his head on his lap to help them sleep better.

“How could he be not tired? My big brother took the children everywhere. I never thought he was so capable before. He even shot a pheasant.”

Liao Tingyu said unhappily. Today, Mi Li’s mouth was filled with the words “Uncle is so awesome,” the uncle was so capable, but as a father, he was not very capable at all.

“Big brother didn’t know how to do this before. I made everything for him. Even the slingshot was made by me.”

Huang Zilan looked at his childish husband and said humorously: “Don’t say such thing like you did something for them. Are you even awake? Big brother was busy playing with the two children. But you were sleeping on the blanket under the shade. It is normal for the children to worship the eldest brother.”

“Besides, you can’t climb trees. When children play with you, they can only play some mind games and the like. Boys should be running around more.”

Liao Tingyu held back his mouth. Was this because he disliked him as a man for not wild enough?
