A Very Ordinary Birthday

The day before his birthday, Uijae was still boiling hangover soup.

Last year’s birthday had ended up noisy without meaning to, but this time he was going to spend it quietly. Uijae had decided that much. Of course, receiving congratulations from a lot of people… wasn’t bad.

But he didn’t want every birthday to be such a spectacle.

Just something simple…

Blow out the candles with Haeun and Grandma and Lee Sa-young, eat some cake. That was all he needed. The act of marking the day was what mattered, after all. Nodding to himself, Uijae sprinkled a generous amount of perilla powder over the hangover soup. He set two earthenware bowls on a tray and stepped out of the kitchen.
