The whole being forced to lie thing with the mask seems a bit inconsistent. What about "Don't even think about it!" is a lie?
Apparently he can lie to himself, as explained in his first interaction with the manifested sin of solace. It may also just be a mistake, but the whole thing with not only lying, but always saying the exact opposite, is very vague anyways.
