Soul Slayer Chronicle (Novel)
Chapter 6 Table of contents

Suddenly, it sensed something. Its huge eyes narrowed as it stared at Jiang Xiaobai, seeing him in a new light: “Boy, you actually possess a natural Soul Root?”

“Do you… does your Soul Root have an attribute?”

When it mentioned this latter point, the voice of the major demon was filled with shock, and there was even a hint of stuttering.

Spiritual roots are common amongst ordinary people, merely varying in quality.

But a Soul Root is rare, not even guaranteed to geniuses and prodigies.

And yet this sickly young man actually had a Soul Root?

This was truly inconceivable to it.

After speaking, the demon’s claw was also withdrawn, and its large eyes continued to size up Jiang Xiaobai.

The previous ferocity seemed to have dissipated into nothingness.

“Go to hell, how would I know if it has an attribute…”

Jiang Xiaobai continued to curse.

He was hearing about soul power and Soul Roots for the first time.

How would he know about any attributes?

“What, you don’t know?”

The major demon’s gaze refocused.

“What, I just don’t know, come on, if you have the guts, kill me!” Jiang Xiaobai clutched his chest and said coldly.

The major demon looked at Jiang Xiaobai, who was so assertive, its gaze flickering, and finally spoke: “Fine, I can’t be bothered with you!”

“Since that old man sent you here, then you might as well try for me. If you can actually pull that thing out, I will spare your life!”

“Pull out my ass!”

As Jiang Xiaobai stood up, he clutched his chest and coughed violently again, then, breathing heavily, he said to the major demon: “Ha, I’m going to die anyway, why should I help you?”

“You…”

The major demon, upon hearing Jiang Xiaobai’s words, had a cold look in its eyes and an overwhelming aura. It raised its claw and then put it down, raised it again, and put it down, as if the imposing air had deflated like a balloon.

“Fine, fine, I won’t kill you, and even if you can pull it out, I’ll reward you!”

“Cut the crap, I don’t give a damn!”

Jiang Xiaobai’s pale face was full of disdain, and his gaze at the major demon even carried a hint of mockery.

Does it consider him a child?

“What do you want, then?” the major demon suppressed its anger.

“Apologize to me!”

“You dare ask me to apologize to you?”

The major demon roared in anger, but after seeing Jiang Xiaobai still looking ice cold, it shouted angrily: “All right, all right, I apologize, I was wrong!”

Jiang Xiaobai, upon seeing the major demon actually apologizing, flashed a look of surprise, swallowed, and then said lightly: “Say it, you… what do you want me to pull out?”

The major demon didn’t bother with small talk, and bent its head to the ground.

It was then that Jiang Xiaobai noticed that a black sword was stuck in the head of the major demon.

The sword was not big, about the size of a dagger.

Especially on the head of the major demon, it looked like a toothpick.

This…

Jiang Xiaobai was puzzled.

Just such a small sword, even the Cloud Sword Sect’s Elder Ruojian couldn’t pull it out?

Jiang Xiaobai couldn’t help but ask: “What is this sword?”

“How would I know!”

The major demon, upon hearing Jiang Xiaobai’s inquiry, got somewhat irritable and said: “A hundred years ago, I accidentally stumbled into a mysterious realm, and when I finally got out, this damn thing was stuck in my head!”

“I’ve had many people try to pull out the sword, but no matter how high their status, they all died on the spot.”

“Even your elder ancestor, on his first attempt, nearly lost his soul!”

With that, the major demon glanced at Jiang Xiaobai: “Then, I was conned by your elder ancestor to this place, and have been imprisoned here by these soul-binding chains up until now!”

Saying this, the irritation of the major demon seemed to deepen, and the previously disappeared aggression began to grow stronger, making the area gloomy and cold: “Damn it, my sanity is being affected by this damn sword again!”

Seeing this, the major demon’s eyes were now slightly red.

“Boy, if you don’t do it now, it’ll be too late. If you can’t pull out the sword in time, you’ll be swallowed by me first!”

The major demon gasped heavily, looking like it was suppressing something.

Jiang Xiaobai seemed to understand why the Elder Ruojian restrained the major demon with these chains.

Perhaps it was because the major demon could lose its mind and go on a killing spree?

Frowning, Jiang Xiaobai hesitated at the sight of the dagger.

Did he have a choice?

He did not.

Death was waiting both in front and behind.

One step forward might still offer a chance to live.

Seeing that the major demon was growing more impatient, Jiang Xiaobai hesitated no longer and carefully climbed onto its body.

The major demon, perhaps thinking Jiang Xiaobai was dawdling, lifted its claw and directly carried Jiang Xiaobai onto its head.

As Jiang Xiaobai approached the small sword, he found that the dagger was now emitting a strange black light.

This made him feel somewhat insecure.

After all, if the formidable figure from the Cloud Sword Sect couldn’t pull it out, how could he?

“What are you waiting for? Pull it out!”

The voice of the major demon rang out.

“Damn it, stop rushing me, I need to study it!”

Jiang Xiaobai retorted irritably.

“You!”

The major demon, hearing Jiang Xiaobai’s rebuke, felt a surge of anger rising to the top of its head, and its body shook violently.

For the major demon, this shaking might have been minimal, but for Jiang Xiaobai, it felt like an earthquake, and he slipped, falling down.

In his hurry, his hand directly grasped the short sword emitting the dim light.

The moment he held on to it, the dim light suddenly intensified, and strange purple patterns emerged on the blade of the sword.

And these patterns began to extend up Jiang Xiaobai’s hand.

In less than a moment, his arm was covered with dark purple patterns.

Upon noticing this, Jiang Xiaobai’s complexion turned pale.

But he dared not let go easily because if he did, falling would likely mean certain death.

So he had no choice but to hold on tightly to the sword handle.

As the purple-black patterns continued to climb, Jiang Xiaobai’s face also got covered.

At that moment, he experienced what it meant to have pain in the soul.

A simple touch caused his entire body to convulse.

The agony made him wish he could just die, but clearly, he didn’t have that option anymore.

Because the sword seemed to be glued to his hand, no longer something he could release if he wanted to.

As the pain grew deeper, Jiang Xiaobai’s will blurred, his mind went blank, as if he had fallen into endless darkness.

Hiss!

The black short sword, at that moment, moved out an inch.

As Jiang Xiaobai got more covered by the purple-black patterns, the black dagger once again shifted an inch outward.

And when Jiang Xiaobai’s body was fully covered with purple patterns, the black dagger was completely pulled out of the major demon’s body.

Without the sword fixed in place, Jiang Xiaobai fell straight from the top of the major demon’s head.

As he was about to crash to the ground, a claw caught him.

The major demon, looking at the unconscious Jiang Xiaobai on its claw, saw the redness in its eyes slowly fade away, but the ferocity did not disappear.

Indeed, it was contemplating whether to kill this young man or not.

To do so would be ungrateful.

But… this might be its only chance.

After all, the elder had not been able to do what this young man had managed.

It envied him deeply.

If this young man were left to grow, humanity might see another genius rise.

Especially, remembering how this guy cursed at it, a surge of anger rose in its heart.

Just as it was determined to kill, its huge pupils suddenly narrowed.

It noticed the dagger in Jiang Xiaobai’s hand melting, and it completely disappeared in his palm.

And the purple-black patterns also gradually receded and disappeared from Jiang Xiaobai’s body.

The sword, could it have been dissolved by this boy?

In a daze, the major demon thought for a long time, eventually suppressing its desire to kill, and threw him aside, letting out a deep sigh and lying down to wait…
