The Country Life Diary of a Gangster's Secretary - c30

“Wow, it really is Cheon Hyeseong. But what did you say just now? Didn’t you say it wasn’t you?”

At Park Dohyun’s blabber, the man began to snicker with a gleeful face. Hyeseong held his forehead for a moment, then gazed at the other person again. He still couldn’t remember.

“No, look here. Who are you to suddenly……”

Dohyun looked angry and tried to step up, but Hyeseong stopped him.

“Yes. I am Cheon Hyeseong.”

Hyeseong quickly changed his stance and admitted it. Right. That person already seemed convinced anyway, so even if he denied it, it probably wouldn’t last long. Thinking somewhat positively, he opened his mouth again.

“So who are you?”

“What. You don’t know me?”

“That’s why I’m asking. At least among the people I know, there’s no one who acts so rudely, talking loudly in a public place like this.”

Hyeseong picked up the rest of his bags without batting an eye. He moved to the side so as not to inconvenience the people using the checkout counter. Then the man laughed as if dumbfounded and followed.

“Wow, you’re the same as ever. That shameless guts of yours. Okay. Since you really seem to not remember, let me tell you. I’m Kim Doo-sung.”

Kim Doo-sung? Hearing the name, he thought he might remember a little, just a little. But that was it. It wasn’t enough to immediately recall, “Ah, right!”

“Wow, I’m hurt. You really don’t know? Then do you know if I say this? Baek Dae Pa’s Kim Doo-sung.”

Ah, Hyeseong finally let out a low groan. Now I get it. I know who this person is who has no manners.

His existence was tied to Hyeseong’s first meeting with Ihyeok. Hyeseong took out the page of when he first met Ihyeok, like opening a book with a bookmark and fully remembered Doo-sung’s existence.

“USB.”

When Hyeseong muttered in a low voice, Doo-sung clapped his hands. Like someone praising for getting the right answer.

“Yes. Seems like you remember now. But how do we all meet like this? You’ve grown quite a bit too? I almost couldn’t recognize you.”

“I know, right? But we’re not close enough to greet each other so happily and talk about recent happenings, so what’s this about?”

That day was the only time they passed by each other. Hyeseong tricked Baek Dae Pa with a fake USB and immediately followed Ihyeok out the back door to escape. After that, he had never run into those people.

“I’m hurt. Man. Even if we’re not close, we have a deep history, don’t we? Because of your dirty little trick, our organization was ruined. If I say it like that, you’d feel bad, you bastard.”

Doo-sung approached a bit threateningly. While smiling at that. People were still glancing over, but no one tried to step in. Well, Doo-sung’s height looked to be easily 190cm.

“Excuse me. I don’t know who you are, but your attitude is quite unpleasant, so stop it. Hyeseong, let’s go.”

Dohyun’s voice had lowered at some point. He tried to pull Hyeseong away, but Doo-sung still didn’t give way.

“By the way, who’s this kid? I heard you joined Taesung and were always stuck with that bastard Kwon Ihyeok.  Guess that’s not it either?”

Calling Kwon Ihyeok a bastard felt a bit unpleasant, but he couldn’t nitpick every little thing like that.

“Look here. I know who you are now. And I know we didn’t meet under good circumstances. But I don’t think you have the right to block my way like this.”

In other words, he was telling him to get lost. But Doo-sung only let out a hollow laugh. However, his momentum had become a little more vicious than before.

“Ah, you’re pissing me off. Why don’t I have the right? My future was ruined because of you.”

“If you were running an organization in that kind of underhanded way, it would have disappeared long ago even if it wasn’t Taesung.”

“This guy, seriously……”

Doo-sung approached threateningly, getting totally serious. But Hyeseong’s attitude remained composed. Dohyun looked surprised and fidgeted nervously as he approached from the side.

“Ha, forget it. Hey.”

In the precarious standoff, the first one to back down was Doo-sung. He snickered and rummaged through his pocket, then took out his cell phone.

“Anyway, meeting again like this must be fate, so give me your number.”

“No thanks. There’s no reason to give it to you.”

“Ey, don’t be like that. Hurry up and put it in.”

But Hyeseong only furrowed his brows, and the phone Doo-sung held out hovered in the air.

“Hey, Cheon Hyeseong. If you don’t put in your number, I won’t get out of the way.”

“What the heck… If you keep this up, I’m going to call the police.”

Dohyun made a dumbfounded threat, but he wasn’t the type of person to be scared by that in the first place.

“Sure. Call them. Do you think a thug like me would be afraid of that? No. Just call them. Let’s cause a scene here today.”

Doo-sung shouted loudly inside the mart. Because of that, the people who were just passing by and whispering stopped and looked at them with uneasy eyes. The employees’ faces were also turning sour. It was a look hoping the situation would end quickly.

“Stop it already.”

“So. This could be over if you just give me your number, why are you being so difficult? Hurry up and put it in. Unless you want to be in a video of me causing a scene that goes up on the internet.”

“……”

Hyeseong’s brows furrowed even more. Then he quickly took the phone and put in his number.

“H-Hyeseong.”

Dohyun reached out as if to stop him, but Hyeseong’s fingers didn’t hesitate as they typed his number.

“Is this good?”

Doo-sung looked a little surprised at Hyeseong’s unflinching and confident attitude as he took the phone, and then immediately made a call. As vibrations rang from Hyeseong’s pants pocket, he nodded with satisfaction.

“Yes. Should have done this from the beginning. Then go carefully. Pick up when I call.”

With those words, Doo-sung passed by Hyeseong. As the situation seemed to settle, the people who had gathered to watch also scattered.

Hyeseong walked out of the mart with Dohyun and headed to the bus stop.

“Hyeseong, no matter how I look at it, I don’t think you should have given him your number.”

“If I didn’t, that person really would have caused a scene.”

“Still.”

“Don’t worry. I won’t meet him again anyway and I’ll block his number. Ah, and Dohyun.”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t tell the CEO about this.”

“Oh, okay.”

Hyeseong said that and got on the bus.

* * *

“Did something happen?”

That was the first thing Ihyeok said as he suddenly entered the yard and addressed Hyeseong. While Dohyun was washing up, Hyeseong came out to the yard to tidy up some of the weeds, and Ihyeok came in as if it were his own house and suddenly asked.

“No. Why do you keep asking me that whenever you see me?”

“You don’t look well. Did something happen when you went out?”

“Nothing happened. And CEO, this isn’t your house, it’s next door. If you’re off work, go back.”

Hyeseong glanced at the vibrating cell phone, then got up and went into the house.

No matter how he looked at it, it was strange. Hyeseong usually had very little change in expression, so others might not notice, but he did. He could detect those subtle changes.

“Hmm. It’s definitely strange.”

Ihyeok, who was watching his back, let out a low groan without a word.

* * *

Hyeseong woke up at the same time today as well. Still, as if he had adapted somewhat to life here, his biological rhythm was slowly changing. After looking at the clock that was a little past 9 a.m., Hyeseong came out and headed to the kitchen.

“Ah, Hyeseong! You’re up?”

Park Dohyun, still wearing an apron that he wasn’t used to, came into view. Whatever happened with Ihyeok, since making breakfast that one time, the duty had somehow fallen only to Dohyun. Even if he said there was no need to go through the trouble, he would adamantly shake his head and only say incomprehensible things like he had to do at least this much to survive.

“Today’s breakfast is seaweed soup and rolled omelette!”

Dohyun began to excitedly fill the table with food. Still, having this noisy guy around, there was no time to be bored or idle.

“You’re pretty good at Korean cooking too?”

Hyeseong looked at Dohyun with surprise after taking a spoonful of the seaweed soup. It tasted much better than what he made from living alone.

“Right? I think I have a talent for cooking. I’m studying by watching YouTube too. I’ll make you lots of delicious things, Hyeseong.”

“You’re saying you’ll at least earn your keep by cooking?”

Hyeseong chuckled and picked up a perfectly cooked rolled omelette. Then suddenly Ihyeok came to mind. Come to think of it, he wondered if Ihyeok was eating breakfast well these days.
