Returning home with an ominous feeling, fortunately what he was worried about didn’t happen. Although his body temperature rose and his heart was beating a little faster, unlike last time, it felt like it was resolving quickly. As the doctor said, his body seemed to be properly adapting to the changed nature.

“It’s a relief that Dohyun isn’t here.”

Dohyun happened to have something to do in Seoul, so it became more convenient for Hyeseong to act when dealing with matters related to Kim Doo-sung. He could stay without worrying even when his body condition was abnormal like now.

But apart from that, he felt a little empty now that the guy who was here was gone. It was past lunchtime. Hyeseong looked around the house he was left alone in. Was the house this empty? That’s when Bokshil, who had woken up from sleep in Dohyun’s room, ran out in one breath and nestled into Hyeseong’s arms.

“Right, I had you?”

Bokshil was busy barking loudly and licking Hyeseong’s cheeks. Hyeseong cleaned Bokshil’s food bowl and opened the refrigerator to prepare a late lunch for himself. And he smiled.

Hyeseong-ah, this is curry!  If you don’t feel like cooking while I’m gone, boil this and eat it.

Bean sprouts that Hyeseong likes!

This is seaweed soup! I made a lot, so heat it up and eat it!

Seeing the post-its Dohyun left on the pots and side dish containers, he couldn’t help but laugh. He was fiddling around alone in the kitchen before leaving, so it seemed he was doing this. Somehow it felt like he could hear the guy’s voice next to him. He was going to just boil ramen with kimchi for lunch, but seeing this, he couldn’t just pass it by.

Hyeseong neatly organized and stacked the memos Dohyun had put up one by one. Then he took out the biggest pot and lit the fire. The savory aroma of curry instantly filled the kitchen.

Hyeseong was also confident in making curry. Come to think of it, not long after moving here, he had curry for breakfast sitting across from Ihyeok.

A sigh-like remark flowed from Hyeseong’s mouth. Even  if he tried not to think about it, it kept coming to mind while living everyday life like this, so it was a troubling situation. He knew it was absurd to sort out 6 years of time and the emotions accumulated during that time in a single day. Even though he thought not to be impatient, that time would solve it as medicine, Hyeseong felt complicated feelings at the thought of Ihyeok that suddenly came up.

Hyeseong went into the messenger room he shared with Ihyeok while eating. The last exchange was a text saying he wouldn’t be able to return from Seoul for a while. Hyeseong touched the screen and kept scrolling up.

A tremendous amount of text filled Hyeseong’s eyes. Hyeseong did not delete the conversations he had with Ihyeok, nor did he leave the messenger room, keeping everything without fail. Hyeseong, who had a neat personality, used to regularly organize messages, but he had never organized the conversation room with Ihyeok at the very top.

[Hyeseong-ah, you worked hard today too.]

[Did our Hyeseong go on a nice trip with his vacation?]

[Hyeseong-ah, it’s a bit boring at the company without you.]

[Hyeseong-ah, that bastard Kang Seongjin is crying again saying he got dumped. Try comforting him.]

[Hyeseong-ah, I always say this but if you’re having a hard time, tell me. Don’t overdo it. Okay?]

Kind and warm texts.

“…Ah.”

Tears fell down Hyeseong’s cheeks.

“You’re pathetic, Cheon Hyeseong.”

It’s not like he’s filming a drama alone. It’s not like he broke up with a long-time lover, but he’s crying. Hyeseong put down his phone and rubbed his eyes roughly.

How miserable is this. Looking at the texts they exchanged and getting sentimental. Hyeseong felt contradiction and absurdity about himself, but suddenly felt a bitter feeling.

“….”

Tears kept flowing from his wiped eyes. He doesn’t blame the changed nature. As the doctor said, it wasn’t gloomy or anything that he manifested as an omega. Because he was the type who believed that nature wasn’t very important in living life. At first, he even thought that this omega nature was like an opportunity that allowed him to leave Ihyeok.

Moreover, in a way, it was Hyeseong’s fault that things turned out like this. Because he carelessly took the nature test in the past and lived complacently.

But at times like this, he occasionally had such thoughts. If he hadn’t manifested as an omega, if he had stayed as a beta, could Hyeseong be by Ihyeok’s side now?

He doesn’t expect to be reciprocated for these feelings. He just wanted to be able to stay by his side and comfortably assist him and watch over him.

At least there would have been no such thing as hurting and pushing away Ihyeok, who didn’t know anything, with harsh words. Hyeseong kept rubbing his sleeves to wipe away the flowing tears. The corners of his eyes reddened and his sleeves were soaked.

Nevertheless, the fact that nothing changes is the reality right before his eyes. Hyeseong calmed down a bit and finished eating. No matter what, he shouldn’t become weak. This had to be the last time he cried.

Hyeseong barely finished the tear-soaked curry.

* * *

Before falling asleep, Hyeseong sat on the bed and looked through his phone contacts. His eyes felt swollen from crying, but it didn’t matter since Dohyun wasn’t here anyway.

“I’m sure I had that kid’s number…”

As Hyeseong scrolled to the end of the contacts.

“Ah, here it is.”

[Han Deok-soo]

Hyeseong called without hesitation. Not long after the ringtone, the other person answered the call and a sound of stumbling and falling was heard.

“Hello…”

– Hye, Hyeseong hyung?!

Deok-soo’s surprised voice could be felt from here. Hyeseong looked at the screen once with a puzzled face.

“Yeah. Deok-soo. How are you doing?”

– Oh… What! I’m doing well, haha. How about you, Hye, Hyeseong hyung?

“Me too. But you’re still the same as always. Calling a same-age friend hyung.”

– Haha, it became a habit so I unconsciously… But, why the sudden call? Could it be…

“Could it be?”

– Ah! It’s nothing. Haha.

Was he surprised by the call after a long time? Deok-soo’s way of speaking and laughter were all awkward. Well, they only frequently interacted during the Taeseong gang days, so it had been quite a long time.

“Sorry for calling so late. It’s nothing much, but I heard you work at a private investigator office, is that right?”

– Yes. I’ve washed my hands clean and I’m doing decent work too.

He had vaguely heard it from Ihyeok before quitting, so he called and fortunately it seemed to be correct.

“It’s just that I have a personal favor to ask of you.”

– A, a favor?

Deok-soo’s tense voice was heard, but fortunately Hyeseong didn’t notice the strangeness. Hyeseong spoke without minding.

“Yeah. Can you find out the direct number of the president of Seohyeon Corporation for me?”

– The president of Seohyeon Corporation?

“Yeah. I have a situation where I need that person’s number.”

– Hmm… It’s not a difficult request. Should I just find out the number for you?

“Yeah. Please.”

Deok-soo said he understood and would send a text to this number as soon as he found out. Then he awkwardly asked how Hyeseong was doing these days. When asked if he was doing well with Ihyeok and if there was anything going on, Hyeseong just gave vague answers. And just in case, he didn’t forget to ask Deok-soo to keep it to himself that he made such a request.

Deok-soo probably wouldn’t contact Ihyeok, but it was better to be careful anyway. At the request, Deok-soo paused for a moment and then said not to worry. The call ended like that.

If things went well with Team Leader Lee’s side, the next role was Hyeseong’s part. If he could just obtain the account book, Hyeseong planned to immediately contact Seohyeon’s side. Directly to the president at that. If he contacted half-heartedly, they might ignore him.

With Deok-soo’s information power, he would be able to find out the number of the Seohyeon side’s leader without much difficulty. He was a quirky guy who called him hyung because his birthday was earlier, but he was meticulous when it came to work.

“I hope things go well.”

Hyeseong thought as he went to bed. If this was resolved well, he could completely suppress that unlucky Kim Doo-sung. But if it didn’t go well, that would be dangerous in its own way. Even if Hyeseong tried to find another way, Team Leader Lee wouldn’t be like that.

Hyeseong fell asleep slowly, thinking he shouldn’t think about what would happen if he failed for now.

A little past midnight.

Hyeseong woke up from sleep to go to the bathroom. The strawberries he had eaten a few of after dinner that Dohyun had washed clean were the cause.

After going to the bathroom and checking if Bokshil was sleeping well, Hyeseong tried to go back to the bedroom. But strangely, he heard a sound from outside. At the voice that sounded like people fighting, Hyeseong naturally headed towards the living room window.

Looking through the window, he saw two people standing on the road a little far from Hyeseong’s house. But looking closely, the atmosphere was unusual. It seemed like a man and woman were raising their voices and fighting with each other.

Hyeseong went outside for a bit. Going to the front yard of the house and looking closely, he saw a familiar face. It was Mrs. Han who ran a fruit store in the neighborhood. She was raising her voice and gesturing at the man, and the man was also not backing down and spewing curses loudly.

Hyeseong moved his steps a little more.

“Sigh, that couple is causing trouble again.”

That’s when he heard another resident who came out near Hyeseong like him muttering.

“Do you know why the two are fighting?”

“Why else. The husband of that house is an alcoholic. What’s the use of Han selling fruits and earning money? That bastard husband wastes it all on alcohol every single day.”

The resident shook his body as if fed up. It seemed to be something that happened often.

“Don’t even watch, just go inside. They fight like that, causing a ruckus, and then go their own ways. Why did they come to the countryside? They’ll just keep seeing things like that. Hurry up and go to sleep.”

“Okay.”

The resident said he was done sleeping and went back inside. Hyeseong pondered for a moment. He was wondering if he should stop them since they were just raising their voices and fighting with each other.

But it didn’t seem good to intervene in a marital fight for nothing. Hyeseong was about to just leave, but suddenly Mrs. Han’s husband slapped her cheek hard.

Hyeseong, who was about to return home, quickly turned his steps.
