“The X-ray results fortunately show no major issues. You have severe bruising all over your body, but you don’t need to worry about internal bleeding or bone fractures. The cut on your forehead has been stitched up for now, so come periodically for disinfection. It doesn’t seem as deep as we thought, so it likely won’t leave a scar, but let’s keep an eye on it for now.”
The doctor explained Hyeseong’s condition in detail as he sat on the emergency room bed. Luckily, it seemed there were no serious problems.
“You can be hospitalized if you want and we can monitor your condition.”
“I’ll think about it.”
The doctor nodded and moved on to the next patient. Hyeseong, relieved of one worry, let out a deep sigh. Pain was felt in his struck abdomen, causing him to unknowingly furrow his brow.
“Hic… sob…”
At the sound of sniffling next to him, Hyeseong turned his head.
“Park Dohyun, how long are you going to cry? I said I’m fine. You heard what the doctor just said, right?”
“Yeah… but I was so shocked. Hyeseong.”
Dohyun sobbed and hugged Hyeseong. He continued shedding tears like a frightened child embracing his mother. Hyeseong knew well that Dohyun had a tender heart, so he couldn’t scold him further. Glances were thrown their way from people around, but Hyeseong just gently stroked Dohyun’s hair.
“Are you all calm now?”
Dohyun nodded, sniffling.
“What’s with your face.”
Dohyun pouted looking at Hyeseong. His pale face was all swollen and his lips were burst open in places.
“What about you. How did you know I was there? And the CEO…”
“Ah, I contacted him.”
Dohyun explained the whole situation. He was so worried that he called Ihyeok for help.
“Sorry for contacting the CEO on my own. But at that moment, the CEO was the only person I could think of to ask for help.”
“It’s fine. What are you sorry for. I’m alive thanks to that.”
Hyeseong got off the bed, patting the head of a dejected Dohyun. Dohyun’s eyes went wide at that.
“Hye- Hyeseong. You’re leaving?”
“Yeah. I’m not getting hospitalized. They said the test results are fine and what’s the point of staying here. And I need to go find the CEO too.”
Even after coming to the hospital, getting his wounds treated and taking all the tests, there was no word from Ihyeok.
Hyeseong started getting anxious. What if Ihyeok really got into an accident or something. Because of him, a person… Hyeseong shook his head vigorously. For now, he planned to go to the warehouse from earlier.
When leaving, he saw it was a storage attached to Doo-sung’s house where he had been tied up after being kidnapped. He roughly memorized the way, so he had to get there quickly to prevent any possible tragedy.
“Dohyun, can you stay with this Deputy Manager until he wakes up?”
Hyeseong’s gaze turned to the bed next to him. Shocked Pilhyun had fainted as soon as they reached the hospital. Luckily there were no major issues, so he was getting fluids and calming down.
“Oh, okay. Got it.”
It was when Hyeseong was walking towards the emergency room entrance. The automatic door opened and a familiar figure dashed inside.
“…”
Ihyeok, with blood splattered all over his hands, stared at Hyeseong while catching his breath.
“CEO…”
Before he could even speak. Ihyeok, who had walked up to Hyeseong in one stride with his long legs, grabbed his hand and led him to the emergency room desk. With his brow deeply furrowed, as if roughly grasping the situation.
“Wait a minute. CEO. Please let go.”
But Ihyeok was relentless. Even while being dragged, Hyeseong checked Ihyeok’s condition. Wondering if he was hurt anywhere, what happened with Kim Doo-sung.
“I’d like to hospitalize Cheon Hyeseong.”
“What? Oh, one moment please.”
When the tall man with blood on his hands and clothes spoke in a fierce manner, the startled nurse quickly began typing on the computer.
“Um, I don’t need to be hospitalized. Please let go. CEO, you… ugh.”
That’s when it happened. Ihyeok squeezed Hyeseong’s wrist that he was holding even tighter.
“I don’t want to get angry at you. But if you keep doing this, I think I might really lose it. So please just stay still. I’m begging you.”
At the warning-filled voice, Hyeseong also stopped trying to escape his grasp. He could tell from the chill in his voice that Ihyeok was already fuming mad.
Hyeseong bit his lip hard. Thanks to Ihyeok, he had escaped a life-or-death crisis, but he still hated this situation. Saying it was uncomfortable, that he would walk a new path on his own, yet in the end relying on Ihyeok’s help again.
Hyeseong’s hospitalization proceeded smoothly after that. He even ended up in a single room due to Ihyeok’s insistence, even though it was truly unnecessary. The nurse who helped Hyeseong change into a hospital gown and explained this and that glanced at Ihyeok’s state as she was about to leave and cautiously spoke.
“If the guardian is also injured…”
“It’s not my blood.”
“Ah…”
The nurse must have thought it wise not to inquire further, as she bowed her head and quickly left the room. Hyeseong had explained the situation to Dohyun via text. A reply came that Pilhyun had just woken up, so after calming him down he would take him home and come, but Hyeseong texted back that it was late so he should just sleep at home today.
Left alone in the spacious hospital room. Hyeseong pulled the blanket up to his head and turned his body to the opposite side. He didn’t want to face Ihyeok.
“I didn’t kill him.”
“…”
“I was late because I turned him over to the police.”
Ihyeok’s tired voice reached his ears.
“I didn’t kill him. You said you’d see me. Are you going to keep doing this?”
Hyeseong gripped the blanket tightly. He wanted to see him. He wanted to see his face and ask if he was hurt anywhere. But his actions differed from his thoughts. He didn’t want to show Ihyeok his face all swollen and burst, or this state of ending up imposing on the hospital.
He resented his past self who had been self-congratulatory and at ease thinking he had handled Kim Doo-sung’s matter well. He should have anticipated something like revenge. And he was ashamed that Ihyeok ended up finding out about this whole situation.
“…Got it. I’ll go. I’ll leave so rest comfortably. Unless you want to suffocate under the blanket.”
After hesitating for a moment, Ihyeok turned to leave. Ihyeok knew well. That Hyeseong had a lot of pride. That there was no point in arguing like this right now.
Only after hearing Ihyeok leave and the door close did Hyeseong lower the blanket. He stared blankly at where Ihyeok disappeared, then soon closed his eyes.
He didn’t want to think about anything today.
* * *
The next day, Dohyun came to visit the hospital room. After taking Pilhyun home last night and going home himself to take care of Boksil, Dohyun had packed and set out first thing in the morning.
Although Hyeseong was hospitalized due to Ihyeok’s insistence, he planned to be discharged soon without dragging it out, but Dohyun said he saw it in some drama and packed a change of clothes and even Hyeseong’s toothbrush.
Dohyun wasn’t the only one to visit Hyeseong’s room.
“Hyeseong-ssi!”
Pilhyun approached Hyeseong with a surprised face. Dohyun must have told him.
“Deputy Manager Lee, are you alright?”
“That’s what I should be asking. You’re really okay, right?”
Pilhyun examined Hyeseong’s state with a face that looked about to cry. Hyeseong reassured him that all the test results showed no issues.
“But I never even dreamed. That Kim Doo-sung was planning revenge…”
Pilhyun hardened his face as if he was still in shock from that time.
“Deputy Manager Lee, I’m sorry. For needlessly getting you involved in this.”
Seeing him like that, Hyeseong felt guilty for no reason. Because of him, an innocent person almost ended up in a grave. If Deputy Manager Lee had been seriously hurt, Hyeseong would have likely fallen into an even worse abyss than now.
“I’m really fine. Thanks to you, I’m unscathed. By the way, why is the person who saved us yesterday outside?”
When Pilhyun asked with his head tilted, Dohyun opened his eyes wide and shook his head at him to say no more.
But Pilhyun didn’t seem to pick up on Dohyun’s desperate motions.
“Seeing how he’s wearing the same clothes as yesterday, it seems he’s been here this whole time… He was just sitting in the waiting room chair?”
At that, Hyeseong’s eyes also widened slightly. Was Ihyeok outside? Moreover, wearing the same clothes as yesterday. Did he perhaps not go back and stayed outside since last night.
Hyeseong’s gaze naturally turned to Dohyun. His friend then smiled awkwardly.
“Ah, well I asked and he said he’d stay there! He told me not to mind him… Haha.”
Hyeseong unknowingly let out a sigh. He didn’t know why Ihyeok was doing this. What was so great about himself who only caused trouble and didn’t even say a word of thanks to the person who saved him.
“He must be really worried about you.”
Dohyun cautiously poked Hyeseong’s hand while gauging his reaction.
After that, the three of them chatted. Thanks to Dohyun’s crazy affability, he had already become friends with Pilhyun too. After about an hour, Pilhyun said he had something to do and left the room, saying he would drop by again next time.
Dohyun also briefly left his seat, saying he would feed Boksil and come back.
“…”
Once alone after everyone left, Hyeseong’s gaze turned back outside the room. Worried about Ihyeok sitting alone, Hyeseong finally opened the door and came out. But no matter how much he looked around, Ihyeok was nowhere to be seen in the chairs up front.
What, did he go home? Well, he probably couldn’t be away from work for long even because of this. Hyeseong, slightly disappointed, came all the way out of the hospital room and began wandering around.
That’s when he heard a familiar voice from the corner over there.
“…What did they say there.”
It was Ihyeok. Hyeseong naturally turned the corner of the hallway and slowly walked towards where the voice was coming from.
“Something personal came up for me so I can’t make time right now. I’ll personally contact DKD and apologize. Either way, I’m the one who arbitrarily broke the business trip schedule, so let’s reschedule to accommodate their circumstances as much as possible.”
Ihyeok ran his hand through his hair as if tired. Hyeseong’s brow furrowed at the contents of the call. If it was DKD, that was the British company that commissioned Taesung Hotel. Moreover, he broke the business trip schedule, could it be…
That’s when Ihyeok happened to turn his head and spotted Hyeseong standing by the corner.
“I’ll contact you again later.”
Ihyeok ended the call and slowly approached where Hyeseong was. Towards him who had a deep scowl on his face.
