The Country Life Diary of a Gangster's Secretary - c82

This chapter is paid for by Nemuru!

It was a bit of an impulsive decision. Pressing the bell at the bus stop he always got off at.

Since Ihyeok told him not to come, the original plan for today was to obediently go home, do some overdue cleaning, chat with his aunt about exams, and go to bed a bit early.

However, he couldn’t shake Ihyeok’s face that kept floating in his mind. After not seeing him the entire exam period, an absurd feeling of restlessness arose. No wonder people have a hard time quitting cigarettes. Feeling the fear of withdrawal symptoms, Hyeseong slowly entered the familiar alley.

If Ihyeok was busy, he understood. Then there shouldn’t be any problem with just dropping by to see his face for a moment.  If Ihyeok wasn’t inside, he could wait and then leave right after exchanging a few words. After rationalizing his actions, Hyeseong slowly moved his feet.

But he thought it would be good to let Ihyeok know, so he sent him a message first. That he’ll be at the office soon.

“Should I buy some coffee?”

Before entering the Taesung building, Hyeseong stopped by the nearby convenience store. He picked out the coffee brand Seongjin likes to drink and snacks for the others.  If he bought this stuff, Ihyeok probably wouldn’t welcome him and ask why he’s spending money, but Hyeseong still carefully selected the items.

“Fuck, those guys aren’t joking around. Are they really easier targets than Seohyeon?”

Seohyeon? At the familiar name, Hyeseong paused for a moment. Looking up, he saw two burly men in black suits and flashy leopard print shirts eating ramen at the food counter. They looked like gangsters even at a glance.

Seeing the thick gold necklace shining on their necks, Hyeseong thought of Baekdo. That ahjussi always wore something like that too. But they weren’t people he had seen in Taesung.

“Seeing how our guys all got mugged, it’s clear they’re no ordinary bastards. But what can we do? The boss is raising hell saying dealing with those Taesung punks comes first.”

At the word Taesung, Hyeseong’s eyes that were observing the two men widened. Deal with them? He wasn’t sure, but one thing was clear. This wasn’t a typical conversation.

Hyeseong deliberately pretended to pick out items and got a bit closer. To memorize their faces and tell Ihyeok even a little bit more of what he heard.

“We were excited to come up to Seoul but what the hell is this? Staking out and keeping watch like this is fucking depressing.”

Then the other man started slurping his ramen, saying since the boss says to do it, there’s no choice.

Hyeseong organized the information he could gather from that short conversation in his head. It seemed the two were members of an organization hostile to Taesung, and for some reason, they were currently staking out near the Taesung building with the purpose of surveillance.

Then could the target of their surveillance be…

‘Ahjussi?’

Hyeseong gulped and put the items back in their original places. Now that he had grasped the important details, he was going to head out first.

“But did you look into that? The boss told us to find out about some college student always hanging around the Taesung boss.”

“Ah shit. Right. Damn, now we even have to investigate some kid… Wait. I got the photo but… what was the name?”

The man rummaged through his pocket for his phone.

Hyeseong couldn’t help but be surprised to immediately realize the person they were referring to in that other topic was himself.

Why? Why were those people interested in him?

Anyway, the atmosphere wasn’t very good. Hyeseong quickly approached the door.

“Oh? Hyeseong, you’re leaving without buying anything?”

Just then, the convenience store part-timer noona who was organizing in the back noticed Hyeseong and spoke to him. After frequenting the Taesung office, Hyeseong had coincidentally become a regular at this store and started chatting with the part-timer who worked this shift.

“Ah, well… I have an urgent matter to attend to.”

Hyeseong gulped and bowed his head. At that moment, the skin-crawling sound of a chair being pulled back rang in Hyeseong’s ears.

Turning to look, the two men who had been chattering non-stop were now glaring at Hyeseong intently.

“Then noona, I’ll get going.”

Hyeseong hurriedly left the convenience store. He was practically running to get out of the alley when the alarm signaling the store door opening sounded again behind him.

“Hey kiddo. Wait a sec.”

Hyeseong looked around. Being a neglected alley to begin with, there weren’t many people passing by. In other words, if something happened, there was no one to ask for help.

Hyeseong slowly turned his head.

“Mind if we see you for a moment?”

“…Why?”

One man was walking over with a good-natured smile, while the other kept alternating between looking at his phone screen and Hyeseong.

“Your name is Cheon Hyeseong, right?”

“No. That’s not me.”

Hyeseong took slow steps back while looking at the two big men approaching. At the same time, he felt a vibration in his pocket.

But perhaps because he was extremely tense, he couldn’t bring himself to move his hand. All his focus was solely on getting away from them.

“Really?”

Just then, the man who had been intently checking his phone poked his colleague and gestured towards Hyeseong with his eyes.

In that momentary glance, Hyeseong had an intuition. To them, he was nothing more than prey.

Hyeseong immediately turned around and started running.

“Hey! It is him!”

“Grab him!”

Booming voices rang out, but Hyeseong ran without looking back. In any case, nothing good would come from getting caught by them, and now that he had a strong premonition it would cause trouble for Ihyeok, he couldn’t stay here.

The fortunate fact was that Hyeseong knew the geography of this alley quite well. After running for a bit, when a big alley came up, he immediately turned right into it.

“Stop right there if you know what’s good for you!”

He could feel the two men cursing and chasing right behind him. He wasn’t very confident in his running. He was always far from athletic to begin with. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say Hyeseong was currently running on his survival instincts that had kicked in.

Hyeseong desperately moved his feet quickly. He wanted to knock things over to obstruct them like in movies or dramas, but he didn’t even have the presence of mind for that. Reality was indeed different.

If he went a bit further, there would be an alley leading to the next neighborhood. Once he passed there, it was a busy street right away.

Hyeseong gritted his teeth and moved his legs.

‘There it is!’

Fortunately, it seemed he had found it well. As he was about to enter the alley, suddenly his head spun and his vision started circling in an instant. It was the aftereffects of not sleeping for several days.

“Ugh.”

Losing his balance, Hyeseong fell forward to the ground. As he was gasping for breath and trying to get up again, a large hand pressed down on his shoulder.

“Haa, fuck, the little runt makes things so annoying…”

The man who arrived first roughly pulled Hyeseong up by shoving his hand under his armpit.

“Hey Bangsik! Over here!”

Soon the other man, apparently named Bangsik, joined them, panting.

“Let go! Who are you people?”

“Stay still. If you don’t want to get hurt.”

Hyeseong struggled and resisted, but it wasn’t easy. They were both men but the difference in physique was huge. Even the strength binding his hands was too strong.

“Did you contact them?”

“Yeah. For now, they said to bring him. Guess they’re going to make a deal with this kid?”

“But who the hell is he? This little punk is going to be a bargaining chip?”

“Don’t know. Just do as told. Let’s go for now.”

Hyeseong’s face darkened rapidly. This can’t happen. If he gets dragged away here, something bad will definitely happen to Ihyeok too.

He just came because he wanted to see Ihyeok’s face, but he would hate to cause him trouble even if it killed him.

“I said let go! If you don’t, I’m reporting this to the police.”

Hyeseong twisted his body and resisted stubbornly.

Just then, he felt something sharp behind him. Goosebumps immediately rose on the back of his neck.

“Hey kid, you’re a college student, right? You need your fingers intact to study properly.”

Hyeseong turned his head. Then he saw the blade touching his lower back. A very sharp knife was showing off its form, glinting.

“Quietly come with us.”

The man named Bangsik was holding Hyeseong, while the other man was walking ahead making a call to someone.

Hyeseong thought. Of a way to somehow escape from here. A neglected, quiet alley. There were hardly any passersby, so being rescued by others was impossible.

Moreover, he couldn’t feel his phone in his pocket, perhaps because he dropped it. Of course, even if he had it, contacting someone would be difficult with his arms restrained.

The only method left was to escape from this grip himself.

Looking closely, the other man wasn’t paying any attention here as if he thought Hyeseong was just some insignificant college student, focusing only on his call. In other words, if he could somehow deal with the guy next to him, escape might be possible.

“Ah- Ahjussi. You’re really not going to kill me, right?”

Hyeseong deliberately pretended to tremble in fear and slowed his pace.

“Pl- please spare me. Where are you taking me?”

“Shut up and walk.”

“My, my arms hurt too much, I can’t walk. Please… loosen your grip a bit.”

Then Bangsik clicked his tongue as if annoyed.

Holding both of Hyeseong’s hands behind his back to drag him, Bangsik muttered about kids these days being so fragile and loosened his grip.

At that moment, Hyeseong shook off his hands with all his might.

“This- this punk!”

The surprised man widened his eyes and swung the hand holding the knife.

But Hyeseong didn’t stop there and kicked the man’s crotch accurately with his right foot. Even with a size difference, even with a disadvantage in strength, there was a surefire way to win.

If a man gets hit properly there, he wouldn’t be able to easily get up right away.

“Ugh.”

The man’s face turned deathly pale from the immense pain and he crumpled to the ground. Hyeseong started running again with all his strength.

“What! You little shit!”

At the loud yell, the man’s colleague immediately looked back, but Hyeseong had already left the alley.
