Chapter 3.2. I’ve Been Reincarnated As A Mob

With a mixture of doubt and fear, this was the moment when I suspected that this wasn’t Earth.

“See, adventurers recover magic stones and magical beast fur from dungeons, and sell them. Monsters are creatures that come out of dungeons and attack people if left unchecked. They are really scary.”

My mother pointed at a truck loaded with magic stones and fur. As I listened to the engine noise of the passing truck, my heart felt a sense of impending danger.

On that day, my common sense was shattered. In the evening, as I was absentmindedly watching TV, it seemed that I had been reincarnated into another world when a news report caught my attention.

There was a competition between Magic Academies, and something or other. The news showed people, dressed in what looked like powered suits, engaging in battles. It looked like power suits, and the women were wearing powered suits with quite exposure.

The announcer was excitedly talking about how top-tier adventurers took flying for granted, but I noticed something else. I realized it, and honestly, I wish I hadn’t.

In my previous life, I had plans to use my past experiences to become wealthy. My first plan was to diligently study the winning lottery numbers. I had accumulated numerous notebooks filled with average numbers.

But I realized something.

“Wait, this is the world of the Night of Magic!”

Sitting quietly in front of the TV, pretending to be a docile child, I suddenly stood up and let out a shocked scream.

The Night of Magic was a modern fantasy novel. It had a world where they had dungeons, and for some reason, materials like magic stones and monster parts sold at high prices. Adventurers had always been treated well.

Based on that background, the story revolves around the protagonist attending an academy and getting involved with beautiful girls one after another while protecting the seal of Demon God that was sealed in the academy, ultimately leading to the unsealing of Demon God, whom the protagonist had to defeat.

It followed a typical pattern, but when this novel was published, people considered those developments innovative, and it was completed with 25 volumes. Looking back, it was impressive that it didn’t get delayed. I was quite moved by it, given I had never seen a completed fantasy school novel before.

In my previous life, it had ended around 5 years before I died. I had bought volumes 1-10 and 25. I got bored with it in the middle and left it alone, but I couldn’t help but wonder what happened in the final chapter, so I bought it. It’s a common occurrence in long series.

This series was low fantasy and popular, running for 5 anime seasons. It even became a game. The game was an open-world RPG where you could create a character separate from the novel’s protagonists. With interactions with the novel’s main characters, it became a popular RPG not only among fans but also gamers. I was addicted to it myself.

I realized that I had entered the world of a novel. It was a pattern I often saw in novels. Moreover, I had never heard of my name. Since I had watched the final episode of every anime I had seen, I knew I wasn’t a recurring side character. I didn’t have much memory of character names. So I couldn’t be sure, but I remembered those characters because they were cute. I could confidently say that there was no guy with a face like mine.

I was a complete mob character. It was the kind of situation people often see in novels. I had become one of those who claimed to have been reincarnated as a mob character. My future was shrouded in darkness. After all, in this world, monsters occasionally appeared and killed mobs. I couldn’t bear the thought of screaming and dying in such a role.

“But you know, there are situations where mobs become the protagonist’s rival or even become one of the heroines.”

It was a pattern where mobs could become strong if they were also reincarnated. They could become the protagonist’s good rival or, in cases where the protagonist was also a reincarnated person, they would often become the ruthless protagonist and snatch the main character’s position.

The common scenario was the mob and one of the heroines becoming close and becoming a couple. It was an odd development where one would wonder what a mob was. A mob protagonist would become strong through incredible effort. Let’s consider that scenario.

But I’m in a world where monsters roamed, and I didn’t know when I’d be killed, with suspicious dark organizations causing terrorism on top of that. Moreover, my house was close to an academy. The possibility of getting involved was extremely high.

There was no choice but to become strong, right? So I decided to work hard because the likelihood of dying otherwise was extremely high.

Furthermore, I might be able to become the lover of the main character’s heroine. After all, the main character was liked by several heroines, and my preferences usually aligned with the sub-heroines. There wouldn’t be any competition.

And if I became an adventurer, I could become rich. High-ranking adventurers could earn tens of millions in a single job.

I decided that becoming strong might be better than studying the winning numbers for the lottery. I would fight alongside the main character to repel terrorists at the Third Academy, get kidnapped during the school trip, and subdue Demon God. It sounded like an enjoyable storyline.

Even though I was young, I was determined to become strong.

“But how do I train?”

First, I had to figure out how to train. I sighed. But I was only 5 years old. So I could manage with a good start from here.

However, it wasn’t as easy as I thought. I longed to become an adventurer, my eyes sparkling as I asked my parents about training methods, but it turned out to be things like running marathons or helping with household chores.

Of course, it would be like that. My parents, who were mob characters, were also mobs. They weren’t adventurers. If that was the case. They couldn’t possibly know how to train.

I was already surrounded by ominous clouds, wondering what to do next.
