Chapter 36.1. More Friends!

-Miu’s POV-

Darkness reigns in the slums. The old man wanders around there, drunk. Occasionally, someone tries to attack him, but they all bounce off his first blow and he crumples to the ground.

When an enemy attacks, [Material Reflect] is instantly placed before the attacking enemy.

It’s automatically put up only once at the beginning of the battle. [Material Reflect] is a magic that causes all enemies to have their attacks reflected only once when they attack physically. It was not so good in the game, but it’s useful in real life.

“Aegis Crown, you’re showing the effect as expected, yay!”

From the space comes the voice of a pretty girl. However, her tone is rough.

“A sacred artifact is a mysterious thing. That’s an interesting divine artifact.”

The old man, scratching his head and not wondering when he hears the voice, lights up his ship’s eyes with the light of wisdom.

“Also, the effect of the young lady’s [Equipment Effect Off] is interesting.”

“Because if Odin dressed as a samurai, it would ruin the atmosphere, wouldn’t it? [Equipment Effect Off] is useful because it transfers the effect to Odin’s equipment. People won’t know you’re wearing the Aegis Crown.”

The space distorts, and a girl on an eight-legged horse appears. Her robes and hood conceal her figure.

Whoever she is, it’s the beautiful girl Miu, you know. Don’t tell my parents I’m out at night. They’ll be sad to hear that I’ve become a delinquent.

Oops, [Hide II].”

I’m going to [Hide] if I’m not careful. The figure disappeared with Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse as if melting into space. It dissolves after a certain number of steps. That’s [Hide II].

“Hmm, God’s power is incredible. I think I’m looking into the abyss now.”

“I choose not to think about it. It’s fine as long as it’s suitable. As long as it’s usable, it’s fine.”

Old man Odin is curious about [Aegis Crown] and [Equipment Effects Off] settings. If anything, he’s more interested in [Equipment Effects Off]. Well, it’s a mysterious game specification. I can see that.

In the game, when you change the equipment, the character’s appearance changes to that of the person wearing the equipment. But some players don’t like that because it ruins their image, which is why there was [Equipment Effect Off]. With this, the character’s appearance does not change even if they change equipment.

It’s intended for fans who don’t like it when a character in a novel wears a loincloth. When used in reality, the skill’s performance gets transferred to Odin’s hat. I have no idea how it looks. When I unequip it, it reverts to [Aegis Crown].

By the way, I won’t use panties. I don’t plan to use it because only gentlemen will be pleased.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found this setting. Even though I’m wearing iron armor, it looks like I’m in a robe. You can’t turn off effects on weapons, so even though you’ve equipped a longsword, it doesn’t look like a dagger.

Odin wonders about this specification and is trying to research it. I know what you’re thinking, but I want to use it. I press the switch, and the game starts up. That’s all I need.

Hearing me say that, Odin laughs. It’s Odin, the Great Mage. He’s the most famous god in Norse mythology. But Odin is a magician who calls himself a creator god because they allowed him to do that. He is indeed a god, but Odin is not his real name. What would you say his real name is?

Odin is an old man who seeks wisdom and even gives up his life.

By the way, he’s my companion. He’s an old man who I can befriend by praying to the Norse god statue in [My Room].

To be more precise, he’s one of the 500 yen Norse Gods set. That is, he is a companion I can get for a fee.

In order not to destroy the novel’s image, the main characters’ levels in the game version of The Night of Magica are fixed according to the story progression. But this doesn’t help them defeat backstage bosses or conquer dungeons of extreme difficulty. I don’t want the protagonists, who are ultimately fixed at level 70, even if they have cheat skills.

So what to do is recruit random companions at the adventurer’s bar, but I guess it was to force the main characters to use it. The main character has poor basic abilities. The more you level up, the more different they will be from the main characters. The only other person with higher basic abilities was the player characters. It’s a common thing in games.

So I cried about paying to lift the level limit, raised my level all over the place, and beat the game solo.

But after a while, the management company must have felt good that the game was selling well. These days, turn-based RPGs have to be well-known to sell well.

So, they released a set of companions as a chargeable item. Their basic abilities are high, and although they have fixed jobs, their unique skills are also strong. If anything, they were stronger than the novel’s main characters.

What’s more, they saved me the trouble of leveling up, and the level was dependent on the player character’s level. I had to buy it. The management company, you’re too cunning.

The companions I get are various, but they’re in [My Room]. Was the setting to summon them from the other world? No. Was it to give a body to the shadow of gods to use? Well, it doesn’t matter either way.

I guess the management set the came so players could only summon companions from level 15, because of the game balance breaker.

That is Odin, this one-eyed old man.
