Chapter 38.1. Chimera Extermination
-Miu’s POV-
Miu glares at her opponent, shaking her head in anger. It seems to be a group called Chimera. Even though it’s a slum, it doesn’t seem to be a half-baked organization because it has magicians.
I try not to look like me, but I still have to be careful. But that doesn’t calm my anger.
“I’ll exterminate anyone who isn’t here, too.”
It’s me, Miu-chan the pest exterminator. I’m going to exterminate them all. My gut is churning, and wobbly. Maximum firepower, destroy all the bad guys. I can’t let those who feed on children live.
Seeing Miu trembling with anger, Baphomet, on the contrary, regains his composure. There are two opponents. Even if they are magicians, they’re not using magic armor because of their appearance. He has an overwhelming advantage over them.
“It seems you came to help us with a green idea, but can you beat this number of people? Can you beat this [Magic Armor Sylph Type 22]?”
The man who calls himself Magician bumps up and shows the latest model of mass-produced light armor, the Sylph Type 22. Without magic armor, even a magician would be no match for him.
Miu looks around her, and she ponders. Close to 30 people. There are about three magicians.
At first, I wanted to use [Hide II] to infiltrate and see how things went. My [Hide II] can hide the whole party, of course. Odin refused, but if he didn’t refuse. It would be easy to get inside. You’d have to be an estimated 30 levels or higher to see through my [Hide].
But I couldn’t stand the way they treated the kids.
“For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was in The Night of Magic. Damn it.”
That’s when I realized how different it was from my previous life. That’s where the common sense of reality merges with the common sense of fiction. The man using children as bait to defeat the mithril eaters? Yeah, I know. It’s a dark pattern of the dreaded template.
In my previous life, if someone did something like this daily, even in the slums of some country, there would surely be an uproar. Especially here in Japan, right?
But the reality in this world of the magical night is a little different. The behavior of the wicked sometimes sticks out. [Yggdrasil] and this scoundrel are just two examples.
The Night of Magic is a popular novel. It’s an old classic. The point is that it’s old. There are battles, romantic comedies, and a dark atmosphere.
A lot of people had a hard time with the original. The heroine is often helped out by opportunism. But there were mob people who looked like heroine candidates who would normally die early.
There were. Those people almost always die. So, although The Night of Magic was a popular novel that was made into an anime and then into a game, many events got cut. That’s why there are discrepancies if you’re me, who got bored with the novel halfway through.
The original novel’s author knew that the merciless deaths would be moving, cruel, and popular. It was impossible for the author, who is always thinking about popularity, not to draw such a delicious situation.
The effect of this is the situation is before me. They’re scumbags in the slums who use children as fodder for their monsters and collect materials.
It happened in the game, too. When you receive an event, the client tells you that “these people get sacrificed,” they briefly show a scene with a pile of corpses, and the hero’s face turns bitter, saying that it’s terrible.
The children playing with those corpses are right in front of me. I have to save them, don’t we? We’re the same ‘Mob’. Let’s change the corpse role.
Miu bared her double teeth like a wild beast and muttered quietly.
-Fight-
My physical ability jumps up by selecting the -Fight- command. My body is filled with mana, transforming me from a mere girl into a powerful warrior.
“I’ll show you how stupid you are to come here without magic armor! Mine is the latest model, you know!”
Wind erupts from the body of the man who calls himself Baphomet, and the armor of the [Magic Armor Sylph Type 22] deployed by his mana power. The wizards surrounding us also deployed their “Magic Armor,” which seemed to have been soiled and used up, and readied their weapons. The man in front of me has a rapier. The other two have wands.
And there are a lot of hoodlums.
“How many loans did you get? You’re going to hell in loan hell!”
It looks brand new and shiny, it looks like he just bought it, but I’m going to thrash it away soon. I will not forgive you.
“Odin! Defeat the mooks!”
“Mm, okay.”
At my words, Odin raises one hand, his one eye glowing with blue ghostly light, and casts a spell.
[Heroic Spirit Sorting].
Odin instantly draws a white, glowing magic circle on the palm of his hand, then emits a flash of light. The enemy squints in alarm at the dazzling light.
“I’m blinded! You guys, don’t let them get away!”
Baphomet utters a word of warning and alerts his men. He thought his men would answer. I had expected it.
But the sound of a thud followed by a fall echoes through the air, a dubious look, a flash of light stops, and the goat-head opens his eyes.
Then, his eyes widen in surprise.
“Hey! Why the hell are you guys sleeping!”
All his men, except the magicians, were lying on the floor. They all collapsed on their stomachs.
“A [Sleep]! You’re a master of status ailments magic if you can use it over such a wide area!”
Staring at Odin, who had used magic, Baphomet figured from the range that the old man was a user of status ailments magic. He’s quite a nuisance if he’s a status ailments magician. Even with magic armor on, you can take some terrible damage.
But Odin stroked his white beard and answered in a bored tone.
