Volume 1 Chapter 9: Counselor
“Attention! At ease! Roll call!”
“Everyone is here, let’s start with a two-lap run! Keep up and maintain formation!”
In the afternoon, the sunlight became even more glaring and intense. The air on the sports field felt as if it had been warped by the heat, and as soon as you stepped into the sunlight, your skin quickly started to sweat, making you feel sticky and uncomfortable.
Due to his height, Ning Chu became one of the leaders in this formation. He had a stern instructor by his side, which made him behave and focus on running.
Fortunately, his stomachache had lessened considerably in the afternoon, and it was no longer a hindrance.
At lunchtime, he had eaten a good meal, with two meat dishes, one vegetable dish, and a glass of yogurt. He had eaten to the point of almost feeling stuffed and had even taken a nap.
As long as he ate well and rested well, he had confidence that he wouldn’t embarrass himself by being the first one to faint while standing at attention.
After two laps, Ning Chu’s breathing became rapid.
As the order to rest was given by the instructor, he sat down on the grass of the sports field, massaging his sore legs and taking a few gulps from his bottle of mineral water.
“Ah, I’m so tired,” Wang Jie, a self-proclaimed otaku who never exercised, complained incessantly as he nearly lost his breath after the two laps. “Why are they making us do this early in the morning? Don’t they want us to survive?”
Ning Chu gave him a glance but was immediately caught by something.
Wang Jie shuffled over to Ning Chu and asked, “How are you feeling?”
“Much better, it’s not a problem anymore.”
“Oh,” Wang Jie sighed, “If I had a stomachache, I would definitely ask for a few days off.”
“I heard that military training comes with academic credits. If you take a leave this year, you’ll have to make it up with the freshmen next year.”
“Is that true?”
Ning Chu remained noncommittal, but that’s how it worked in the university he attended in his previous life.
During the break, he scanned the sports field with his gaze, eventually stopping at an energetic girl in the adjacent class.
Hmm… he thought he should find a girlfriend.
In a world where high-quality girls were everywhere, aside from disrupting the plot for his own benefit, it wouldn’t hurt to have a girlfriend and enjoy life, right?
But that girl seemed to be around 1.6 meters tall, a bit taller than him.
Short girls usually had a cute and youthful look, and although he knew that the girls on the sports field were all over eighteen, it wasn’t like the world of anime. He felt a strange sense of guilt about pursuing a girl with a “loli” look.
Moreover, why did he suddenly have an extra layer of soft flesh on his chest when he took a shower at noon…
Suddenly, he remembered the sensation on his chest while showering, and his thoughts about dating quickly dissipated. He lay back on the grass, staring blankly at the clear blue sky.
In the first week of his world travel, he had little red beans on his chest, and now, it seemed like some sudden growth had turned his little red beans into dumplings.
There must be some connection between these events, right?
“Why is the counselor here?”
The conversation nearby drew Ning Chu’s attention back. He turned around and immediately saw the counselor approaching with a cardboard box in hand.
Scenes from the novel about the counselor flashed in Ning Chu’s mind, leaving him with a very negative impression of the counselor. He muttered under his breath, “A hypocrite…”
“Come on, I’ve bought some water and bread for you all. It’s in the box,” the counselor’s smile was exceptionally sunny, and his gentle and approachable appearance quickly gained the favor of the students. “I’ll leave the box here. Feel free to take some during breaks. Let’s have a good military training, and after that, we’ll have a meal together to replenish our strength.”
Yawning, Ning Chu discreetly observed the counselor while maintaining a straight posture. He watched as the counselor approached the instructor and engaged in a hushed conversation with him, but he couldn’t hear what they were saying.
He remembered that the counselor’s plotline was later in the story, so there shouldn’t be anything strange being planned at this point.
Hey! If the counselor is still a normal person and not a pervert, does that mean there’s hope? Just like Zhang Shaoqing?
If there’s no hope, why not send the counselor to prison in advance, preventing his storyline from happening!
This idea suddenly occurred to Ning Chu.
He didn’t need to wait for the plot to unfold before sabotaging it. He could take proactive measures and deal with key characters in advance.
To achieve this, the original novel that came with him in his computer was crucial!
Just as he had this somewhat unusual idea, Ning Chu suddenly shivered. He looked up and saw that the instructor and the counselor were looking at him and seemingly discussing something about him.
Are they talking about me?
I haven’t turned into a girl because of the storyline yet! Why are they staring at me!
Could it be that they’re into both men and women? Are they that perverted?!
Ning Chu kept a vigilant eye on the counselor. His casual sitting posture had straightened up, and his muscles tensed involuntarily, as if he were a vigilant cat.
Fortunately, the counselor’s gaze didn’t linger on him for too long. After conversing with the instructor for about a minute, the counselor walked straight to the front of the students.
“Tomorrow evening at 5 PM, we’ll have a class meeting in Classroom D203. Students with ideas for running as class representatives can start preparing in advance.”
Only fools become class representatives~
Especially positions like class president and vice president, where you gain no benefits and are just running errands and potentially offending people.
Ning Chu glanced at his three roommates, only to find them all buried in their phones, looking completely disinterested.
Military training continued.
After the initial two laps of warm-up, it was time for the long and boring standing-at-attention exercises.
Their location was at the edge of the sports field, with green trees casting a shadow nearby. Unfortunately, only their feet could find shade, while their heads were exposed to the increasingly scorching sun.
“Ning Chu, do you want to become a class representative? I heard it can earn you extra credits, and scholarships become easier to get,” whispered Wen Yang from behind, taking advantage of the instructor’s inattention.
Ning Chu was about to shake his head when a sudden idea crossed his mind.
Since he wanted to get close to the counselor to find out if he was a pervert or not…
Being a class representative could be a good cover identity.
Moreover, he wasn’t a girl in the storyline yet, so there shouldn’t be any danger in getting closer to the counselor.
He didn’t think too much and nodded slightly.
“You want to run too?”
Too?
Ning Chu turned curiously to look at Wen Yang and was about to gauge his reaction when the instructor lightly tapped the back of his head and sternly reprimanded, “Why can’t you stay still!”
Ning Chu turned pale and quickly closed his mouth, not daring to say another word.
