Volume 1 Chapter 27: False Alarm
After being frightened for a while, the tension among the trio of three people eased considerably. Zhang Shaoqing shared stories of wild mandarin ducks he had heard with a playful smile, while Wen Yang also wore a calm smile. Only Ning Chu’s face was full of disappointment.
It wasn’t the timid behavior of these two that disappointed him, but rather his heartfelt reflection on the world that he had written.
They haven’t been here for that long, and yet they’ve already encountered two pairs of wild lovers…
In his past life, although he occasionally heard of people encountering wild mandarin ducks around him, it only happened once or twice. But now, within a day’s time, they’ve encountered two.
Are the people here all unable to afford hotels?
Although they were a bit abnormal, they were all innocent thrill-seekers, not doing anything morally wrong. At least they knew to find a discreet corner. Even if they were caught by the police, at most they would be detained.
Ning Chu couldn’t help but sigh.
He used to naively think that the people here were all normal…
“I remember my high school classmate once encountered such a situation while buying clothes, in broad daylight. It’s really something,” Zhang Shaoqing turned his head, just happening to see Ning Chu sighing, “What’s wrong? Has your pure heart been tainted?”
“Not really…”
If Ning Chu could be considered pure, then he wouldn’t be writing Hentai-themed stories, let alone coming to such a strange world.
“Why are you sighing? I’ve never seen someone as shy as you,” Zhang Shaoqing gave him a glance and said confidently, “Who gets scared watching a movie?”
He intentionally elongated his tone, emphasizing the phrase “gets scared watching a movie.”
You weren’t even watching a serious movie!
If it were with close friends, it would be fine, but Ning Chu had only known them for a few weeks, at most they were just acquaintances.
“Stop messing around and focus,” Wen Yang, holding his phone for illumination, interrupted their bickering.
“Who said anything about ghosts? You’re probably just scared by the noises of those couples in the bushes,” Zhang Shaoqing muttered, “Just like we were earlier…”
“Anyway, let’s just walk around the teaching building and if we don’t find anything, we’ll go back.”
Zhang Shaoqing waved the wrench in his hand and shouted, “If we really encounter a ghost, I’ll smash its head with this wrench!”
“Who knows, maybe someone else already ran away,” Ning Chu ruthlessly mocked them and boasted of his own bravery, “Look at you guys, you look manly but act like cowards!”
Although at the time, his head was blank, and his legs were stiff, and he didn’t react immediately.
“Heh,” Zhang Shaoqing admitted defeat, the first time he voluntarily conceded, crossing his arms and remaining silent.
The suspenseful atmosphere from before now turned into a light-hearted one. Zhang Shaoqing was full of dirty jokes he had heard somewhere, while Wen Yang, the innocent virgin, remained quiet, just listening. Ning Chu subconsciously remembered those dirty jokes, preparing to write them into his book—
Wait a minute! I’m literally in the book right now!
He had been intermittently writing this Hentai-themed story for several years, often feeling unsatisfied after reading some excellent works and then writing his own version for self-entertainment.
This resulted in this world becoming a modern urban plane filled with all sorts of non-human beings mixed with humans.
The trio casually walked up the stairs to the second floor, faintly hearing sweet and breathy sighs coming from somewhere.
Ning Chu remained expressionless, even feeling like laughing a little.
Indeed, there were no normal people in this world!
“If this place really had ghosts, they’d be awkward ghosts,” Zhang Shaoqing quipped, “Thinking of getting thrills with you, but it turns out we’re just third wheels, huh?”
Perhaps hearing his voice, the commotion on the second floor instantly disappeared.
Wen Yang sighed helplessly. “I told you there are no ghosts. You scared that couple away.”
“We might as well stay in the dorm and play games.”
Listening to their exchange, Ning Chu relaxed somewhat, but still kept an eye on his surroundings, using his phone to illuminate every corner.
He wondered if the female ghost would be as beautiful as he described in his book.
Perhaps she wasn’t even the same female ghost?
What if it was a man?!
His mind was filled with all sorts of nonsense, but suddenly, he noticed a fleeting figure at the end of the corridor in the distance.
A chill ran down his spine, and he instinctively grabbed Wen Yang’s hand, pointing to the end of the corridor. “There’s something over there!”
“Don’t scare me,” Wen Yang calmly looked in the direction of his pointing finger. “Let’s go and take a look.”
“Haha, how come you’re acting like a coward now?” Zhang Shaoqing teased Ning Chu as he led the way forward.
Arriving at the end of the corridor, Ning Chu nervously looked around and found it was the entrance to the second-floor restroom.
Snap!
The three of them were startled, and they all looked down to see Wen Yang stepping into a puddle of water.
A puddle of water in front of the restroom door seemed quite normal.
“Damn! You scared me!” Zhang Shaoqing cursed and walked towards the restroom grumbling.
They walked away, “I’ll go to the bathroom— never mind, I’ll go later.”
“Let’s go, let’s go, let’s check out the third floor.”
Ning Chu doubted whether the figure he had just seen was a ghost, but it made him more timid. He followed behind Wen Yang gloomily, regretting why he had gotten involved in this mess.
But if he didn’t come, and Wen Yang got ravaged by ghosts, wouldn’t all his previous efforts be in vain?
If he did come… at least he could see how Wen Yang got eaten, and there would be some closure to his efforts.
The teaching building had four floors in total. The three of them circled around all four floors, took a look at the rooftop, and then somewhat disappointedly chose to leave.
Wen Yang probably figured out the situation, speculating that it was probably some timid student who got scared by the wild lovers late at night, which led to the school being informed and rumors of ghosts spreading.
But if there were really ghosts, why weren’t those lovers scared?
“Let’s go back, what a letdown!” Back on the brightly lit road, Zhang Shaoqing suddenly became brave again, boasting, “Today, that ghost was lucky not to run into us!”
“Yeah, that’s right,” Ning Chu replied absentmindedly.
“What do we do next?” He turned to Wen Yang and asked.
“Report it to the school, just tell them what happened,” Wen Yang shrugged helplessly. “Ask the security to patrol more at night, and there probably won’t be any more ghost rumors in the future.”
“It’s a pity there’s no real ghost, otherwise my uncle could make some money.”
This way of dealing with it relieved Ning Chu. He was most afraid that Wen Yang would be stubborn and wouldn’t give up until he found ghosts.
It was a false alarm. He had thought he had triggered a demon-exorcising plot!
The white figure he had just seen still gave him the creeps, and he kept looking back at the teaching building from time to time, feeling uneasy.
There were more people this time, so maybe the female ghost couldn’t handle the three of them and didn’t show up. But what about next time?
He absolutely couldn’t let Wen Yang come to the teaching building alone in the future!
Ning Chu comforted the disappointed Wen Yang who had lost the bet: “It’s okay. If there really were ghosts, the three of us might not be able to go back tonight.”
“That’s true.”
One had to admit that the current innocent Wen Yang was indeed quite naive.
If it were him, even if there were no ghosts, he would still pretend to be a god to make some money from the school!
“Let’s go, let’s buy some late-night snacks on the second floor of the cafeteria.” From afar, Zhang Shaoqing could see the brightly lit cafeteria and called out to the two of them, “My treat, how about chicken steak and milk tea?”
Ning Chu suddenly found this antagonist much more pleasing: “I want to eat scallion pancakes!”
