Chi Xiaoman sat at the head of the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling light.
After a while, she glanced at Qiao Ning from the corner of her eye. Qiao Ning had draped the lower half of his body with a thin tablecloth and sat on a chair, motionless, staring at the potted plant in front of him, as if the plant would bloom.
They seemed like a couple who had grown tired of each other, regretting their affair ten years ago, and falling into self-doubt and disgust as they became middle-aged.
Chi Xiaoman moved her eyes away and covered her face with her hands in disbelief. Who could understand her shame and regret? She really wanted to smash a bottle on Qiao Ning’s head to make him forget everything.
After about thirty minutes, Qiao Ning coughed a few times and said in his usual voice, “I’m going to take a shower.”
“Oh, then hurry,” Chi Xiaoman replied in a faint voice. She leaned against the head of the bed and even reached out to grab the remote control and turn on the TV. “I also want to wash.”
Qiao Ning stood up from the chair and walked past the foot of the bed with long strides. Chi Xiaoman’s eyes uncontrollably glanced at his lower body, then moved up to his legs after he passed by.
The sound of the bathroom door locking awakened Chi Xiaoman, who angrily slapped her face.
What was she looking at?
The sound of water kept ringing from the bathroom. Her hangover made Chi Xiaoman’s head ache slightly. She lay down and unknowingly, her eyelids grew heavy.
When Qiao Ning, wrapped in a towel and steam, came out of the bathroom, she couldn’t open her eyes and could only hear the footsteps getting closer.
Qiao Ning propped himself up on the bed, leaned over, and asked her in a deep voice, “Are you hungry? Should I buy some breakfast?”
“I’m hungry, and my throat hurts,” Chi Xiaoman turned over, furrowed her brow, and shrunk into the blanket. “Get me a vitamin drink.”
Chi Xiaoman couldn’t wake up after falling asleep. When she opened her eyes again, the sun was already setting.
The sound from the TV was very low, buzzing. The loudest noise came from beside the bed. Qiao Ning had already changed his clothes and was leaning against the head of the bed, watching variety shows and laughing occasionally.
Chi Xiaoman was already dizzy from hunger. Qiao Ning saw her waking up and handed her half-eaten ice cream to her lips, saying, “If I hadn’t seen you breathing, I would have thought you were dead!”
Chi Xiaoman took a bite and shivered from the cold. “I’m so thirsty, give me some water to drink!”
Qiao Ning got off the bed, took out food and drinks from a plastic bag, and even one of his T-shirts.
“It should fit…” Qiao Ning gestured to the size and pointed to his underwear draped over the back of the chair under the air conditioning. “It’s been washed, it should be dry!”
Chi Xiaoman was very grateful. “You’ve worked hard!”
Qiao Ning went to the bathroom, brought her a towel, and said with a heavy tone, “It was okay, not too hard. It was much better than the incident in June!”
That day, when Chi Xiaoman had a conflict with He Xuanmei, she had drunk so much that she didn’t dare go home. When Qiao Ning came to pick her up, she vomited all over him. The scene was so miserable that even onlookers couldn’t bear to look at it, let alone the victim, Qiao Ning.
“I’ve already changed. Don’t mention that dark history,” Chi Xiaoman came out from under the blanket, wrapped the towel around her body from under her armpits, and threatened Qiao Ning, “If you mention it again, be careful that I vomit on you again!”
Qiao Ning innocently blinked his eyes, watching the bathroom door in front of him close. He weakly picked up a piece of chocolate and said, “Don’t skip meals, be careful of fainting…”
After ten minutes, the bathroom door suddenly swung open. Chi Xiaoman, with her long hair covering her face, knelt on the ground and gasped for breath. “Don’t look at me!”
Qiao Ning: “…”
He rubbed his temples with his fingers.
Some people were lucky enough to survive into adulthood. They should really thank God for his favour.
After some struggling, Chi Xiaoman finally dressed up in an oversized short-sleeved shirt, swinging her beautiful hair, and became a stunning beauty again.
A self-proclaimed “beauty” in front of the mirror.
The sun was scorching outside, but since they had already extended their stay in the hotel, the two of them stayed until the sun was about to set before packing their things and leaving.
As for the small incident of “acting out of character” after drinking, both of them seemed to have lost their memory and completely removed it from their lives.
