Shogakukan's listing reveals that the prequel will feature five original short stories focusing on characters Frieren, Fern, Stark, Kanne/Lawine, and Aura. This release will coincide with the 13th volume of the original manga series.

The "Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End" manga, written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday since April 2020. Viz Media, which has licensed the manga, recently released the 10th volume. The plot of this volume involves Macht, one of the Seven Sages of Destruction, who turns an entire city into gold, leading Frieren and her companions into a challenging confrontation.

An anime adaptation by Madhouse is currently airing, with the 26th episode set to release on March 8. Directed by Keiichiro Saito, with a script by Tomohiro Suzuki, music by Evan Call, and character design by Reiko Nagasawa, the series is streaming on Crunchyroll. The story follows the elven mage Frieren as she navigates human mortality, takes on a new apprentice, and strives to fulfill her old friends’ dying wishes.
