Chapter 9

The assistant stared at Jiang Yucheng as if he had seen a ghost.

Qin Qiaohan coughed, explaining that Chi Jing was here to wake him up as part of a task assigned by the production team.

Chi Jing steadied himself and let out a sneer. “You are cracking jokes this early in the morning.”

Jiang Yucheng’s eyes became more alert. “Let me change clothes. Shanwang, prepare an extra breakfast.”

The extra portion was obviously for Chi Jing.

Assistant Shanwang responded with an “Okay” and turned to arrange breakfast.

“Any dietary restrictions?” Jiang Yucheng asked, looking down at Chi Jing.

Chi Jing, too sleepy to hear clearly, yawned, and a tear from his drowsiness slid down his cheek, stopping at the tear mole under his eye.

Jiang Yucheng’s gaze lingered on the tear mole for a few seconds before he asked again if he had any dietary restrictions.

He shook his head. “Anything is fine, thank you.”

He turned to give Jiang Yucheng the room and went to sit on a small sofa by the floor-to-ceiling window to rest.

Qin Qiaohan and the staff, seeing this, didn’t disturb him. They quietly found a perfect camera angle to film him.

The cameraman, while adjusting the lens calmly, was inwardly screaming with excitement. This angle! This composition! It’s perfect! I’m the Greek god of cinematography!

When Chi Jing woke up again, Jiang Yucheng was sitting across from him.

A small table filled with breakfast had been set up between them.

“Awake? Let’s eat,” he said, putting away his phone.

Chi Jing’s gaze sluggishly swept over Jiang Yucheng’s face and then his clothes. Today, he a casual short-sleeve shirt from his endorsed brand and plain black cargo pants, suitable for a travel variety show.

A simple outfit, but it looked exceptionally good on him.

Chi Jing sat up straight and stretched.

He turned to ask Qin Qiaohan, “What time is it?”

Jiang Yucheng answered instead, “It’s 7:30. We need to head to the airport after breakfast.”

It only took half an hour to get from the hotel to the airport.

Chi Jing unwrapped a pair of disposable chopsticks and sat cross-legged on the sofa, eating breakfast with him.

After breakfast, he returned to the car arranged by the production team.

He played with his phone for a bit before the car door opened again.

He turned his head to see Jiang Yucheng getting in and sitting next to him.

Chi Jing: ?

After getting in, Jiang Yucheng tapped the back of the driver’s seat. “Let’s go.”

With a press of the accelerator, the car hit the main road.

Chi Jing was even more puzzled, but he didn’t mind his company and continued playing his game.

As they approached the airport, Jiang Yucheng suddenly spoke up. “Add me on WeChat.”

Chi Jing had just cleared a level and quickly switched to WeChat to show his friend QR code. The movements were fluid and swift.

Jiang Yucheng chuckled, raised his phone to scan the code, and added him as a friend.

A moment later, he received a notification that he had been added to a group chat with seven members.

Upon entering the group, he saw Shen Yixing tagging everyone, providing the airport gate details and some luggage check-in instructions.

Qin Qiaohan, sitting in the back, gasped and quickly covered her mouth. She was shocked by Chi Jing’s behavior.

In the entertainment industry, it was usually the lower-status person who added the higher-status person’s WeChat. Especially with Jiang Yucheng, it was unheard of for him to take the initiative.

But thinking about it, this behavior seemed natural for Chi Jing.

She clenched her fists, feeling excited.

She was Director Lu Tao’s niece, a recent college graduate placed in the show by her parents.

Initially disliking the boring job, Chi Jing’s presence changed her mind.

She was now curious about how far his career could go.

At 8 AM, the airport wasn’t very crowded yet, but Chi Jing noticed a large group of fans outside.

Of course, they weren’t his fans.

They were Jiang Yucheng’s.

He prepared to get out, but Jiang Yucheng blocked his way.

“Wait a moment.” Jiang Yucheng grabbed his wrist and pulled him back into his seat.

Then, Chi Jing found himself being forced to wear sunglasses.

“Alright.”

He accepted the sunglasses without complaint and got out of the car casually.

Shanwang, who had gotten out earlier, helped with the luggage. Chi Jing thanked him and headed straight for the airport.

Jiang Yucheng was swarmed by fans behind him, while he took a detour around the crowd.

But he didn’t just leave him behind. He found a shady spot to wait, sitting on his suitcase, while Jiang Yucheng dealt with the fans.

Qin Qiaohan, assigned to follow him, sat on the ground nearby, watching Jiang Yucheng get mobbed by fans. She couldn’t help but remark, “As expected of Mr. Jiang, he has so many fans.”

Chi Jing pushed the sunglasses to the top of his head and remained silent.

Bored, Qin Qiaohan knew she wouldn’t get any useful footage at this moment, so she chatted with him.

“Sir.”

“Just call me by my name.”

“Okay, Chi Jing.” Just out of university, she also found the industry’s habit of calling everyone “sir” strange.

So she quickly agreed to his request to be called by name.

“Are the online rumors about you false?”

Chi Jing, lounging on his suitcase, replied casually, “Depends on which ones you’re talking about.”

“Uh, the ones with Wen Yubai.”

“The real and fake heir stuff is true, but the stealing and pushing are false.”

Qin Qiaohan glanced at the camera pointing at him.

“Do you miss your adoptive parents?”

“Miss them?” He sneered.

“I’m just glad I’m not their biological child.”

Qin Qiaohan gasped, thinking he had a lot more juicy details to reveal.

And she instinctively believed him, perhaps due to her intuition.

Her questions were becoming too personal, so she decided to change the topic.

“By the way, why hasn’t your agent found you an assistant?”

He answered matter-of-factly, “The company is broke.”

Qin Qiaohan: “Huh?”

Chi Jing: “Longhuang Entertainment’s only van is used by the boss. They can’t even afford a car, let alone an assistant.”

Mu Jingshan usually used his loaned car to pick up and drop him off.

Qin Qiaohan: …

She didn’t expect such poverty in the entertainment industry.

Chi Jing didn’t have to wait long. Jiang Yucheng, now free from his fans, walked over pushing his suitcase.

Seeing Chi Jing waiting, he lifted a cup of milk tea and smiled. “Here, Shanwang just bought this for you.”

The milk tea was level with his eyes, and he saw the label, classic pearl milk tea, full sugar with ice.
