"Ugh..."
What time is it?
As the dizziness unique to VR sleep quickly subsided, the floating letters around me came into focus. It was approaching 10 PM in the real world. I had only intended to rest for a moment, but I ended up sleeping for quite a while.
I was overcome with a drowsiness that blurred the line between dreams and reality, but I managed to pull off the choker-like blocker around my neck and exit the VR. The threefold time acceleration could seriously mess with my sense of sleep.
Cold water helped to wash away the drowsiness to some extent.
As my mind cleared, forgotten memories started to surface. Fortunately, there wasn't much I needed to do. After all, I hadn’t come home without finishing everything I needed to do.
The only regret was that after working my part-time job and having dinner, I had finally thought I could enjoy some personal time, but I ended up falling asleep.
And I missed Yujin’s live stream.
“I can’t believe I missed it.”
Regret bubbled up inside me.
Watching her streams was essential for me, especially since I was halfway into editing FanSpace as a hobby. I had to check not only the interesting parts of the stream but also the chat window.
Watching the videos uploaded later felt less immersive, though, of course, being able to replay funny moments multiple times wasn't bad.
I did check the stream later, but unfortunately, it was already over. It seemed like she ended the stream earlier than usual. Judging by the VR time, the stream lasted less than eight hours, which means in real-time, she only streamed for about 2-3 hours before stopping.
I was a bit more awake now. If I tried to sleep again, I wouldn’t be tired by around 3 or 4 AM. My alarm was set for 8 AM, so staying awake would be more beneficial.
Instead of lying down, I sat in my chair. A hologram spread across the screen, displaying my customized UI on the desktop. The first thing I checked, unexpectedly, was the YourSpace notifications.
I checked to see if there were any parts of the edits I missed, any typos, and also to see the reactions from the viewers and answer questions….
All these actions were driven by pure fandom. It was rewarding. The only regret was wondering if Yujin mentioned YourSpace on her stream today.
Since it turned out this way, I decided to work on my resume.
Click.
The sound of keys pressing formed words, and those words turned into sentences, and sentences into paragraphs. I wasn’t quite at the point of submitting resumes to companies or corporations yet, so I was still a bit inexperienced.
Perhaps that’s why. I actually had more of a desire to work as an editor. The part-time job I was doing wasn’t that fun, and ever since Yujin started streaming to clear up the hacking accusations, and since she and Harmony started dominating Dark Zone together—my motivation in life had returned.
That’s why I moved faster than anyone else. When others were first getting curious about Yujin’s streams, I was already collecting her clips, and when other freelancers were wondering, “Why isn’t this person doing YourSpace?” I had already started FanSpace.
Even though it was driven by fandom, it would be depressing if it wasn’t reciprocated.
So far, I had been holding back from contacting her in case she officially recruited editors, but maybe it was because I had just woken up, or maybe the pent-up feelings were finding a way out.
With those thoughts, I completed a file containing my resume, cover letter, and portfolio within an hour.
After carefully storing it away, I navigated to Yujin’s channel profile. Her email, composed of a dozen or so English letters, stared back at me. Until now, I had tried my best not to think about it, but now it was time to give it a shot.
I highlighted it with the mouse. As it turned blue, I pressed Ctrl and C together to copy it. The next steps were simple. I opened another window, entered the message box, and sent it.
Or so I intended.
Until I saw a familiar name.
[Content: Nice to meet you. If you’ve been watching the stream, you might have been waiting for a response. I’m sorry if you’ve been waiting, but I couldn’t respond earlier because there were too many eyes on the stream, which could have caused misunderstandings.
After the stream ended, I checked all the videos uploaded to the YourSpace account. They were all entertaining. So, I wanted to ask if you would be interested in working as an actual editor, if your schedule permits.
I’ve received offers from many people who are already working as editors, but in my opinion, someone who enjoys watching my stream and does FanSpace would probably make more entertaining videos.
I’m sorry for the long message.
Please keep in mind that the YourSpace - Yujin account is not very active, so we would need to negotiate how many edited videos would be posted per month to calculate the exact salary.
I’m not very knowledgeable about this part, but I think starting with a basic salary of at least 200 would be fair. If I’m mistaken, please correct me.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me, although I might not be able to reply immediately due to the number of emails. Please respond whenever convenient for you XD
Thank you for always enjoying the stream!]
The first time, I doubted my eyes.
The second time, I jumped out of my chair.
“Aaaahhhh! It’s happening! It’s really happening—aaaahhh!”
Unfortunately,
The first thing I did as Yujin’s editor was break my chair.
"Becoming a FanSpace editor seems like a pretty good choice."
“Really?”
“Yeah, if the editor understands the stream deeply, the results tend to be better.”
Come to think of it, that made a lot of sense. An editor who understands the strengths and weaknesses of the streamer they’re editing, as well as their little quirks and major funny moments, would definitely receive good feedback from viewers.
There were countless emails from people wanting to become editors, but after reading them all, I realized—some were trying to take advantage of the fact that I was a relatively new streamer, and some were just not skilled enough.
But on the other hand, there were definitely some gems among them. The FanSpace editor I contacted first was practically a vetted candidate. The account itself was like a giant portfolio.
If I weren’t juggling the qualifying rank and temporary coaching duties, I might have contacted them sooner.
Harmony nodded and checked the time on the watch on her left wrist. It wasn’t an ordinary one; it was unmistakably a military watch.
In line with that, she was also decked out in various personal gear, and carrying two firearms. One was attached to her bag with the barrel pointing upwards, and the other was in her hand.
It’s been a while since I’ve done PVE. It’s not just my imagination; it’s actually been quite a while. No matter how long, it couldn’t have been more than a week, but the density of the schedule made it feel like it was longer.
The area around us was still snowing, just like last time.
The weather was gloomy, the dead city was desolate, and various objects were scattered everywhere. Abandoned cars, overturned trash cans, and trash. The thick snow, which hadn’t been walked on, covered the corpses between them.
It was a rather bitter sight for me. Just a few years ago, I had wandered through such areas in reality, not just in a game. There wasn’t much difference between the scenes then and now.
Artemis Technology.
It was time to tackle the main missions I had been putting off.
As Harmony, who had been sitting in a chair that seemed untouched for years, stood up, I also got to my feet. In front of us were buildings adjacent to a large, long lake.
If I looked a bit further ahead, I could see the floating text marking the start of the mission.
The goal of this mission was simple: destroy the Artemis PMC forces testing amphibious drones and assault boats in the nearby lake and stop them from selling their technology to foreign countries.
As I recall, this mission was a failure. Icarus had experienced it once. Because of this failure, hostile nations were able to invade the US mainland.
Of course, it wasn’t my failure. At that time, there were over a dozen task forces in operation. I was part of Task Force Dagger, and the one that screwed up that operation was Task Force Elysium.
In any case.
“Do you remember what I told you about Artemis last time?”
“Uh, not at all.”
“I wasn’t really expecting you to.”
“Hmmph…”
I heard a small grumble, but what could I do? It wasn’t the kind of information you needed to memorize.
Harmony did a brief stretch and turned on the stream. I did the same. The start time of the stream was always the same, but today’s beginning was a bit different. It was only natural that viewers were surprised to see Dark Zone up and running as soon as they joined.
The stream title was [A Whole Day of Main Missions with the Teacher].
"Oh, what’s this?"
"Haha, Yuhah!!"
"Another sweet Dark Zone collab today, lol."
"It’s a water mission, a water mission!!!"
"What? Is she going to show us the Anaconda swimming technique?????"
“Ah, hello, everyone! As the title says, today we’re going to tackle a bunch of the missions that we’ve been putting off. We’ll probably get through at least ten of them, right?”
“It’s been a while since I’ve seen you all. Nice to see you.”
<StartRichMan donated 1,000 KRW.>
“Thank you, StartRichMan, for the 1,000 KRW donation. The reason is… well, I saw that one of the requirements for advancing to the finals is 100% main mission completion. I didn’t want to be held back, so I decided to do them all at once.”
“What? You didn’t tell me that, Teacher!”
“If I had said it directly, it would have sounded like I was bragging.”
(Confident)
"What is this? Is she planning to crush the KSM and Asian qualifiers?"
"She’s already looking at the finals even though she just started the qualifiers, lol."
"That boundless confidence… so intimidating!"
"Forget that, just show us the Anaconda swimming technique, Yujin."
Hmm.
Maybe I should’ve just said I wanted to do the missions for no particular reason. I asked not to make that part into a clip, but who knows if it’ll be honored.
I should just focus on taking down the enemies.
After a final check of my weapons and gear before the mission, I took the first steps with Harmony.
[ISO: It’s time for Artemis’s antics to be revealed. You should have a rough idea by now, so I won’t go into further explanation.]
[ISO: I’ll send you the coordinates. There, you can receive updates on the enemy’s status via satellite images, as well as underwater infiltration equipment and other items.]
[ISO: The weather isn’t good. To avoid freezing to death from hypothermia on the lake bottom, you should maximize the heating function.]
“Oh, Yujin, it’s going to be really cold!”
“…Why do you always look at me whenever the cold is mentioned?”
“Hehe.”
Fat-conda!
Customized wetsuit for Yujin’s underwater infiltration (made by Michelin).
I don’t care, show me the chubby fat-conda suit, ahhh!!!!
Tight skinny suit Yujin vs. chubby fat-conda Yujin.
Of course, it’s the fat-conda, lololololol.
…
Maybe I shouldn’t have done survival mode back then.
