125.1. Work Being Noble Isn’t Above All, Isn’t It?
After lunch, everyone heads home.
When Myrna leaves the school building with Persia, the Kendall siblings, who had gathered, wave their hands vigorously.
“See you tomorrow, Myrna-san!”
“Goodbye, Myrna-chan!”
“Take care on your way home, Myrna!”
“Myrna-tan, see you again!”
She waves back energetically to Saika, Kai, Ed, and Wamika.
It makes one wonder if maybe the curse still affects Myrna, preventing her from behaving cheerfully.
If this is her true personality, then Bella, Zaid’s mother, is truly unforgivable.
Should I just march into the Empire?
“Craft, you’ve got a wicked look on your face.”
“Oops, it’s nothing.”
There’s no point in thinking about things I can’t do.
Right now, my job is to help Kyle and Myrna with everything I’ve got.
As I clenched my fist in determination, the Kendall siblings were still on the school grounds.
Since the schoolyard and library, and some other facilities are open to both students and residents, they might be planning to play a bit longer.
“Ed, aren’t you going home?”
“Oh, Craft-nii. No, I’m waiting for the little ones.”
Classes are over, so there’s no need for formalities. I listen as he continues talking.
“The lower class… oh, they’re here! Hey!”
As Ed calls out, about ten kids come running over.
I don’t remember their names, but they should be from the 6-8 year-old and 9-11 year-old classes.
“They’re the new kids from the orphanage, and Azu-nee asked me to look after them.”
“I see.”
“We’re going home together, then it’s work. But you see…”
“What’s wrong? Is there a problem?”
As Ed groans in thought, Saika adds more detail.
“Actually, there isn’t much work to assign to everyone.”
I see. The current orphanage receives significant funds from the territory, so money shouldn’t be a problem.
But saying they should just play around is something only someone unfamiliar with orphans would say.
If they don’t learn to work while they’re in the orphanage, they won’t be able to find a job when they leave as adults.
The best scenario is if they could help with an apprenticeship somewhere, as they’d have a high chance of getting hired afterward.
“What should we have them do today?”
“The wine preparation… that’s already done, right?”
“The farmland is too far.”
“What about nursing the injured?”
“That’s still too difficult for them.”
As the four pondered, Jabil-sensei stroked her chin.
Hmm. It doesn’t suit him.
“Then, how about having them help the Production Guild?”
“Huh?”
“Since they drink stamina potions regularly, they could handle tasks like carrying loads or delivering messages.”
“That’s it!”
I couldn’t help but clap my hands.
“Hey, everyone. Want to try helping out at the Production Guild? They’re short-staffed right now, so they’d welcome the help.”
“Really, Nii-chan?”
“Of course.”
The kids cheer joyfully.
They know this could be a chance to become apprentices at the Production Guild in the future.
There’s also an advantage for the guild in educating them early.
“But, can the little ones handle the work? They’re not that familiar with the town yet.”
“Hmm. Then, why don’t the four of you each become a leader and form four groups?”
“I see! The teacher may be small, but she’s brilliant!”
“Hey!”
Watching Ed get scolded by Saika, the orphans burst into laughter.
Yep, this is indeed a win-win situation.
We immediately headed to the Production Guild to consult with the Guild Master, Leafan.
“Huh? You want to make orphans work?”
At first, he was surprised, but after I explained the situation at the orphanage, he seemed to understand as it was something not widely known.
“I see. I thought it was wrong to make orphans work, but it’s the opposite, huh?”
“Yeah. If they don’t learn a skill while at the orphanage, they’ll have nowhere to go after they become adults.”
“Got it! If that’s the case, I’ll be happy to let them help!”
“Yay!”
The children shouted in delight.
“Leafan, once these kids grow up, will the Production Guild take them in?”
“Of course! But…”
Leafan turned her gaze towards the orphans.
“Only if they work hard, though.”
“””Yes, sir!”””
And so, the orphans began helping at the Production Guild, which slightly eased the guild’s workload.
