I Became the Narrow-Eyed Character in the Little …
Chapter 0 Table of contents

The world is filled with countless subcultures.

No matter how much reason we possess, humans are ultimately pleasure-seeking creatures.

As the times evolve, so does the entertainment culture.

People search for fun.

They enjoy themselves in ways that suit their preferences, filling the void in their mundane lives.

I was no different.

“Stay calm… Don’t get excited…”

There were many forms of entertainment—anime, genre novels, comics—but what I chose was ‘games.’

There wasn’t a special reason for it.

I simply liked the fact that I could take the lead in the story.

“Now, parry once here, switch characters… and cast the binding curse.”

An action RPG game infamous for its brutal difficulty.

*The World Through the Little Prince’s Eyes.*

Despite its hopeful title, it was a crazy game where every route led to a bad ending.

So far, a total of 45 endings had been discovered.

And out of those 45, the ratio of bad endings was 100%—meaning all 45 of them.

A truly perverse concept for a game.

Despite the numerous branching paths and outcomes, not a single one of them led to a happy ending.

“No matter how you think about it, those developers were mad.”

It was as if they had all been collectively shot in the head.

They were impossible to understand.

Muttering a few curses toward the dev team, I refocused on the monitor.

On the screen stood a blonde boy.

Half-closed eyelids, a mischievous grin, and a tongue flickering as if in jest.

In the gaming community, he was commonly known as the "narrow-eyed character."

“…Finally, we meet again.”

Breathing deeply to calm my nerves, I glared at the screen.

This character was the final boss in every route, the mastermind pulling the strings from behind the scenes. He was also the betrayer who backstabbed the protagonist’s group in every single story.

With a sinister smile, he opened his mouth.

[You’ve made it this far, I see.]
[Your courage is commendable, but unfortunately, we’re out of time.]
[The resurrection of my master is at hand.]

The dialogue box quickly disappeared.

The surroundings, once dark, grew brighter as the real battle began.

Pitch-black shadows erupted from every direction as the boss approached, and I gripped the mouse tightly.

“Alright… let’s do this.”

In theory, this boss was impossible to beat.

This was my 1,942nd playthrough, and even in all those attempts, killing him had always been out of reach.

[It’s time for you to die.]
[My dear traveler. My foolish companion.]

But I didn’t give up.

Because I desperately wanted to see this world meet a happy ending.

Driven by that one desire, my fingers moved.

With a click, the screen recording started.

“Recording started. 1943rd try.”

I muttered calmly, lips barely moving.

All for the sole purpose of discovering the hidden 46th ending. I wanted a happy conclusion.

“Come at me, you bastard.”

I glared at the narrow-eyed character on the screen.

This time, I was determined to kill him and create a new ending.

I shouldn’t have done it.

Turns out, life itself was much more spectacular than I had thought.

Yeah. You’re probably guessing it right.

“Watching endings... really wasn’t something I should have done.”

I got pulled into the game.

Fuck.
