“Hyah haah-!”
“Destroy everything!”

People who had heard the news of the world ending acted as if they had completely forgotten about laws, morals, and ethics. They smashed cities, unleashed long-suppressed desires, and moved as if they were already living in a post-apocalyptic world.

They let their abilities run wild, acted like villains, and instead of reporting villains, they either helped them or tried to beat them to death themselves—a lawless era.

This chaos did not spare E City, tightly gripped by Evilus Corporation and its sinister organizations.

“Evilus Corporation, my ass! Those damn dictator bastards swinging their private army around—urk!?”
“Loud in front of someone’s home, aren’t we?”

As rioters rampaged through the city, Galm appeared, yawning widely and taking down the rioters in a single strike. An S-Class villain, and an executive of an evil organization, there wasn’t a single ordinary person who could withstand a punch from Galm.

Watching their companions collapse with a single hit, the rioters swallowed hard. They might have joined the riot on impulse, but they were just ordinary people in the end.

The consensus was clear: untrained and unprepared civilians could not hope to beat heroes who had undergone rigorous training or villains with years of experience.

But this was a lawless era.
People on the brink of the apocalypse resisted fiercely, as if they had nothing to lose.

“You! How can you act like this!? Weren’t you the one who said you’d serve this city…?”
“Huh? Who are you?”
“Wh-who I am isn’t important—”
“Ah, forget it. I can figure it out without you saying a word.”

Galm said this as he pulled a smartphone out of his pocket. In his massive hands, the tiny device looked like a toy being held by an adult.

With his long claws, he carefully tapped on the small buttons, and soon enough, he had obtained the rioter’s personal information.

“Emma Hines… You’re from B City? What the hell is a punk like you doing here?”
“Wh-what—I-I’m not Emma!”
“Such a long tongue. Fine, no need for a long conversation with villains like you. I’ll say just one thing.”

Crack.
Galm flexed his fingers, producing an intimidating sound, then glared at the villains in front of him and uttered a single sentence.

“This is a land ruled by an evil organization. Piss off, you insignificant brats.”

In the next moment, Galm’s fist incapacitated all the rioters. Snorting with disdain, Galm left the unconscious rioters behind without a second glance and moved to another area.

With the apocalypse looming, there were more villains to catch than he could handle. The entire city had to be scoured.

And so Galm did just that.

[So, uh… That’s how it is… We all need to be deployed…]
“You must be busy.”
[Y-yes, that’s right…]

Aile replied in a dejected tone. Understandable—after all, she had studied so hard for a year just to barely make it into college, only to suddenly hear that the world was ending.

If it were me, I’d despair too. If despair was all I felt, it would be better. I might even join the riots like everyone else.

The only reason I wasn’t doing that was because I had the power to resolve this situation. Even better, I had the power to erase everything that had happened.

“It’s almost resolved, so don’t worry. Soon, everything will return to normal.”
[Normal…?]
“Yes, normal.”

Honestly, it wasn’t a technique that should be used so recklessly. I smiled bitterly as I thought of the perception-altering technology the Fairy Queen had left behind—the worst kind of technology, capable of tampering with people’s minds and memories.

But what choice did I have? Considering the side effects that would arise if the world went from apocalypse to normalcy again, it was better for such events to have never happened in the first place. Even if federal investigators interrogated me later, this much would count as extenuating circumstances.

[Ah, I understand! Then, we’ll leave everything to you, Scientist! …G-good luck!]
“Thanks.”

Click.
Ending the call, I dove straight into my research. The re-ignition machine was now over 90% complete. All that was left was to wait for it to reach 100%.

It wouldn’t be long before I could resolve this situation perfectly. But, unfortunately, time was not on our side.

Ssss…

“…It’s spreading again.”
“Yes, and the range is expanding even faster. According to the simulation, at this rate, the entire planet will be covered within a week.”

A heat-death system where all motion ceased. The bif system was stealing the heat it lacked from this Earth.

To be honest, the proportion it took wasn’t very large. Probably less than 0.000…1%.

But if that percentage applied to the entire universe, the story changed. Compared to the vastness of the universe, which was almost infinite, a single planet was incredibly small. Even such a minuscule proportion was enough to halt an entire planet.

“So, at the latest, tomorrow. Ideally, we must succeed in the experiment by today…”
“Seems so.”
“Sigh… Really now.”

Sighing, I mentally calculated the possibility of the 90%-complete machine functioning. If I supplemented the missing parts with psychic abilities or other tools, somehow…

After roughly figuring out how to make the machine work, I nodded, thinking it seemed feasible.

“This is driving me crazy…”
“…Just don’t actually lose your mind.”
“Pardon? What’s that supposed to mean?”
“What do you mean? Look, you’re—”

Swallon, who had been speaking, suddenly closed his mouth and simply shook his head from side to side.

Not knowing why he reacted that way, I could only tilt my head in confusion.

But the time had come.
The time to reignite the bif system.

[System: All green. No issues detected.]
[Drive unit 18: Heat has been lost. Restarting… Success.]
[Machine thermal death confirmed. Estimated time: 36 seconds. System set to automatically reboot every interval.]

The massive machine, mounted on a rail system, moved forward. With every step, it approached the heat-death zone created by the bif system.

Upon reaching the bif zone, where all motion ceased, the machine and its rail system came to a halt. However, the AI systems mounted externally detected the stoppage instantly and resolved the issue.

One of the researchers, watching this unfold, let out a hollow laugh, sounding both impressed and resigned.

“Amazing… AI. It feels like there’s nothing left for us to do anymore, doesn’t it?”
“Dr. Eight told me something. He has no plans to advance that AI any further.”
“What? Isn’t that a bad idea? If another company develops an AI that surpasses the Evilus Agent—”
“Who?”

At those words, the researcher paused, then let out a sound of realization. Indeed, the Evilus Agent far exceeded the performance of any existing AI. And it was free.

Even if another company managed to develop an AI surpassing the Evilus Agent—could they actually attract users away from a freely distributed tool like Evilus Agent?

Moreover, what evidence was there that Evilus Corporation, which had created the Evilus Agent in the first place, didn’t already possess a superior AI? If they released an even better AI for free, any rival research would be rendered meaningless.

This was why no companies currently poured resources into AI research. Those who did so secretly were merely attempting to hack and jailbreak the Evilus Agent.

“Rather than worrying about that, focus on what’s in front of us. This is likely to be a historic day…”

Dr. Kuroi said this as he watched the ignition machine created by Eight enter the bif zone. The massive machine, larger than most buildings, moved with a majesty that was hard to describe.

It seemed almost alive… And as it moved forward, the machine entered the bif zone entirely.

At that moment—all motion ceased.

[Ignition device! Successfully inserted!]
[Activation countdown: 5 seconds! 4, 3, 2…]

The bif system swallowed the ignition device through its expanded gate. Once consumed, the ignition device stopped moving, succumbing to the bif system’s nature of halting all motion.

However, while internal motion ceased, external interference was still possible—and sufficient to activate the machine.

The Meister took care of that.

“Go on, Meister.”
“Yes, Professor.”

This was it. Once this was over, no more servitude!
With this thought, the Meister used his abilities to activate the ignition device within the bif system.

The moment he activated it, the energy connecting the bif system abruptly severed. The ignition device temporarily disrupted the connection between the bif system and the outside world.

What happened next—none of the researchers could see. However, one thing became abundantly clear.

Five minutes later, they were greeted by a vividly crimson universe.

“This is…”
“The Big Bang… The universe immediately after its creation…”

The scientists and researchers stood there, mouths agape, as they took in the sight.

For the first time in human history, they had become witnesses to the birth of the universe with their own eyes.

The shivers running down their spines and the cold sweat on their bodies made it impossible for them to do anything other than gape in awe.

After all experiments concluded successfully, Meister stormed into Eight’s lab, shouting.

“Professor! No—Professor bastard! I’m done! I’m free now!”
“Huh? What are you talking about?”
“Don’t tell me you’re going to claim it was all a lie now?”
“No, no, nothing like that. I said you’d graduate once you submitted your assignment.”
“Then—!”

As the Meister began to jump around in a near-hysterical manner, Eight casually extended his hand. Staring at the empty hand, the Meister gave Eight a confused look.

“Your assignment. Hand it over. Then you can graduate.”
“…No, the assignment was just now—”
“Yes, just now, it became cosmic dust.”

At those words, the Meister realized Eight had no intention of keeping his promise. Rage erupted from him.

“Ah, ahhh—aaaaargh! You! You planned this from the start, didn’t you?!”
“Who knows? But, by the way, I’m ‘Professor,’ not ‘you.’”

Eight’s eyes gleamed as he looked at the furious assistant—or rather, his slave.

Sure, if the Meister managed to recreate the ignition device he had just built, Eight would happily free him from servitude.

If he could rebuild it, that is.

Of course, such a thing was impossible, and that meant…

“Now, back to the lab we go, Assistant.”
“AAAAAARGH!”

The Meister’s escape from Eight’s servitude would never happen.
