The Country Life Diary of a Gangster's Secretary - c51

Hyeseong received a message from Team Leader Lee while he was thinking about how to broach the subject with the president of Seohyeon Corporation.

[Hyeseong, I obtained evidence of the embezzlement ledger from Myeongpum Capital.]

Hyeseong’s eyes widened upon seeing the text. Resisting the urge to call immediately, he slowly tapped on the screen.

[Is that true?]

[Yes.]

The photos sent right away contained what seemed to be pictures of the ledger that Pilhyun personally took. Along with the ledger, there was also a memo that appeared to be written by Pilhyun. The memo had “Myeongpum Capital” written on it, and it was photographed in a way that showed the relevant date and time.

Of course, physically taking out the actual ledger would have been the best method, but this was enough. Hyeseong quickly saved the photos, then replied to Team Leader Lee to delete them and leave the message room.

He replied that unless there were contents that particularly needed to be relayed further or urgently discussed, he didn’t need to do this kind of thing anymore in the future, and that he would contact him as things progressed.

After confirming that the ledger photos sent by Team Leader Lee were well saved, Hyeseong went to the message Deok-soo had sent earlier and pressed the number.

The ringtone continued for a while, and just when he thought they might not pick up, the other side answered the call.

“Hello.”

– ……

Despite Hyeseong’s casual greeting, the other person was quiet. Thinking the call might have been cut off, he looked at the screen again but it was still connected.

“Is this President Ahn Gi-baek of Seohyeon Corporation?”

– …Who is this?

A deep, subdued voice was heard. The tone was very wary of the other party. Well, it was understandable. Someone unknown had suddenly called the president’s number of a company. Moreover, Seohyeon had not yet significantly departed from its days as a gang organization. In other words, Hyeseong could be seen as suddenly contacting the head of a large gang.

“Hello, my name is Cheon Hyeseong. I’m sorry for the sudden call, but there’s something I’d like to report to you, so I contacted you despite knowing it would be rude.”

– How did you get my number?

“I’m sorry, but I used some connections. I thought you wouldn’t meet with just anyone if I didn’t do this.”

– Seems like you know well. Then let’s hang up.

Ahn Gi-baek tried to end the call without any hesitation, as if Hyeseong’s words were not even worth listening to anymore. Hyeseong quickly opened his mouth.

“It’s about Kim Doo-sung from Myeongpum Capital.”

– ……

Fortunately, thanks to his quick words, Ahn Gi-baek did not hang up. Could it be that he was also keeping an eye on Myeongpum Capital? Well, either way, it seemed Hyeseong had succeeded in convincing him that his words were worth listening to.

“To be exact, it’s about the corruption committed by Kim Doo-sung.”

– How do you know that bastard Doo-sung? Are you from the Yushin gang?

What the heck is the Yushin gang? As expected, it seemed Seohyeon was still heavily involved with gangsters.

“No. If I must say, I’m just an innocent citizen that Kim Doo-sung is trying to suck dry.”

A scoff burst out from the other end of the receiver at Hyeseong’s words. It sounded like he muttered “what a weirdo”.

– What do you want to say?

“I should give you a little hint to pique your interest, right? Haven’t you thought that the amount being paid by Myeongpum Capital these days is strange?”

Silence is affirmation. Ahn Gi-baek didn’t say anything for a while after hearing Hyeseong’s words. Although he maintained a calm voice, judging by his quietness, it was clear that he also felt there was a problem with that matter.

– Send me the time and place. Come and tell me in person.

“Yes. It would be best if it’s as soon as possible.”

– …Just so you know, be prepared to face the consequences if it’s a fruitless story.

Hyeseong firmly assured him not to worry about that. As soon as the roughly 5-minute call ended, a text immediately flew to Hyeseong’s number.

[Laird Hotel, tomorrow 1pm. Text when you arrive at the lobby.]

The text didn’t come from Ahn Gi-baek’s number. Seeing that it was a different number, it seemed to be from someone like his secretary.

By the way, meeting at a hotel. He thought he would just be called to the office. The Laird Hotel was in  Seoul. The thought of going to  Seoul again already made him feel annoyed. Anyhow, people with nothing special tend to make a fuss.

What’s the need to choose a secret location just to talk about a corruption ledger? Grumbling, Hyeseong reserved a train to go up tomorrow.

* * *

“Why is everyone getting married these days?”

Ihyeok fiddled with his tie, looking irritated. Recently, as if they had made a promise, everyone was sending wedding invitations, which was very bothersome. It was even more annoying because he had to show his face at these events due to his position.

The secretary Han could only smile awkwardly at Ihyeok’s grumbling. If it were Hyeseong, he would have calmly responded, “There are far more people who get married than those who don’t,” but Secretary Han had neither the eloquence nor the courage to do so.

“The wedding venue is the Laird Hotel.”

Ihyeok answered indifferently that he understood. The Laird Hotel was quite a large-scale place. The person getting married this time was the daughter of the former head of the Central District Prosecutor’s Office, so he thought they were holding the ceremony in a very luxurious place.

Not long after leaving the company, the car entered the hotel’s underground parking lot. Getting out of the car, Ihyeok immediately headed to the 3rd floor where the ceremony was being held.

As soon as he entered the wedding hall lobby, countless gazes naturally focused on Ihyeok. The many eyes turning to the dominant alpha was a kind of instinct.

Those who were staring at him as if enchanted naturally came to his side to exchange greetings. Ihyeok greeted people with a light smile, as if he hadn’t been grumbling about how bothersome it was in the car.

The loud music, the crowd of people, and the faint pheromones rising from here and there. Everything was grating on his nerves.

As the ceremony was about to begin soon, Ihyeok took his seat. The lights dimmed and the emcee soon opened the ceremony.

Ihyeok unconsciously looked at the seat in front of him. That empty spot was always Hyeseong’s seat. But now there was no one. In the large hall, Ihyeok felt as if he was sitting alone. Even amidst the numerous guests applauding and cheering, Ihyeok was lost in thought.

“Even if you do this, I won’t return to Taesung.”

Those words suddenly came to mind. Why on earth was Hyeseong trying to leave his side? Whether it was because of a hidden lover or for some other reason, Ihyeok couldn’t understand at all why he was trying to leave him.

Seeing Hyeseong, who said Ihyeok made him uncomfortable, he had briefly thought about maybe stopping his pursuit. He had thought that if Hyeseong had someone he loved or really wanted to cut ties with him for another reason, shouldn’t he agree if that’s what the boy wanted?

But now he knew. That was a crazy thought. How could he have thought of letting Hyeseong go, of going back to being strangers for life?

Ihyeok stood up from his seat. He could see people glancing at him from the corner of his eye, but Ihyeok left the hall without caring.

“Secretary Han, it’s me. Have the car standby in front of the hotel immediately.”

He was going to see Hyeseong. He would meet him and talk it out, come what may. With that in mind, Ihyeok headed to the 1st floor lobby. And that’s when it happened. An unbelievable sight unfolded before Ihyeok’s eyes as he tried to go outside.

“…Cheon Hyeseong?”

Wasn’t that Hyeseong, neatly dressed, boldly entering the hotel? When he used to work as Taesung’s secretary, he often came to places like this with Ihyeok. But the current Hyeseong was neither his secretary nor anything else. The guy who retired to the countryside to live leisurely, suddenly alone at a hotel.

Hyeseong didn’t seem to see Ihyeok and stood in the lobby for a moment, taking out his cell phone. And after about 3 minutes, Hyeseong moved. He was seen heading towards the elevator.

Ihyeok reflexively followed him. Hiding his body as much as possible, he checked the floor number of the elevator Hyeseong took, then immediately got on the elevator next to it.

Hyeseong’s destination was the 7th floor. Where the guest rooms were.

“……”

Ihyeok’s hand clenched involuntarily.

Thinking it couldn’t be, it won’t be, he got off the elevator.

Fortunately, as soon as he got off, he saw Hyeseong turning the corner. Ihyeok secretly approached, muffling his footsteps. Hiding at the corner of the corridor and looking at Hyeseong, he suddenly stopped in front of a room and pressed the bell. His heart pounded.

A few seconds later, the door opened. He tried to see who it was, but they were hidden by the door.

However, one thing Ihyeok’s eyes clearly captured was a hand gesturing for Hyeseong to come in. A clearly male hand.

For a moment, Ihyeok felt like something was breaking.

Like that, Hyeseong disappeared inside without hesitation. The door slammed shut and Ihyeok walked towards the hotel room.

Room 711

In front of the door Hyeseong entered, Ihyeok frowned.

“Damn it.”

Biting his lip, he clenched his fist tightly. In his pocket, the call from Secretary Han kept ringing, but right now, none of that registered to Ihyeok.
